ITINERARY:

ROME: 3 days
-- BUS (Flixbus) from Rome to Naples (~2hrs)
NAPLES REGION: 4 days (Capri, Pompeii, Amalfi Coast - Positano, Sorrento).
ROOFTOP AIRBNB: We stayed in an incredible Airbnb in Portici (just outside of Naples) with a rooftop ALL to ourselves!
The Italian host family was so kind and inviting! We will always remember Mama Lucia and her husband Dino :)
We paid 35 euros per night for 2 people (so about 17 euros each) - pretty good price! Location was perfect, right beside the train station Portici Via Libertà which took us to downtown Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento. I highly recommend this Airbnb! Here's the link:
-- BUS (buscenter.it) overnight bus from Naples to Palermo, Sicily (~10 hrs)
SICILY (rented a car)
PALERMO (3 days) - Mondello Beach!
TRAPANI (3 days) - Trapani downtown, Erice, Scopello, Riserva naturale dello Zingaro! (you definitely need a car to drive to the parks outside of Trapani)

Travel Vlog Italy Sicily Palermo
Welcome to Palermo, the capital of Sicily, and one of my favorite destinations on this trip. Walking around the city there were so many historical attractions, ancient buildings, and dramatic coastlines to explore. Markets were bustling and the streets and piazzas were filled with people enjoying food and live music. You have to stop and see these sites - the Palermo Cathedral, Palazzo dei Normanni, San Giovanni degli Eremiti, Monte Pellegrino, the food markets of Ballaro, Cap, and Vucciria. I was staying by the Teattro Massimo and enjoyed watching all the passersby between the buildings surrounding the Piazza Giuseppe Verdi. I didn't get to see an Italian opera, though I'll save that for next time. There's also the Fontana Pretoria, which is majestic as well as all the architecture you'll come across in the Quattro Canti or Borgo Vecchio. If you have time you can even go to the Mondello beach. Make sure to try Palermo cuisine and street food. I had some friends show me around fun spots and got to eat some of the best - arancina, pane con la milza, frittola, stigghiola, pezzi di rosticceria - the list goes on. Hope you enjoyed this one. I hope you guys enjoy it ❤️
Palermo Quattro Canti and Cathedral Sicily, Italy
Quattro Canti takes centre stage at the intersection of Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Via Maqueda with its four beautiful facades. A few metres away is the Fontana Pretoria, a major landmark with tiered basins and nude nymphs. A few blocks away is the Cathedral, a converted mosque with crenellations and cupolas. Background music is Sicilian Breeze by Topher Mohr & Alex elena.

Travel Vlog Italy Sicily Villa Romana del Casale Palermo
After exploring Taormina, I drove across Sicily. I stopped for a while at Villa Romana del Casale, an elaborate Roman villa. The archaeological find is one of the most astonishing in the world. The mosaics are well preserved depicting scenes from Greek myths and life in the Roman world. During the Arab-Norman period, the villa had become a larger medieval settlement. After getting a fix from the extraordinary collection of frescoes covering all the rooms and walls, I continued on to the city of Palermo. Little did I know I was arriving for the Pride parade. I was just going to get some dinner, but then I heard it! People were dancing in the streets and piazzas so it was easy to make friends. I partied until the next morning and was so glad to meet some amazing folks who shared some of the local culture. Check out more of my travel videos!

DIY FOOD TOUR in PALERMO! What to Eat in Sicily, Italy // 157
I found as many authentic Sicilian foods as I could stuff in my mouth in one day in Palermo, and here they are! The DIY Food Tour in Sicily included: Arancini (my favorite), Cannoli, Sicilian Orange, Pane Di Panelle, and Cassata Siciliana.
The arancini is a fried rice ball filled with sauce, meat, cheese, or other fllings. They're named arancinis because once fried to a perfect golden, they look like Sicily's famous oranges.
The cannoli is a classic most people know, a stiff pastry filled with a sweetened ricotta mixture. However, most don't realize the deep cultural history that it is made of.
The Sicilian oranges had to be included because Sicily is said to have the best oranges in the world! It certainly did not disappoint.
Pane di Panelle is a sandwich made with chickpea-flour patties in the middle. Served as street food for about 2 euros.
Cassata Siciliana is an indulgent dessert. It consist of spongecake which is covered in a sweet almond cream, which is covered a thick sugar shell. It was so sweet I couldn't finish it all!
If you're wondering what to eat in Palermo, or what to eat in Sicily for that matter, then you'll be faced with a bombardment of choices! Almost everything I ate in Sicily was fantastic, and so much of it holds deep roots in culture!
If you're traveling on a budget, or you're like me and you're on one long-term low budget travel trip, then don't pay an absurd amount of money for a food tour in Palermo or Sicily. Instead, do a DIY food tour and pay only for the food!
