Lamb to the Slaughter
Lamb to the Slaughter (1953) is a short story by Roald Dahl. It was initially rejected, along with four other stories, by The New Yorker, but was ultimately published in Harper's Magazine in September 1953. It was adapted for an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and starred Barbara Bel Geddes. Originally broadcast on April 13, 1958, it was one of only 17 AHP episodes directed by Hitchcock himself. The story was subsequently adapted for Dahl's British TV series Tales of the Unexpected. Dahl included it in his short story compilation Someone like You.
Lamb to the Slaughter demonstrates Dahl's fascination with horror (with elements of black comedy), which is seen in both his adult fiction and his stories for children. The story was supposedly suggested to Dahl by his friend Ian Fleming: Why don't you have someone murder their husband with a frozen leg of mutton which she then serves to the detectives who come to investigate the murder?.

Exploring Michelham Priory's Haunted House (Sussex)
Here's Part 2 of michelham priory! Hope you enjoy, Here's a little history on the place!
Michelham Priory is a Grade I and Grade II listed.
One of the many ghosts that have been reported here is that of Thomas Sackville. He was once the owner of the priory and still haunts the halls to this day tormenting the spirit of a young girl called Rosie. She is reported to hide in the wood panelling at the top of the stairs to stay clear of her tormentor.
One of the more regular hauntings is that of the Grey Lady, who has been seen on many occasions by the bridge and the gate house. She has also been seen near the moat staring into the water apparently mourning her child who drowned in there many years before her own death. She has also been reported to stare into the faces of sleeping guests and then float away through the walls.
Other hauntings include a black hooded monk in the undercroft, a young boy in the kitchens, a maid in the hall, and a lady dressed in Tudor clothing walking the corridors.
There has also been reports of poltergeist activity, with windows opening, doors banging shut and opening, and as captured on Most Haunted, a chair moving by itself.

There is something really intriguing about a beer that is light in color, yet still infused with huge aroma and flavor, isn’t there? It deceives the senses in a pleasant, yet completely surprising way; tasting great beer tends to be like that. So much of what we expect to taste, influences our opinion even before we actually do the tasting. Today, we ask that you set any preconceived notions aside so that you can take in the unexpected. A simple grain bill of pils, light crystal, and a bit of wheat, combined with a vigorous hop dosing of Mosaic and Simcoe make this beer just bookoo enough. Just don’t call it too bookoo!

“Yellow belly” — a person who is without courage, fortitude, or nerve; a coward.
To us, one of the most cowardly deeds is to act anonymously, hiding behind a group. A signifying trait of institutionalised racism.
This beer is brewed to celebrate all things new, open minded and progressive. A peanut butter biscuit stout with no biscuits, butter or nuts. Taste, enjoy, and don’t be prejudiced.

Samuel Adams Got To Gose Beer Review - Ale Brewed With Salt & Coriander w/ Cucumber Added
SAMUEL ADAMS GOT TO GOSE
Breezy, fresh and invigorating. As the saying goes, it’s “cool as a cucumber”, but that’s something quite unexpected when it comes to beer. We began with the brisk yet flavorful German Gose style, brewed with salt and coriander for a slightly tart sparkling taste and hint of pepper. But for a lighthearted twist we added a hint of cucumber creating a crisp, fresh brew.
HOP VARIETIES - Saaz Noble Hops
MALT VARIETIES - Samuel Adams two-row pale malt blend, wheat, acidulated malt
YEAST STRAIN - Samuel Adams ale yeast
COLOR - Pale golden / 6 SRM
SPECIAL INGREDIENTS - Coriander, Kosher Salt, and Cucumber
ALC. BY VOL/WT - 4.8%ABV, 3.7%ABW

AVAILABILITY - Limited Release
THE TOOLS
Gose (pronounced “goes-uh”) is a rare German style we first started to experiment with when developing Verloren several years ago. This almost lost style was known for its crisp and unique taste. The wheat adds a smooth cereal note and acidulated malt creates just a hint of tartness while the additions of coriander and salt create a peppery bite and slight mineral quality. For a playful spin on the style we added a hint of cucumber for a cooling and refreshing taste.
THE TRADE
The cucumber, grown in Spain and Poland, is added just before filtration to create a light, green freshness to the aroma and finish that complements the wheat and spice without overpowering the beer. Rather than tasting salty, the addition of salt instead brings together and heightens the flavors of the brew with a subtle savory and lively touch.
THE LEGACY
Not to be confused with a Gueuze (a sour Belgian beer), Gose is a peculiar German style that falls outside of the Bavarian tradition. Originating in Goslar, Saxony, gose was popularized in 1738 when Duke Leopold brought it to nearby Leipzig outside of Bavaria, where the German Beer Purity Law of Reinheitsgebot dictated that beer only contain 3 ingredients, water, malt, and hops (yeast was not yet known). Gose became a regional specialty for its combination of crisp wheat, slight tartness, and peppery finish from coriander. Adding a touch of salt brought all of those flavors together and added a mineral hint. Like many beer styles, gose began to disappear as light pilsners grew in popularity, but it became even rarer with the onset of WWII.

Napoleon Hill was an American author in the area of the new thought movement who was one of the earliest producers of the modern genre of personal-success literature. He is widely considered to be one of the great writers on success. His most famous work, Think and Grow Rich (1937), is one of the best-selling books of all time (at the time of Hill's death in 1970, Think and Grow Rich had sold 20 million copies). Hill's works examined the power of personal beliefs, and the role they play in personal success. He became an advisor to President Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1933 to 1936. What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve is one of Hill's hallmark expressions. How achievement actually occurs, and a formula for it that puts success in reach of the average person, were the focal points of Hill's books.

The Law of Success (1928)
The Magic Ladder To Success (1930)

Our Miss Brooks: Magazine Articles / Cow in the Closet / Takes Over Spring Garden / Orphan Twins
Our Miss Brooks is an American situation comedy starring Eve Arden as a sardonic high school English teacher. It began as a radio show broadcast from 1948 to 1957. When the show was adapted to television (1952--56), it became one of the medium's earliest hits. In 1956, the sitcom was adapted for big screen in the film of the same name.
Connie (Constance) Brooks (Eve Arden), an English teacher at fictional Madison High School.
Osgood Conklin (Gale Gordon), blustery, gruff, crooked and unsympathetic Madison High principal, a near-constant pain to his faculty and students. (Conklin was played by Joseph Forte in the show's first episode; Gordon succeeded him for the rest of the series' run.) Occasionally Conklin would rig competitions at the school--such as that for prom queen--so that his daughter Harriet would win.
Walter Denton (Richard Crenna, billed at the time as Dick Crenna), a Madison High student, well-intentioned and clumsy, with a nasally high, cracking voice, often driving Miss Brooks (his self-professed favorite teacher) to school in a broken-down jalopy. Miss Brooks' references to her own usually-in-the-shop car became one of the show's running gags.
Philip Boynton (Jeff Chandler on radio, billed sometimes under his birth name Ira Grossel); Robert Rockwell on both radio and television), Madison High biology teacher, the shy and often clueless object of Miss Brooks' affections.
Margaret Davis (Jane Morgan), Miss Brooks' absentminded landlady, whose two trademarks are a cat named Minerva, and a penchant for whipping up exotic and often inedible breakfasts.
Harriet Conklin (Gloria McMillan), Madison High student and daughter of principal Conklin. A sometime love interest for Walter Denton, Harriet was honest and guileless with none of her father's malevolence and dishonesty.
Stretch (Fabian) Snodgrass (Leonard Smith), dull-witted Madison High athletic star and Walter's best friend.
Daisy Enright (Mary Jane Croft), Madison High English teacher, and a scheming professional and romantic rival to Miss Brooks.
Jacques Monet (Gerald Mohr), a French teacher.
Our Miss Brooks was a hit on radio from the outset; within eight months of its launch as a regular series, the show landed several honors, including four for Eve Arden, who won polls in four individual publications of the time. Arden had actually been the third choice to play the title role. Harry Ackerman, West Coast director of programming, wanted Shirley Booth for the part, but as he told historian Gerald Nachman many years later, he realized Booth was too focused on the underpaid downside of public school teaching at the time to have fun with the role.
Lucille Ball was believed to have been the next choice, but she was already committed to My Favorite Husband and didn't audition. Chairman Bill Paley, who was friendly with Arden, persuaded her to audition for the part. With a slightly rewritten audition script--Osgood Conklin, for example, was originally written as a school board president but was now written as the incoming new Madison principal--Arden agreed to give the newly-revamped show a try.
Produced by Larry Berns and written by director Al Lewis, Our Miss Brooks premiered on July 19, 1948. According to radio critic John Crosby, her lines were very feline in dialogue scenes with principal Conklin and would-be boyfriend Boynton, with sharp, witty comebacks. The interplay between the cast--blustery Conklin, nebbishy Denton, accommodating Harriet, absentminded Mrs. Davis, clueless Boynton, scheming Miss Enright--also received positive reviews.
Arden won a radio listeners' poll by Radio Mirror magazine as the top ranking comedienne of 1948-49, receiving her award at the end of an Our Miss Brooks broadcast that March. I'm certainly going to try in the coming months to merit the honor you've bestowed upon me, because I understand that if I win this two years in a row, I get to keep Mr. Boynton, she joked. But she was also a hit with the critics; a winter 1949 poll of newspaper and magazine radio editors taken by Motion Picture Daily named her the year's best radio comedienne.
For its entire radio life, the show was sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive-Peet, promoting Palmolive soap, Lustre Creme shampoo and Toni hair care products. The radio series continued until 1957, a year after its television life ended.
