Peter and Joseph explore Kew an inner suburb of Melbourne, Australia, 5 km east from Melbourne's Central Business.
OOPS! When Peter recalls the memory of the Alexander Gardens, they are actually called the Alexandra, named after Queen Alexandra who was married to King Edward VII. Many thanks to the Kew Historical Society for picking up the error.

RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show | The Health and Wellbeing Garden, Lifestyle Gardens 2018
Garden designer, Alexandra Noble, talks about The Health and Wellbeing Garden meant to encourage deep thinking via a continuous path with no start or end point. The visitor moves through the space, which is defined by motion rather than walls, without a destination. The aim of the garden is to slow one’s pace and mind and encourage a sense of being in the moment.

Top 4 Incredible Things To Do In Kew
Top 4 Incredible Things To Do In Kew
It’s worth getting dressed up to spend a day in Kew, where beautiful parklands and The Yarra River combine to produce a backdrop of gorgeous scenery for perfect pictures.
1. Alexandra Gardens and fresh produce
Enjoy the fresh produce on offer at Toscano’s, the cheese bar at Leo’s and the free range meats at Cannings and pack your own picnic to take to Alexandra Gardens. With free public bbqs and restrooms, plenty of picnic tables and shady trees, this is a beautiful, quiet park where you can relax and enjoy the sunshine.
2. Studley Park Boathouse
Surrounded by swirling bike trails along Yarra Bend, The Studley Park Boathouse is a beautiful old building where you can hire a row boat, watch the ducks, -- jog along the bridge or book in for lunch at the upstairs restaurant. Australian wildlife is easy to spot here at the boathouse where kookaburras laugh in the trees above and lizards bask on the sunny rocks.
3. Lyonhouse Museum
This is Kew’s best kept secret! A wonderful art gallery which is hidden away behind a fence with a secret message. Australia’s most prolific contemporary art is on display in an architect's specifically designed home-museum. For an entry fee $22 You will be taken inside the home of Corbett Lyon to marvel at the works of artists like Patricia Piccinini in a tour hosted by architect himself you who will share engaging stories about the works and also play this specifically made organ which has been built into the house and combines the tones of several organs all at once.
4. Bellbird Picnic Area
Watch the sunset on the Yarra as thousands of Grey-headed Flying-foxes fly out into the evening. It is a truly fascinating event that you can watch any night of the year. Here are some facts about grey-headed flying foxes that you can casually mention during your visit:
Flying Foxes are also known as Megabats or Fruitbats.
They live in forests along the eastern coast of Australia.
The Grey-headed Flying-fox is the largest native bat in Australia.
Their wingspan can expand to 1m and they can weigh up to 1kg.
At night they search for pollen, nectar and fruits and they promote healthy forests by pollinating native flowers and dispersing native seeds. A decrease in Flying-fox population would have a negative effect on Australian rainforests and forests, which rely on the bats to complete these ecological processes.

A BEAUTIFUL WEDDING AND AN EPIC PARTY
I first chatted to Alexandra and Andrew on skype and we chatted about a drone film I had produced in Iceland a few years go (which you can see here) and how I happened to take some footage in a fairly obscure area, where Andrew had proposed not so long ago, which was great to here. I could also tell from our conversation that the couple got my style of filmmaking, which is important to me as the tone of my films is not necessarily for everyone and I want people to be on the same wavelength before booking, to make sure everyone is happy with the final product!
They described the village in Kent, with its windmill and village green, and the family home where their garden wedding would be taking place and it sounded very picturesque, however I wasn’t prepared for how beautiful the views were from the garden would be, or how immacutely their marquee would be styled.
The couple got ready a few doors from each other, allowing me the chance to take footage of both lots of preperations, which always helps create a great dynamic in the morning footage.
The wedding ceremony took place at a local church, Alex arriving in a stylish red MG. After the ceremony, the photographer and I followed the couple in the MG to a beautiful local spot for some portrait shots and I also took the oppurunity to get Andrew to take me for a quick spin in the MG to get some lovely opening shots for their film from inside the car, which turned out better than I’d hoped.
Their wedding reception was filled with family, friends, children (and a dog) having a great time in the sunshine before the wedding breakfast. Andrew gave a great speech which can be heard in the film, alongside a beautiful reading from the church ceremony, both of which help drive the narrative of the main part of the film.
I knew Andrew and Alex had a band in the evening and that they had a great lively group of friends and family ready to party, however I wasn’t quite prepared for such a frenetic and fun atmosphere, partly driven by a stand out performance from the band. The dance floor was packed all evening and everyone was oblivious to my camera, which was perfect, as it allowed me to get some of my favourite dancing footage of the year, all topped off with some great sparkler action at the end of th evening.
It was great to be part of Andrew and Alex’s day, and to meet their welcoming friends and family, and enjoy a very memorable day and evening with them.

Royal Botanic Garden Oasis
The Hanna Salameh Design team wins The Royal Botanic Garden of Jordan (RBGJ) design competition for “The Oasis” project.
The sustainable shaded pavilion is inspired by nature and designed with modern-day capabilities. The RBG Oasis is a fun tree-like observation tower that provides shelter for visitors, while also acting as a landmark that represents the project’s core values of connecting humans to nature. The garden’s high levels of humidity are capitalized by a smart system of meshes and pipes within the structure that collects the water, filters it and offer it as a refreshing drink for visitors after their tour.
