Launceston Cataract Gorge Chairlift and Alexandra suspension bridge
Gorge Scenic Chairlift
In 1972, a magnificent chairlift was built spanning the huge natural basin often filled by the surging waters of the South Esk River. The chairlift covers some 457 metres, with terminal buildings at the First Basin (West Launceston) end and idling station at the Cliff Grounds side (Trevallyn). The central span of 308 metres is believed to be the longest single chairlift span in the world. Seating is designed for complete safety and includes a safety bar which can be operated by either the passenger or attendant. The slow speed of the chairlift enables passengers to appreciate fully and photograph the spectacular views of this ancient rock gorge..
OPEN EVERY DAY.
Cost: One way $12, return $15....... ✿◕ ‿ ◕✿

History:
Opened 30 November 1904.
The total length is 220ft., the clear span between the centres of the steel towers being 150ft. The bridge structure is formed of steel frames, hung by steel rods from the main cables, and carrying
a wood decking, with a galvanized steel lattice guard at each side, giving a path way 3ft. 6in. wide. There are two main cables, taking the whole of the weight.
These are made of plough steel wire, of the highest quality, and are 1¾in. in diameter. Anchored at each end to the solid rock, they are passed over steel towers 32ft high, between which they depend in graceful curves.

Launceston flood 2016 - Duck Reach
City of Launceston Parks and Recreation project officer Trevor has been busy getting walking tracks around the municipality back open for public use.
The Alexandra suspension bridge in the First Basin was re-opened yesterday, but the Duck Reach suspension bridge currently remains closed.
Here, Trevor gives an insight into the water levels at Duck Reach during the peak flows in the South Esk River, and explains some of the work that will need to be undertaken before the suspension bridge can be re-opened.

A drive through Launceston (4) - Friday 8th November 2019
A drive through Launceston ..... ????
Friday 5:00 pm peak hour traffic on a late spring afternoon.
As shops start to close, the signs outside are taken back in and roller doors begin to come down.
Everyone's finishing work in the city and are about to go home.
Hope we will enjoy this slightly longish clip seen through the dash cam driving through our beautiful city.
Launceston is our second largest city in Tasmania (Hobart being the capital) and has an estimated population of just over 66,000 people, which accounts for 0.36% of Australian population.
Tourist visiting Launceston require a valid passport and a Tasmania visa. Our border security is one of the strictest in the world (just kidding, ha ha)......... ♡♡♡
Many happy greetings everyone
