Port Alberni B.C Children's Hospital Festival of Trees
Port Alberni's 3rd Annual Festival Festival of Trees!
November 24th, 2011 - January 6th 2012
Here's an email I received with all the details!
Hello everyone and thank you all for such a fabulous kick off to the 2011 Festival of Trees!
A Few Highlights
- 19 beautiful trees were decorated on Wednesday November 23rd, and over 100 people were in attendance for the Decorating Reception.
- $8,500 was raised through tree sponsorships and donations, and over $2700 was raised that night through the silent auction, draws, treasure chest and your generous bribes.
- Hundreds of dollars in gift cards & certificates were collected through the bribing process which will be used to support our families at BC Children's Hospital.
- Baskets of books & toys were sent to the Port Alberni Women's Resource Society to help out their families, with some of them also heading to BC Children's Hospital as well.
- Our Reception was a big hit thanks to the generous support of The Best Western Barclay Hotel, Circle Dairy, Double R Meats, Quality Foods, Fairway Market & Buy Low Foods.
--- Van Isle Ford is our People's Choice Award Sponsor this year, thanks Will.
The prize is an Apple iPad 2. Everyone has a chance as this will be a random draw from the ballots that the public has voted with.
Each $2 donation to the Festival of Trees is 1 vote for your tree. Therefore, if someone votes for your tree with a $20 donation, you get 10 votes.
A Few Special Volunteers to Thank...
- Our very hard working planning committee: Barb & Steve Kalugin, Margaret Marshall & Diane Redlin, and of course Annette Clement & Chef Kyle of the Barclay Hotel who helped out with the details for our 3rd year.
- Our Judges: Crown Counsel & Pro Golfer Christina Proteau, Port Alberni Councilor Rob Cole, Ron Doetzel, Ron Paulson, and Hummingbird Day Care Centre manager Nicky Bezanson.
- Our fabulous emcee Jolie McMullan of 93.3 The Peak who kept our guests happy and laughing, and shared the story of her daughter when she was born in Winnipeg.
- Our guest speaker Leslie Kailer-Dore who touched our hearts with that very moving story of her experience with BC Children's Hospital and her son.
- The many volunteers (big thanks to Team BMO) that helped to set up all of the trees on the night before the kick off
- The great staff at The Barclay Hotel who put in countless hours to ensure the event was a success!

Woodfibre LNG Project Official Video 2016
Woodfibre LNG Limited, the privately held Canadian company behind the Woodfibre LNG Project, is planning to build a 2.1 mmtpa liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing and export facility at the former Woodfibre pulp mill site, about seven kilometres southwest of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada. The project will create an estimated 650+ jobs at the peak of construction, and 100+ jobs at the Woodfibre site as well as administration-type jobs in Squamish and Vancouver, BC during operation. The Woodfibre site is the right fit for LNG because it is a 100 year old industrial site, is zoned for industrial use, has a deep water port, and has access to a FortisBC natural gas pipeline and hydroelectricity from BC Hydro. Exploring Secret Abandoned Military Bunkers on Vancouver Island
Join us as we set off on a journey to finally see these abandoned military bunkers hiding away in the forest on Vancouver Island British Columbia. After seeing a photo that was later taken down, I knew I had to find this place. After a ton of digging around the internet, Facebook, and reading many webpages and comments I felt confident enough to try walking into the forest to see if they were where I thought they would be. We found two underground bunkers that are about 50' underground. Watch us walk down deep dark hallways, uncover ammunition storage areas and more! We also find an above ground barracks with multiple building and floors.
