Alex Gambal Dinner at WineWatch
Alex Gambal has taken Burgundy by storm. He moved to Burgundy in the early 1990's to work for trail blazer Becky Wasserman, fell in love with the people, wines and lifestyle of the vigneron. This experience prompted him to open his own negociant firm in 1997. Alex is a good friend of Wine Watch and he was just in town in March but because of the last minute nature of his visit we were unable to hook up for an event but I promised Alex we would do a tasting featuring his newly released 2008 vintage wines and I thought that this year it would be fun to show the exact same wine along with its counterpart from the 2007 vintage. We will be handing out an offering of wines available from the outstanding 2009 vintage from Gambal and it will include some big bottles of Burgundy which are very rare. Most distributors are not fans of big bottles so we have to order them special and when Alex called me and asked if I wanted some magnums of his 2009's in Magnum format. I said- you know I do!
Tonight we will be comparing the 2007 and 2008 vintage wines with a duo of each wine being served at this event. Along with a three course tasting menu prepared by Wine Watch Catering's Toni Lampasone. The fee for this event is $75 + tax for reservations call 954-523-9463
Alex Gambal 2013 Offering

This is an informative wine production highlighting the wines at the Wine Watch, in Fort Lauderdale. It is intended as a companion to Wine Watch Email offers. For more information please visit winewatch.com
What I Drank Yesterday- Alex Gambal at Wine Watch
We had a great tasting in the store on Friday evening with our good friend Alex Gambal's wines. Alex is one of the few Americans that has set up shop in Burgundy as a negociant and just recently became the first American ever
to own Grand Cru vineyards in the world's most prestigeous wine region for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on Earth.
The 2008's were the favorite on this evening but both vintages were very challenging for the producers as you really had to do your work in the vineyards and cross your fingers at the end of the year that the weather was
good enough to get the last bit of fruit ripened before harvest.
The 2007's have great freshness and are showing nicely right now while the 2008's may be a little bit fleshier and a bit brighter in the acidity sector, they still have a lovely savoryness to them. The whites are the real stars in 2008
with a few tasters signaling their favorite at the end of the night was
Burgundy in the 1990's. Winemaker Alex Gambal talks about the era and the people.
Winemaker Alex Gambal talks about arriving in Burgundy, meeting Becky Wasserman and learning from the famed importer as well as some of the best winemakers in Burgundy. The process of tasting with the likes of Patrick Bize and others was central to his understanding the region and its terroirs.

Alex Gambal 2009 Offering
The 2009 vintage wines from Burgundy are here and those of you that love burgundy will want some of these in your cellar and I thought it would be a good idea to get a few big bottles of Burgundy in to celebrate. Celebrate what? Well maybe another day above ground? The only thing I need to celebrate is a few good friends.
Speaking of good friends, one of Wine Watch's best friedns in Burgundy is Alex Gambal. His 2009's have arrived and we have an incredible supply of magnums and a good array of older vintage wines from Alex also.

2009 Lupe Cholet Bourgogne Offering
When asked whether he ever confused a Bordeaux with a Burgundy in a blind tasting, British wine legend Harry Waugh replied: Not since lunch.
I know what your thinking and we do not only sell expensive wines. We have a lot of wines in the store in the $10-$15 price range and because of the ecomony there are more good choices in this price range than ever before.
I was thinking about the event tonight with Alex Gambal and we will get to his stuff next week in our What I Drank Yesterday part of the show but first I wanted to tell you about one of the best values that we have had from the 2009 Burgundy vintage. This is such and incredible vintage that even the Bourgogne Rouge is very good.
