Inside Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Tallinn, Estonia
The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is an orthodox cathedral in the Tallinn Old Town, Estonia. It was built to a design by Mikhail Preobrazhensky in a typical Russian Revival style between 1894 and 1900, during the period when the country was part of the Russian Empire. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is Tallinn's largest and grandest orthodox cupola cathedral. It is dedicated to Saint Alexander Nevsky who in 1242 won the Battle of the Ice on Lake Peipus, in the territorial waters of present-day Estonia. The late Russian patriarch, Alexis II, started his priestly ministry in the church.

Thousands of Georgians stage parade for Orthodox Christmas
Thousands of Georgian worshippers celebrated Orthodox Christmas in the capital Tbilisi on Sunday (January 7) with a colourful costumed procession.
Some participants wore national costumes, others depicted Biblical characters from the nativity story, such as shepherds, soldiers or religious figures.
The centuries-old tradition was banned in the Soviet times, but memory of it was passed from generation to generation.
Orthodox Christianity has become a symbol of national identity and unity for Georgians, after the turbulent years following the declaration of the country's independence.
Similar costumed marches took place on Christmas Day in most of towns and villages across Georgia, which was the second country after Armenia to adopt Christianity as its state religion in the beginning of the fourth century.

Saint Catherine's Armenian Church
Saint Catherine's Armenian Church is an Armenian Apostolic church on Nevsky Prospect, in central Saint Petersburg, Russia. Built in the 1770s, it is one of the earliest Armenian churches in Russia.
Private stables of Empress Elizabeth of Russia stood on its location in the mid-18th century, until it was granted to Petersburg Armenians on May 2, 1770, by Empress Catherine the Great, upon the request of her Armenian jeweler Ivan Lazarev. Its construction was primarily financed by Lazarev, who provided 30,000 rubles out of the total of 33,000. The church was designed by Yury Felten. Its construction began in the spring of 1771 and completed in 1776. The church was consecrated on February 18, 1780, by Hovsep Arghutian (Prince Argutinsky-Dolgorukov), the archbishop of the Russian diocese of the Armenian church, in attendance of Prince Grigory Potemkin, the favorite of Catherine the Great. It is named after Catherine of Alexandria, a namesake of the empress. It is an early example of Russian Classicism. Colored white and blue, it has a neoclassical portico and single cupola.

STORYLINE:
Hundreds walked through the centre of Georgia's capital on Orthodox Christmas Day to take part in a traditional charity procession.
The Alilo parade dates back centuries when, after attending Christmas mass, the faithful would walk the streets to collect for charity.
The word Alilo in Georgian means Glory to God and the tradition dates back to the fifth century.
The procession was banned during Soviet times, and was only restored in 2000.
Many of those joining Thursday's event in Tbilisi wore national or church garments, or outfits symbolising scenes of the nativity.
As they made their way down the capital, they collected gifts and goods to be donated to those in need.
Georgia is among other Christian Orthodox countries celebrating Christmas on 7 January.
