Oldest Mosque In The UAE Al Badiyah Mosque
Oldest Mosque In The UAE Al Badiyah Mosque
Oldest Mosque/Masjid in The UAE Al Badiyah Mosque
Al Badiyah Mosque is the oldest mosque in the UAE. It is located in Fujarah which is one of the 7 emirates.
The exact date of the construction of this mosque is unclear because this mosque is made from mud and stone. There is no wood, so they can’t test it by radiocarbon dating.
Through research it was believed that this mosque was built in 1446 AD.
The structure is small only 53 Square meters which is only 570 ft and was built from local materials found in that area.
The mosque still hosts daily prayers and is a tourist attraction.
Definitely worth checking out if you go to Dubai or the UAE!

500 Year Old Al Bidya Mosque ( مسجد البدية,) In Fujairah UAE. (500 Saal Purani Masjid)
The Al Badiyah Mosque (Arabic: مسجد البدية, sometimes transliterated Al Bidyah or Al Bidya) is the oldest extant mosque in the United Arab Emirates or Fujairah.[1] It is located in a small village in emirate Fujairah about 50 km north from region center.[2] It is also known as Ottoman Mosque
History
The mosque's date of construction is uncertain[3] and because the mud and stone built structure uses no wood, radiocarbon dating is not possible. It is estimated to date to the 15th century,[5] however some much earlier estimates have been proposed.[2] The site was investigated by the archaeological center of Fujairah in co-operation with the University of Sydney from 1997-98.[2] and Fujairah Archaeology and Heritage Department came up with the conclusion that the mosque was believed to be built in 1446 AD, along with the two watch towers overlooking the mosque and the village.[3]
Structure
The small, square structure has an area of 53 square metres (570 sq ft) and was built from materials available in the area, primarily stones of various sizes and mud bricks coated in many layers of whitewashed plaster. The roof has four squat, helical domes that are supported by only one centrally placed pillar that also forms the ceiling. Entrance to the mosque is through double-winged wooden doors.[2]
The prayer hall has a small mihrab (the niche in the wall that indicates the direction of Mecca), a simple pulpit, arches and openings. A central pillar divides the internal space into four squares of similar dimensions. The pillar supports all four domes that can be seen from the exterior.[4]
Inside the prayer hall, a number of small decorative windows allow light and air to enter the mosque. There are also cube-shaped spaces carved into the thick walls where copies of the Quran and other books are stored.[6]
The mosque continues to host daily prayers and is a tourist attraction.[2]

United Arab Emirates Fujairah
Fujairah, dominated by the Sharqiyin tribe, sits at the mouth of the important trade route, the Wadi Ham (which is guarded by the Sharqiyin fort at Bithnah), through the mountains to the interior and the Persian Gulf Coast. Known as the Shamaliyah, the east coast of what is now the UAE was subject to Muscat until 1850, when it was annexed by the Al Qasimi of Sharjah in an agreement made between Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi and the Sultan of Muscat
The Shamaliyah was governed by the Al Qasimi Wali at Kalba although frequently seceded and in 1901 Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Sharqi, chief of the Sharqiyin, declared independence from Sharjah. This was recognised by a number of the Trucial Sheikhs and also by Muscat, but not the British, who were frequently provoked by the independently minded ruler.[3]
At this time, Fujairah consisted of some 150 houses and 3,000 date palms and its people lived mainly through pearling and date cultivation.
Since the absorption of Kalba by Sharjah in 1952, the Shamaliyah is shared by the emirates of Fujairah and Sharjah.[5]
In 1952, Fujairah entered into treaty relations with Britain, becoming the last of the emirates to join the Trucial States. Having withheld this recognition for over fifty years, the British government only granted it because the oil exploration company Petroleum Concessions Limited (PCL) needed to sign a concession with a recognised ruler.[6] On 2 December 1971, Fujairah joined the United Arab Emirates.
Archaeological finds in the emirate of Fujairah point to a history of human occupation and trading links stretching back at least 4,000 years, with Wadi Suq (2,000 to 1,300 BCE) burials located at Bithnah and the Qidfa Oasis.[7] A third millennium BCE tower was used to construct the Portuguese fort at Bidiyah, identified with the Portuguese 'Libedia', a fortress recorded in de Resende's 1646 map - the fortress itself has been carbon dated to 1450-1670.[8]
Fujairah is also rich in late Islamic fortresses, as well as being home to the oldest mosque in the United Arab Emirate, the Al Badiyah Mosque, which was built in 1446 of mud and bricks.[9] It is similar to other mosques found in Yemen, eastern Oman, and Qatar. Al Bidyah Mosque has four domes (unlike the other similar mosques which have between seven and twelve) and lacks a minaret.

Fujairah
Fujairah is an emirate on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates, lying along the Gulf of Oman. It's known for its beaches and the Hajar Mountains, which run through much of the emirate. In the south, the city of Fujairah is home to the massive Sheikh Zayed Mosque, with its towering white minarets. Overlooking the city is Fujairah Fort, a reconstructed 17th-century fortress featuring round and square towers.

Fujairah (Arabic: الفجيرة Al Fuǧaira IPA: [al fuʤajra]) is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, and the only one of the seven that has a coastline solely on the Gulf of Oman and none on the Persian Gulf.
Fujairah, dominated by the Sharqiyin tribe, sits at the mouth of the important trade route, the Wadi Ham (which is guarded by the Sharqiyin fort at Bithnah), through the mountains to the interior and the Persian Gulf Coast. Known as the Shamaliyah, the east coast of what is now the UAE was subject to Muscat until 1850, when it was annexed by the Al Qasimi of Sharjah.

In 1952, Fujairah entered into treaty relations with Britain, becoming the last of the emirates to join the Trucial States.[2] On 2 December 1971, Fujairah joined the United Arab Emirates
Fujairah is home to the oldest mosque in the United Arab Emirates which was built in 1446 of mud and bricks.[3] It is similar to other mosques found in Yemen, eastern Oman, and Qatar. Al Bidyah Mosque has four domes (unlike the other similar mosques which have between seven and twelve) and lacks a minaret.
The emirate of Fujairah covers approximately 1,166 km2, or about 1.5% of the area of the UAE, and is the fifth-largest emirate in the UAE. Its population is around 152,000 inhabitants (in 2009); only the Emirate of Umm al-Quwain has fewer occupants.
Fujairah is the only emirate of the UAE that is almost completely mountainous. All the other emirates, such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi are located on the west coast, and are largely covered by deserts. Consequently, Fujairah boasts a higher than average yearly rainfall of the UAE, allowing farmers in the region to produce one crop every year. The emirate has a cove, Ad Dayt.[4]
The weather is seasonal, although it is warm most of the year. The months of December to March are generally the coolest, with daytime temperatures averaging around 25 °C (77 °F) and rarely venturing above 30 °C (86 °F)—with temperatures climbing to over 40 °C (104 °F) degrees in the summer. The winter period also coincides with the rainy season and although by no means guaranteed, this is when Fujairah experiences the bulk of its precipitation. Rainfall is higher than the rest of the UAE, partly because of the effect of the mountains that encircle the Emirate, and partly because the prevailing winds are easterly bringing with them water-laden clouds off the warm Indian Ocean.
The variability of the east coast climate is partly due to the presence of the Hajjar mountain range. As with other mountainous areas, precipitation is higher, and this allows for a more varied micro-environment in the area. Tourist visitor numbers peak just before the school summer months.
