How Alamo Drafthouse is redefining the cinema experience
If you don't already know about the Alamo Drafthouse cinema chain, it could change your view of going to the movies. Alamo Drafthouse is the brainchild of Tim League, a hardcore film buff since high school. It started small almost 20 years ago in Austin, Texas, but has grown into a high-concept theater chain with more than two dozen locations nationwide. Dana Jacobson reports from the newest site in Brooklyn, New York.

Angry Voicemail We Got From an Alamo Drafthouse Customer
We do not tolerate people that talk or text in the theater. In fact, before every film we have several warnings on screen to prevent such happenings. Occasionally, someone doesn't follow the rules, and we do, in fact, kick their asses out of our theater.
This video is an actual voicemail from a woman that was kicked out of one of our Austin theaters. Thanks, anonymous woman, for being awesome – from all of us here at your favorite theater in the Magnited States of America.

FIRST LOOK at Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco! Star Wars Premiere Info & More!
bayareahq.com - WATCH: Alamo Drafthouse Star Wars SF Premiere & Menu - San Francisco, get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Alamo Drafthouse’s New Mission Theater. The cinema will open to the public on December 17th, launching with inarguably the most hotly-anticipated movie event of the 21st Century: STAR WARS: EPISODE VII: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Bay Area HQ's Ally Williams caught up with CEO/Founder Tim League & Creative Director Michael Keegan to get all the details on what this amazing venue will offer to not only visitors, but also to the community. Tim & Mike talk about what's unique at the San Francisco location and some interesting info on the Star Wars premiere. Check it out.
Alamo Drafthouse’s New Mission Theater is the company’s first foray into California and it marks a dramatic arrival for the brand. The theater’s meticulous $10 million restoration and retrofit has resulted in a movie mecca as original 1920’s decor fuses with state of the art technology. The New Mission is the first theater in North America equipped with Sony’s revolutionary 515DS dual-4K projectors.
I was seven when I first saw Star Wars Episode IV. Nearly 40 years later, I still remember exactly where I saw it and every detail of the experience. said Drafthouse CEO/Founder Tim League. I can think of no better way to launch our new flagship, the historic New Mission Theater, than with this hugely anticipated film.
Alamo Drafthouse’s restoration and retrofit of the 1920s movie palace in San Francisco’s Mission District features a total of five screens, ranging in size from boutique screens of just 34 to 320 seats in the grand hall, as well as a full-service bar and kitchen, in-theater dining and a strictly enforced (and widely lauded) no-talking/no-texting policy.
Drafthouse Toasts IPAs!
India Pale Ales, or IPAs, are the fastest growing beer style in America right now. With so many different variations being put together, it seems like there is a new one out almost every week. Craft beer drinkers just can’t seem to get enough hops!
IPAs are said to have been born when the English set up trading posts in India. When traveling with their standard Pale Ales, by the time they got to India the beer was old and gross. To remedy this, they upped the malt bill to increase the alcohol to help preserve it. When they did this they also had to balance the beer with loads more hops – and the India Pale Ale was born. There’s probably some truth in this story somewhere…
IPAs are known for being crazy hoppy and super bitter, but they didn’t start out that way. English versions had more of an earthy characteristic then the IPAs that you are probably used to drinking now in the U.S. This is due to the kind of hops that are used. English IPAs use hops with lower alpha acids that have a more mellow flavor and add a lot of aroma to the beer. IPAs in the States tend to be made with hop varietals that have a higher alpha acid content that make beers take on more citrusy notes, both in aroma and flavor. There are a ton of different hops out there and they all do something just a little different to the beer. Depending on when you add hops during the brewing process, you can affect either the aroma or bitterness of the brew. This makes it possible to have beers made with the exact same ingredients that can taste completely different, depending on if you add more hops in the beginning of the boil for aroma, or at the end of the boil for bitterness.
With so many different flavors available by just using hops, the possibilities are almost limitless once you start throwing in fruit, herbs or aging in barrels. It doesn’t seem like this style of beer is going away, and you could also say that we haven’t seen anything yet – there are definitely more surprises coming our way from the IPA family of beers.
