Eagle Rock Loop Clean Up & Hike | Ouachita National Forest | Albert Pike Camping - Langley, Arkansas
This was an exciting time. It was the first DOME LIFE clean up. A portion of the proceeds you spend at domelife.camp help put on these clean up events, and you can find the events at if you would ever like to join. Look for one every 3 months (every quarter).
We started this journey by driving through Hot Springs, Arkansas. We arrived at Albert Pike area to meet friends and family who were camping with us. The next morning we drove down to Albert Pike Recreation Area to set up for our clean up event. We had 9 people show up, and 3 people that were just there for the day come and help out as well. We cleaned a portion of Eagle Rock Loop from the Albert Pike Recreation Area all the way to the Winding Staircase on the Little Missouri River.
Once done we cook fajitas for everyone who helped. After that, we went back to our camp and enjoyed some relaxing time buy the water. The next morning got a little hot so we left early and headed back to Hot Springs, Arkansas to enjoy the last of our time at Bubba Brews Brewing Co.
We would like to thank everyone who showed up and all who have supported this cause. Look for the next event to be posted soon.

Eagle Rock Loop AR :: Day 3
I took a 4 day backpacking trip to a place called Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas. It was an amazing time of growth for me as a backcountry hiker.
Eagle Rock Loop is a 26.5 mile loop in the Ouchita National Forest with varying different terrain from several mountains to large river fords. I was able to use this trail to train for my upcoming Appalachian Trail THRU Hike.
These videos are just a small glimpse (lightly documented) into my journey. Enjoy!

Mount Magazine State Park Camping | Ozark National Forest Exploring
On this trip we traveled to an Arkansas state park. Mount Magazine State Park. This park is located at the top of Mount Magazine, and is surrounded by the Ozark National Forest. Mount Magazine State Park is the tallest point in Arkansas at 2753 ft.
Our first task was to set up camp, and provided a campground review at Brown Springs Recreation Area. After that we left to take a look at the views over Cameron Bluff Recreation Area. Our next stop was The Lodge at Mount Magazine. There we had an amazing meal.
The next morning we woke up and did a cooking tutorial on breakfast burritos. Once done with breakfast, we still had to check in at the visitor center. There we provided a quick tour of the Mount Magazine Visitor Center. Once done, we went back to camp where we did yoga, and some trail running. For dinner, we cook salmon and couscous. Our finial activity on this day was a sunset at Cameron Bluff.
The next morning we made a quick breakfast, packed up camp, and left Mount Magazine State Park to go exploring in the Ozark National Forest. We found a few amazing location and ended our trip at Prestonrose Farm and Brewing Co.

Day 1 - Eagle Rock Loop Trail - HD
An amazing 26.8-mile hiking trail in the Ouachita National Forest in Arkansas.
This trail consists of 3 separate trails that combine to create an incredibly scenic and rugged 26.8-mile loop through the Arkansas wilderness.
I parked at the Little Missouri Falls area in Caddo Gap, Arkansas and hiked the trail clockwise in two days. I started on the Little Missouri Falls Trail and connected with the Viles Branch Horse Trail and then finally it intersects with the Athens - Big Fork Trail.
This is a spectacular hike with no less than 30 water crossings. Most are really simple and can be crossed by jumping rock to rock without having to take your shoes off. However, there are some that are very wide and fairly deep and there is no other way than to put on the water shoes and head into the freezing water.
I was able to cross every time with the exception of 4 or 5 times where I had to take my shoes off.
Needless to say, there is plenty of water on this trail and I never carried more than 1 liter. There was never any worries as I was always about 20 to 50 feet from the water. Most of the time I could see it right next to me while hiking.
The Little Missouri Trail and the Viles Branch Horse Trail were both fairly easy. There were a few difficult parts but I would say about 85% easy and 15% difficult.
The Athens- Big Fork Trail was without a doubt the hardest section of this hike. Crossing over six mountains where most of the climbing is vertical. Not a whole lot of switchbacks on this trail. This is the truly challenging part of the hike and it was incredible. I think I enjoyed this section this most!
I would definitely recommend this hike to any serious hikers out there. It is fairly difficult overall and would be a much easier hike if it was done in 3 days instead of 2.
I would have liked to have had an extra day just to slow down and really explore the area but it can be done in 2 days if that's all the time you have.
I started on Tuesday, Nov 18th at 8:00 a.m. and was back at my car on Wednesday, Nov 19th at 2:00 p.m. I camped somewhere along the Viles Branch Horse Trail.
The trail is marked fairly well except it takes some unexpected turns and you can find yourself off trail pretty easily. Keep your eyes open for the white blazes painted on the trees and if you don't see them turn around and go back to the last one you saw and work it out from there.
I also had to walk up and down the river to find places to cross without taking my shoes off, this wouldn't be a problem in the warmer months but it probably added at least a mile or so to the hike.
Overall it's a wonderful trail with a little bit of everything. I definitely would do this hike again!!!
Thanks for watching!!

LANGLEY, Ark. (AP) _ Six Louisiana Boy Scouts stranded by high water in an Arkansas forest said after being reunited with their families Tuesday that they never feared camping in an area where 20 people died in a flash flood last summer.
I was worried that my parents would freak out, said Ian Fuselier, 13.
A National Guard helicopter plucked the boys and two Scoutmasters from the Albert Pike Recreation Area at daybreak Tuesday after the boys' parents spent 36 hours awaiting their rescue.
Allen Miller, the father of 13-year-old Stephen Miller, was confident of a happy ending.
I wasn't worried, not with that group, Miller said.
According to one parent, the boys had considered a camping trip to Mississippi, but selected Arkansas as an alternative because of last week's tornadoes in the South. Arkansas weather was gloomy when they arrived last Thursday, and the heavy rain that started Saturday quickly swelled creeks and streams.
They're always prepared for that, said Jonah Fuselier, Ian's father, of the weather.
Scoutmaster Jeff Robinson said there were two planned river crossings on their hike. The first wasn't a problem as the Little Missouri River was only knee-high. The second crossing was deeper than usual, up to the chest, and as much as 70 feet wide.
I realized the water was too strong to cross the river with the boys, said Robinson, who waded into the stream to test its strength.
The leader said preparing for the unexpected is part of camping and that their only trouble was starting a fire in the rain. They packed in enough food and water that they could have stayed for another three or four days, he said. The boys ate jambalaya, eggs and grits while awaiting their rescue.
The Scouts camped above the flood plain where 20 people died in an overnight flash flood last June 11. Robinson said he was aware of the deaths but wasn't concerned about them.
We're not going to let nature frighten us away, Robinson said.
The National Guard helicopter crew initially spotted the boys' campfire overnight Monday and tossed down ponchos, food, water and blankets _ plus a radio that couldn't pick up a signal.
Our pilots had to wait on sunlight to be able to get in and land. We just got in and pulled them out, Maj. Chris Heathscott said in an email to The Associated Press.
About 6:30 a.m., the pilot landed in a clearing about 300 yards from the campsite and ferried the eight out in two trips, delivering them to a camp supply store where parents and relatives applauded their arrival.
The most exciting thing for them, other than just getting out of the field, is being able to fly away in a helicopter, Heathscott said. I mean, I saw nothing but pointing and looking down. I'm sure it's a great experience for them to be able to get out of there. I'm sure this is a day they'll never forget.
No one needed medical attention, although one Scout had a cut on a leg, Heathscott said. All the Scouts wore red hooded sweatshirts.
Art Hawkins, executive director of the Evangeline Area Council of the Boy Scouts in Lafayette, La., said the boys from Troop 162 offered a textbook example of what to do when camping, including leaving a detailed plan with a Scout leader who didn't make the trip.
Montgomery County Sheriff David White agreed.
As long as they stayed on high ground, we figured they were going to be in good shape, White said.

Eagle Rock Loop Backpacking Trip
Eagle Rock Loop Backpacking Trip
This is a 28.6 mile loop near Langley, AR. It is a beautiful trail that consists of 3 trails linked together to create the loop. A good portion of the trail is along the Little Missouri River and after periods of heavy rain, it can be dangerous to cross.
So that's exactly when we were there! Normal water flow is in the 100-150 cu ft per second range, while we were out there it peaked at approx 1800 cu ft per second. This caused us several problems with crossing. In the end we had to find alternate ways to get where we were going, but that's part of the adventure, and why you should know how to read a map!
Great adventure with great company!
While out we also did a comparison of three of the top hammocks on the market today, the Dream Hammock Sparrow, the Dutchware Gear Chameleon, and the Warbonnet Blackbird XLC. Watch the video to see how they stack up!
