Alejandro de Humboldt National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Alejandro de Humboldt) is a national park in the Cuban provinces of Holguín and Guantánamo. It is named after the German scientist Alexander von Humboldt who visited the island in 1800 and 1801. The park was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001 for of its size, altitude range, complex lithology, landform diversity, and wealth of endemic flora and fauna.

The Alexander von Humboldt National Park has historically been an area of land little used by man, with only one archaeological site from the pre-Columbian period being known; this is located in the coastal zone of Aguas Verdes.
Baracoa is a municipality and city in Guantánamo Province near the eastern tip of Cuba. It was founded by the first governor of Cuba, the Spanish conquistador Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar in August 15 of 1511. It is the oldest Spanish settlement in Cuba and was its first capital (the basis for its nickname Ciudad Primada, First City).

Stretta fra il mare e la Sierra del Purial, dalla lussureggiante vegetazione tropicale, fino agli anni '60 Baracoa era accessibile solo in barca. Questo isolamento favorì lo sviluppo di un'atmosfera particolare, in cui fiorirono leggende e magia. La città si estende ai piedi di El Yunque, una montagna dalla cima piatta. Le spiagge che costeggiano la baia hanno tutte le caratteristiche per disegnare un litorale da sogno.
Confinando a nord con l'Atlantico ed in tutte le altre direzioni con fiumi, montagne e foreste, Baracoa rimane ancora in gran parte isolata, il che rappresenta una delle sue attrattive principali. La città è stata definita come una delle più affascinanti mete di Cuba, grazie alla grande diversità delle sue attrattive locali, come il caratteristico altopiano di El Yunque, e ad una vivace attività culturale, come il festival di strada che ogni anno ad aprile commemora l'inizio della guerra di Cuba per l'indipendenza. Gli appassionati di musica in visita a Baracoa apprezzeranno il changüí, una caratteristica musica indigena che risuona per le strade dei vicini villaggi di Virginia e Yateras. Baracoa è anche la madrepatria della Tumba Francesa, una danza creola ispirata al minuetto francese. Le rigogliose e fiorenti foreste pluviali di Baracoa ospitano migliaia di specie di flora e fauna, molte delle quali rare o in via di estinzione. La diversità del paesaggio -- cactus semi-aridi, fertili piantagioni di montagna e paradiso balneare -- rendono i dintorni di Baracoa tanto piacevoli quanto la città stessa. Fra le escursioni da ricordare ci sono la riserva della biosfera UNESCO di Cuchillas del Toa (che comprende il Parco Nazionale Alejandro de Humboldt) e la magnifica cascata Saltadero, alta 17 metri.
Monte Yunque: A 2 km dall'uscita di Baracoa, un sentiero parte dalla strada principale dietro il segnale Finca Duaba. Dopo 400 m, il troncone di sinistra porta ai piedi di El Yunque, la montagna dalla cima piatta che domina la città. Dopo una piacevole passeggiata in una natura rigogliosa, li escursionisti saranno ricompensati da un delizioso bagno nelle acque pure di un torrente.

Moa is dirty Moa is industrial but it is part of the Cuba's economy. That route will bring you to Holguin. Holguin will be a surprise. Holguin will amaze you. So come along for the adventure.
CUBA can be exciting and adventurous and certainly the Jeep ride from Baracoa to Holguin falls into the category of exciting and adventurous. Start fresh in Baracoa full of the spirit of adventure - arrive exhausted and drained in Holguin five hours later. Start early in the morning from Baracoa and hold onto your seat as you pass through world famous UNESCO World Hertitage Site Parque Nacional Alejandro Humboldt. The Alexander von Humboldt National Park has historically been an area of land little used by man, with only one archaeological site from the pre-Columbian period being known; this is located in the coastal zone of Aguas Verdes. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries some peripheral places were used as refuges or camps by maroons.
The park began to be laid out in the 1960s, with the declaration of the Jaguani and Cupeyal del Norte nature reserves. This continued into the 1980s with the proposal of the Ojito del Agua Refuge, associated with the last sighting of the royal woodpecker, a last remnant of this species which was already extinct in its other habitats in the United States and Mexico. In 1996 these protected areas were united to form a national park that was named after Alexander von Humboldt. Being one of the most important biosphere reserves in the Caribbean basin, the national park, along with Cuchillas del Toa was declared a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2001.
There are unique flora and fauna elements in this unique ecosystem, with some of the highest indexes of endemicity in the archipelago.
