Alcobaca Monastery is a Roman Catholic monastery. It was fondta first Portuguese king Alfonso Enriques in 1153. Built in the early gotoc style. It has the largest church in portugal columns and walls are devoid of decoration (Cistercian church). The main chapel is surrounded by an ambulatory and radiating chapels several churches royal tombs of Pedro I and Ines de Castro's. Because of its historical and artistic heritage in 1989 it was declared a UNESCO

O MOSTEIRO DE SANTA MARIA DE ALCOBAÇA, ou mais simplesmente Mosteiro de Alcobaça, é a primeira obra plenamente gótica erguida em solo português. Os monges de Cister deram início à sua construção em 1178. Está classificado como Património da Humanidade pela UNESCO. Em 7 de Julho de 2007 foi eleito como uma das sete maravilhas de Portugal. A arquitetura da igreja de Alcobaça é um reflexo da regra beneditina da procura da modéstia, da humildade, do isolamento do mundo e do serviço a Deus. É difícil conhecer-se o aspecto da fachada original, pois foi destruída em 1531. Provavelmente, a igreja não possuiria campanários, correspondendo, deste modo, ao ideal cisterciense da simplicidade. A atual fachada é do século XVIII, restando do gótico primitivo o portal de arcos ogivais e o arco da rosácea. A concepção arquitetónica deste monumento, desprovida de decoração e sem imagens, como ordenava a Ordem de Cister, apresenta uma grandiosidade e beleza indiscutíveis. Os túmulos de D. Pedro I (1320-1367) e o de D. Inês de Castro (1320-1355), que se encontram em cada lado do transepto, ainda hoje atribuem um grande significado e esplendor à igreja. Os túmulos pertencem a uma das maiores esculturas tumulares da Idade Média.
THE MONASTERY OF SANTA MARIA DE ALCOBAÇA, or simply Alcobaça Monastery, is the first work, fully Gothic, built on Portuguese soil. The Cistercian monks started their construction in 1178. It is classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. On July 7, 2007 has been elected as one of the seven wonders of Portugal. The architecture of the church of Alcobaça is a reflection of the Benedictine rule in demand of modesty, humility, isolation from the world and service to God. It is difficult to know the original appearance of the facade because it was destroyed in 1531. Probably the church would not possess steeples, corresponding thus to the Cistercian ideal of simplicity. The current façade is from the eighteenth century. The portal with pointed arches and the arch of rosacea it's all that remains from primitive Gothic. The architectural design of this monument, devoid of decoration and without images, such as ordering the Cistercian Order, presents an undeniable grandeur and beauty. The tombs of D. Pedro I (1320-1367) and D. Inês de Castro (1320-1355), which lie on each side of the transept, still attach great significance and splendor to the church. The tombs belong to one of the largest tomb sculptures of the Middle Ages.

The Alcobaça Monastery is one of the first foundations of the Cistercian Order in Portugal. It was founded in 1153 as a gift to Bernard of Clairvaux,[3] shortly before his death, from the first Portuguese King, Afonso Henriques, to commemorate his victory over the Moors at Santarém in March 1147.

Alcobaça é uma cidade portuguesa pertencente ao Distrito de Leiria, região Centro e sub-região do Oeste, com cerca de 6 200 habitantes.
A cidade dista cerca de 109 km da capital Lisboa, situando-se entre três cidades maiores: Caldas da Rainha, Marinha Grande e Leiria.
É sede de um município com 417,05 km² de área e 55 597 habitantes (2006), subdividido em 18 freguesias. O município é limitado a norte pelo município da Marinha Grande, a leste por Leiria, Porto de Mós e Rio Maior, a sudoeste pelas Caldas da Rainha e a oeste envolve por completo a Nazaré e tem dois troços de costa no Oceano Atlântico.
É banhada pelos rios Alcoa e Baça, nomes de cuja aglutinação a tradição faz derivar o seu nome - o que está longe de ser consensual.
Foi elevada a cidade em 1995.

Le monastère Santa Maria de Alcobaca, Portugal 2017
Le monastère Santa Maria d’alcobaca est considéré comme un chef d’oeuvre de l’art gothique cistercien. et il est par le fait même, un des plus beau monastère de toute la péninsule ibérique. C’est pas sans raison qu’il est inscrit au patrimoine mondial de L’Unesco, parce qu’il il est remarquable par l’ampleur des dimensions, la beauté des matériaux utilisés, et le soin apporté à sa construction. Son imposante façade baroque cache une haute église austère, avec une foret d’arches. La genèse de la construction de se monastère vient du roi Dom Alfonso Henrique, qui en 1147, prend la ville de Santarem aux Maures. Et pour marquer cette victoire, il promet de construire une demeure magnifique pour l’ordre des cisterciens. Imaginez, ça a prit 76 ans pour finir l’ouvrage.

The Alcobaça Monastery (Portuguese: Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça) is a Mediaeval Roman Catholic monastery located in the town of Alcobaça, in Oeste Subregion. It was founded by the first Portuguese King, Afonso Henriques, in 1153, and maintained a close association with the Kings of Portugal throughout its history.
The church and monastery were the first Gothic buildings in Portugal, and, together with the Monastery of Santa Cruz in Coimbra, it was one of the most important of the mediaeval monasteries in Portugal. Due to its artistic and historical importance, it was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1989.
O Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça, também conhecido como Real Abadia de Santa Maria de Alcobaça ou mais simplesmente como Mosteiro de Alcobaça, é a primeira obra plenamente gótica erguida em solo português. Foi começado em 1178 pelos monges de Cister. Está classificado como Património da Humanidade pela UNESCO e como Monumento Nacional, desde 1910, IPPAR.[1] Em 7 de Julho de 2007, foi eleito como uma das sete maravilhas de Portugal. Em 1834 os monges foram forçados a abandonar o mosteiro, na sequência do decreto de supressão de todas as ordens religiosas de Portugal, promulgado por Joaquim António de Aguiar, ministro dos negócios eclesiásticos e da justiça do governo da regência de D. Pedro, Duque de Bragança.

The Mosteiro De Alcobaca is a massive, medieval monastery in Alcobaca and one of the most important historical monuments in Portugal. The creative influence of the monastery's fraternity is still evident and its interior is one of the most beautiful examples of Gothic Cistercian design. King Afonso Henriques promised the construction of the Cistercian monastery in 1147 following a decisive victory over the Moors. He kept his word and six years after his military triumph the first construction work on the monastery began. The majority of the buildings were completed in 1222 although the monastery's kitchen and its impressive chimney were added in the 18th century. The Cloister was built in the 15th century at the time of King Dinis. Due to the vow of silence this building was known as the silent cloister. When the religious fraternities were disbanded in 1834 the Mosteiro De Alcobaca was abandoned by its monks but its treasures and much of its age old splendour have been preserved to the present day.

Wie wir dort erfuhren, ist es eng mit der Gründungsgeschichte des Staates Portugals verbunden sind. Es wurde im Jahr 1153, nach dem Sieg über die maurische Fremdherrschaft, gegründet.
