Alangudi - Lord Jupiter Temple
Welcome to the Alangudi Apathsahayeshwarar temple.
The presiding chief deities of this Alangudi temple are lord Apathsahayeshwarar and his consort Umayammai.
This power shrine is dedicated to Jupiter - the Guru. He is the ruler of your Benevolence, Knowledge, Wisdom, Brilliance, Intelligence and every other factor that is related to your thinking factor.
Lord Apathsahayeshwarar's power and grace of this temple is supported by a legend which dates back to the churning of the milky ocean. In the fierce battle between the Demon and the Gods, in order to extract the Amrith, the Devas and Asuras had to face the implicit effect of the poison that emerged from it. Unable to bag the poison's effects they made a request to Lord Shiva to rescue them. Lord Shiva in order to help the Devas and Asuras drank the poison and it was Shakti who arrested the poison from entering into Shiva's Body.
In the process, she had to seize the Shiva's neck and as a result the poison left an imprint of the color blue in Lord Shiva's neck and this is why he is called Thiruneelakantam.
He was the rescuer during the time of danger and still protects his devotees from danger and this is why he is called Apathsahayeshwarar at the Alangudi shrine.
Guru or Jupiter at Alangudi is in the form of Lord Dakshinamoorthy. He is held in great reverence and is engraved in the wall not in the form of a separate idol. He is seen re-united with lord Shiva himself.
It is believed that the great seers Aadisankaracharya and Agasthya had worshipped Lord Guru at this particular power shrine Alangudi. Also, the very trusted astrological signs behind Nadi recommends this power shrine to perform charactive rituals to lord Dakshinamoorthy.
One of the main remedial ritual is to light 24 clay lamps to the Guru here and one clay lamp to Lord Ganesha to get rid of the afflictions of the debilitated Guru in your Birth Chart.
As the saying goes, Mata, Pita, Guru and Daivam, the postures of the deities here are arranged in the same order.
One can first have the Darshan of Mata, mother in the form of Goddess Umayammai here. Pita, father in the form called Apathsahayeshwarar, Guru - Jupiter, in the form of Dakshinamoorthy and Daivam the god's lord Shiva and Parvathi again.
If your Birth Chart is positioned with a favorable Guru in the houses 2,5,7,9 and 11, he will shower your life with benevolence whereas when he is placed in the other houses, his influence can bother you. This is the right time you can opt to perform Homas and Poojas to appease him and win his blessings in your favor.
The Alangudi Guru temple celebrates the festival of Guru Peyarchi, the transit of Guru, in a very grand manner. other than this, other festivals dedicated to Lord Jupiter during every month. Karthigai Deepam, Ganesh chaturthi, Navratri etc are also held with great pomp and gaiety at this temple.
Guru, the Jupiter will bless you with power of knowledge, benevolence and intelligence. If you appease him you will stand matchless in the crowd.
Guru transits from houses in everyone's Birth Chart for favorable effects from this transiting period devotees gather at the Alangudi temple to dedicate their devotion.
Be one among the gifted in your life span!
The Alangudi Jupiter temple is located 35 kilometres away from Thiruvayyaru, a district near Tanjore in southern India. Visiting this temple and performing recommended rituals will shower your life with immense blessings for the best living ever.
