Scuffles broke out between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli security forces at al-Aqsa mosque in East Jerusalem on Sunday following reports of a Jewish tour of the holy site during Ramadan.
Footage shows the worshippers fleeing after Israeli forces entered the compound as part of the tour.
Tear gas canisters and stun grenades were detonated during a flurry of chaos after dozens of Jewish visitors were escorted onto the grounds by security forces.
According to reports, Sunday’s scuffles came amid calls by Jewish groups to converge on the site to mark Jerusalem Day, a national holiday where Israelis celebrate the anniversary of their occupation of East Jerusalem at the end of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
Security measures have been tightened and police are on high alert as thousands of Israelis are expected to march through Jerusalem, including the Muslim quarter of the Old City, to mark the anniversary.

Jerusalem: Dividing al-Aqsa | Al Jazeera World
The al-Aqsa Mosque compound is in the Old City of Jerusalem, surrounded by a stone wall on all four sides.
It is recognisable by the famous golden roof of the Dome of the Rock at its centre. The compound also contains the grey-domed al-Qabali Mosque which is also widely known as the al-Aqsa Mosque. The whole compound is considered the third holiest site in Islam and is referred to by the Israelis as Temple Mount.
After World War I, Palestine was placed under interim British rule. Under the promises made in the Balfour Declaration, Britain was already committed to facilitate the founding of a homeland for the Jewish people in Palestine and began granting land to the Zionist movement to build settlements.
In 1929, Palestinians demonstrated against these settlements at the al-Buraq Wall on the western side of the compound - now known as the Western Wall.
Palestinians had begun to realise what increased Zionist influence in the region would mean, and their protests led to the al-Buraq Revolution of 1929: The first real revolution on Palestinian land, according to the Palestinian researcher Ziad al-Hassan.
The site has been a centre of tension and attacks ever since. In 1969, an Australian evangelical Christian, Dennis Rohan, set fire to the al-Qabali Mosque. Many of the mosque's most important features, including a pulpit dating back to the 12th century, were destroyed. Rohan was tried for arson but was found to be clinically insane.
On Black Monday, October 8, 1990, 20 Palestinians were killed, according to UN figures, in what's known as the al-Aqsa Massacre.
Sixty-three people died in the Kotel Tunnel incident in September 1996, in protests over the opening of a new tunnel by the Israelis under the Western Wall.
The second Intifada in 2000, started at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
More recently, confrontations between Palestinians and Israeli forces in the compound, sparked in part by incursions by Israeli organisations, have led to wider clashes and an escalation in violence in both Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.
This film traces the history of the al-Aqsa Mosque compound and its significance to both Muslims and Jews.
It looks at the division of Jerusalem after the founding of Israel in 1948; and the aftermath of the 1967 Six Day War when Israel occupied East Jerusalem and the whole of the West Bank.
It examines the treatment of Palestinians at the mosque compound and proposals by Israeli politicians to divide the site, despite the fact that the Israeli government repeatedly insists it does not want fundamental changes there.
The government is also now accused of funding groups which support major changes as to who can pray at the site. This has provoked more tension with security forces sometimes violently cracking down on Palestinian protesters and worshippers.
The film also looks at the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron - where Israel controls Palestinian access and has imposed access and prayer restrictions - and asks whether this is the shape of things to come at al-Aqsa.

East Jerusalem: Worshippers protest Israeli security measures as Al-Aqsa Mosque reopens
Dozens of Palestinian worshippers gathered for prayers outside Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem, Sunday, to protest new security measures introduced by Israeli authorities, including metal detector and surveillance cameras.
SOT, resident of Jerusalem (Arabic): We would all sacrifice our lives for Al-Aqsa, it shall not be shut down, god willing, it will be open until the end of days. We have more right than the Jews to be in there.
SOT, resident of Jerusalem (Arabic): Our mobilisation here, which should be greater in numbers, is to send a message to the occupation that we will never give up, despite the restrictions, the barricades and hurdles that the occupation forces impose on Al-Aqsa mosque. We have to work on besieging Al-Aqsa and besieging whoever besieges Al-Aqsa.
SOT, Sheikh Wasif al-Bakri, acting judge in Jerusalem (Arabic): We demand the Israeli authorities to lift these metal detectors; we have the right to enter without inspection. We are coming in to pray.

Clashes between Israeli police & Palestinian protesters as Jews allowed entry to Al-Aqsa
Clashes erupted between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli forces at East Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa Mosque compound on Sunday during a settler tour at the flashpoint site, according to Palestinian officials.
Some 1,179 Jewish extremists stormed the compound since morning, Omar Kiswani, director of Al Aqsa Mosque, told Anadolu Agency.
In a massive violation of the holy month of Ramadan, the settlers broke into the compound through Al Mugharbah gate under the protection of Israeli police, he said.
Hundreds of worshippers chanted Allahu Akbar (God is the Greatest) in an expression of anger as settlers were allowed into the compound, the Jerusalem Waqf (religious endowments) Agency said in a statement.

Israeli forces and settlers enter Al-Aqsa Mosque compound
Hundreds of Jews enter the holy site on Israel's Jerusalem Day as Israeli police allow access during the end of Ramadan.
Israeli forces have entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound along with hundreds of Jews whom they allowed to access the compound on Jerusalem Day - when Israelis celebrate the anniversary of their occupation of East Jerusalem at the end of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
Israeli forces fired tear gas and detained a number of Palestinians on Sunday who were attending prayers after protests erupted in the mosque compound following an announcement that Jews would enter the holy site.
It was the first time in about 30 years that Jews were allowed into the site during the final days of the fasting month of Ramadan, which coincided this year with the Israeli national holiday commemorating control over the city.
Earlier in the morning, Israeli police had deployed hundreds of their forces around the mosque compound and across the city as hundreds of Jews waited at the compound gates to enter.
Israeli police decision
Reporting from West Jerusalem, Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett said: What had been announced was that Jews would not be allowed into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound because of the sensitivity coming up to the end of Ramadan.
But what actually took place was that hundreds of what we would expect to be right-wing settler and religious nationalists assembled at the gate demanding entrance.
Once the police had apparently decided they would be allowed in, protests by Palestinians started and forces moved in to put down the demonstrations. At that point, the Jewish settlers were allowed to come in, said Fawcett.
Video inside the compound showed Palestinians shouting Allahu Akbar (God is great) and throwing chairs and other objects at a doorway before tear gas and stun bombs were thrown at them.
Thousands of Jews have also flocked to the nearby Western Wall to mark the occasion ahead of celebrations and marches that will be held around the city in the afternoon and in the evening.
The annual march through the city, including the Muslim quarter of the Old City forcing Palestinians to shutter their businesses, often sparks clashes.
Security measures have been tightened and police are on high alert after a Palestinian teenager was shot dead by Israeli forces as he tried to enter occupied East Jerusalem to offer Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
In a separate incident on Friday, a Palestinian man was shot dead by Israeli police after an alleged stabbing attack on two Israelis in the Old City of East Jerusalem.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, referred to as the Temple Mount by Jews, is the third-holiest site for Muslims.
The area has always been closed to Jews during the last 10 days of Ramadan, when large numbers of Muslim worshippers stay at the site.
The police really aren't giving any explanation as to why they made this decision, Al Jazeera's Fawcett said.
The police spokesman is merely saying that access to non-Muslims was allowed today as it is on any normal day but didn't acknowledge the Israeli holiday or that it was the end of Ramadan.
The last time when Jerusalem Day coincided with the end of Ramadan in 1988, the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound was closed to Jews.

Israeli forces reportedly sealed off all entrances to Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Old City in East Jerusalem on Tuesday, amid increasing tensions with Palestinian worshippers.
Footage shows Israeli security scuffling with Palestinian worshippers, and emergency services carrying the injured away.
According to local Palestinian sources, dozens of heavily armed soldiers stormed the occupied religious complex and assaulted the worshippers, both men and women, with at least five of them being arrested and taken into custody.
Israeli authorities claimed that Molotov cocktails were earlier launched towards a police post inside the complex causing a fire to breakout, but did not provide any comment on the incidents which followed.
