Am Fuss des Albulapasses (2'312 m ü. M.) an den Ufern des Inn (rät. En) liegt die zum Bündner Bezirk Majola gehörige Oberengadiner Gemeinde La Punt-Chamues-ch (1'687 m ü. M.). Der Albulapass verbindet das Engadin mit dem Ort Tiefencastel im Albulatal. Die schmale Passstrasse ist seit dem Bau der Albulabahn als Transitroute bedeutungslos und wird fast nur noch von Touristen befahren. Von Oktober bis Juni ist sie wegen Lawinengefahr gesperrt.
Beim Taleinschnitt von Pontresina geht es flussaufwärts zum Berninamassiv. Über Celerina führt der Weg Richtung St. Moritz. Vom Dorf La Punt quert eine Brücke über den Inn nach Chamues-ch (rät. Camogask).
Bei La Punt-Chamues-ch beginnt die Ebene La Plaiv, eine weiträumige, dünn besiedelte Landschaft, wie sie für das Engadin typisch ist. In bewusster Absetzung zur überlaufenen Region um St. Moritz zählen sich die Ferienorte hier zum «anderen Engadin», wo es noch beschaulich zugeht.
La Punt-Chamues-ch (1,687 m above sea level) is an Upper Engadin municipality in the district of Maloja in the canton of Graubünden. It is located at the foot of the Albula Pass (2,312 m above sea level), which connects the Engadin valley with the Albula valley near Tiefencastel (European Watershed). La Punt is traversed by the Inn river (Romansh: En). Further upriver lie the Bernina Massif, at the Pontresina valley cleft, and famous St. Moritz, accessible via Celerina. A bridge over the Inn connects the formerly independent village of La Punt with Chamues-ch, which carries the Romanic name of Camogask. The La Plaiv region begins at La Punt-Chamues-ch.
