Old San Juan, Puerto Rico - Downtown Colonial Architecture HD (2013)
San Juan, officially Municipio de la Ciudad Capital San Juan Bautista (Municipality of the Capital City, Saint John the Baptist), is the capital and most populous municipality in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 395,326 making it the 46th-largest city under the jurisdiction of the United States. San Juan was founded by Spanish colonists in 1521, who called it Ciudad de Puerto Rico (Rich Port City). Puerto Rico's capital is the second oldest European-established capital city in the Americas, after Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic. Several historical buildings are located in San Juan; among the most notable are the city's former defensive forts, Fort San Felipe del Morro and Fort San Cristóbal, and La Fortaleza, the oldest executive mansion in continuous use in the Americas.
Today, San Juan is one of Puerto Rico's most important seaports, and is the island's manufacturing[citation needed], financial, cultural, and tourism center. The population of the Metropolitan Statistical Area, including San Juan and the municipalities of Bayamón, Guaynabo, Cataño, Canóvanas, Caguas, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Carolina and Trujillo Alto, is about 2 million inhabitants; thus, about half the population of Puerto Rico now lives and works in this area. San Juan is also a principal city of the San Juan-Caguas-Fajardo Combined Statistical Area. The city has been the host of numerous important events within the sports community, including the 1979 Pan American Games, 1966 Central American and Caribbean Games, events of the 2006, 2009 and 2013 World Baseball Classics, the Caribbean Series and the Special Olympics and MLB San Juan Series in 2010.
San Juan is cataloged as a global city, according to the Globalization and World Cities Research Network studies from the Loughborough University in London. Which classifies San Juan as Beta - city.

Puente La Bellaca (Horny Bridge) Quebradillas, Puerto Rico
Puente la Bellaca (The horny Bridge)
This former railroad bridge was named after the great river that once flowed below it.
This steel structure stands 125 above the ground, surrounded by verdant foliage. Today, the bridge’s name seems a bit inaccurate—but it makes sense once you know its history.
During the Spanish rule of the late 19th century, construction began on a railroad bridge as part of the development of a route connecting San Juan with the town of Aguadilla. Back then, a river flowed through the ravine where the bridge was being erected. The Spanish term bellaca means something that is strong, just like the river’s powerful currents. For this reason, the Spaniards named the structure Puente la Bellaca (The Horny Bridge)
But the bridge was never finished due to the Spanish-American War of 1898. When the United States gained control of Puerto Rico, the American Railroad Company developed the bridge as part of a route that circled the island along its coast, finishing it by 1906. The structure retained its brick and mortar piles built during the Spanish rule, which had a French architectural pattern because the Spaniards employed a French workforce for big construction projects.
The bridge no longer serves its original purpose, but still stands today. Currently, it operates a pipe system controlled by the Water and Sewage Authority and continues being supported by its original brick and mortar piles.
In recent years, the bridge has become a tourist spot for its imposing views of the surrounding foliage and the Atlantic Ocean. While the river no longer exists, visitors can imagine how intimidating it must have been while standing hundreds of feet above.

Ponce in Puerto Rico, travel , church, cross, tourism,
The Lions Fountain in Plaza Las Delicias
The city has been christened as Museum City for its many quality museums.[141][142] All museums in Ponce are under municipal government administration. On September 15, 2004, the last four museums not under local control were transferred from the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture to the Ponce Municipal Government by act of the Puerto Rico Legislature.[143] However, these four museums (Casa Armstrong Poventud, Casa Wiechers-Villaronga, Museo de la Música Puertorriqueña, and Casa de la Masacre) continue to be controlled by the ICP.[144][145] Downtown Ponce in particular features several museums and landmarks.[146]
Plaza Las Delicias, the town's main square, features a prominent fountain (namely, the Lions Fountain), the Ponce Cathedral, and Parque de Bombas, an old fire house, now a museum, that stands as an iconic symbol of the city and a tribute to the bravery of its firefighters. This plaza is also a usual gathering place for ponceños. Other buildings around Ponce's main plaza include the Casa Alcaldía (Ponce City Hall), the oldest colonial building in the city, dating to the 1840s, and the Armstrong-Poventud Residence, an example of the neoclassical architectural heritage of the island.
Just north of downtown Ponce lies the Castillo Serrallés and the Cruceta El Vigía, a 100-foot (30 m) observation tower which overlooks the city. The Serralles castle is reported to receive nearly 100,000 visitors every year.[147] The hill on which the Cruceta is located was originally used by scouts to scan for incoming mercantile ships as well as invading ones. The invasion of American troops in 1898 was first spotted from there.
Ponce is home to Puerto Rico's oldest cemetery; in fact, it is the oldest cemetery in the Antilles. In the city outskirts, the Tibes Indigenous Ceremonial Center was discovered in 1975 after hurricane rains uncovered pottery.[148] The center is the site of the oldest cemetery uncovered up to date in the Antilles. With some 200 skeletons unearthed from the year 300 AD, it is considered the largest and the most important archaeological finding in the West Indies.[149][150] Two other cemeteries in Ponce worth noting are the Panteón Nacional Román Baldorioty de Castro and the Cementerio Catolico San Vicente de Paul, both of which are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Cementerio Catolico San Vicente de Paul has the most eye-catching burial constructions of any cemetery for the wealthiest families, both local and foreign-born, of southern Puerto Rico.[151]

‣‣ Fact:
• The Tren Urbano as part of the territory of Puerto Rico and U.S. governments long behold rapid transit system study forty years in the making up to it's inaugural service on December 17, 2004. Tren Urbano links the three municipalities of San Juan, Guaynabo, and Bayamon through an aerial, underground, and at grade-level exclusive right-of-way. Currently, only one line exists after more ten years of being in service but more is to be added to rapid rail in the coming decades to give the metropolitan of San Juan a greatly needed rail network. Rather it's planned extensions to Santurce and Old San Juan; to Luis Munoz Marin Airport and the municipality of Carolina or the proposal for a larger, seperate rapid service connect the municipalities of San Juan and Caguas with a commuter rail similarity, for the first time since all railways throughout the island were depleted within the second-quarter of the twentieth century to make way for automobile roadways.
The trains are propelled by a direct-current third rail electrification track just above and to the side(s) of the track gauge. The line is less than eleven miles in length connecting to sixteen stations and the amount time to reach end-to-end is between 25-30 minutes to complete. Many privately- or municipal government-owned passenger transports accompany most, if not, all of the stations with the largest being, the Integrated Alternative Tansportation or ATi but wildly renown as, AMA Urban Transport.
