Hi Guys, welcome to my channel. this is video is about my Artxlagos experience.... enjoy!
Art House: Signature Gallery Hosts Unusual Art Auction
Works of art from different African arts are up for auction at the signature gallery in Lagos and it was not your everyday kind of auction.
An unusual sort of auction, no sign of an auctioneer or the anxious crowd hoping to outwit each other when a preferred work of art is raised. Just people having a look around and eyeing their best picks at the Sogal auction at the Signature Gallery in Lagos.
These pieces have been carefully picked and it features some of the best African modern and contemporary artists and it’s not the first time this auction is taking place
Each work of art has a story one that needs to be told and the artists do the honours while the curators have displayed sculpture that capture icons and traditions to paintings that touch on ancient and modern themes
The paintings have a rush of colour depicting the continent as a people who are vibrant and full of life.
The secondary market in Nigeria is opening up, there might have been a little hitch but with government officials insisting that the country is getting out of recession, the numbers will probably be looking better for the auction houses in the country.
You can see the rich display of those pieces, especially the sculptural pieces.

Moremi Masters’ Arts Exhibition is the greatest show in the history of visual art sector in Nigeria in recent times. It is a moment when twenty-eight of Nigeria’s masters of the art are displaying at the Alexis Galleries in Lagos. Each of the masters cutting across all genres of the visual has been able to paint or sculpt the image of Queen Moremi of Ile-Ife, a virtuous woman who sacrificed her only son and indulged in other personal sacrifices to save her people. The project is Patty Chidiac Mastrogiannis contribution to the ongoing campaign begun by the Ooni of Ife , Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi to entrench the name of this quintessential Queen mother and what she did that was rare and still unparalleled in today’s world peopled by self-centred leaders and individuals.

Carolyn Newberger's Gallery Talk: What are we doing? Where are we going?
On June 8, 2014, at the Danforth Museum, Carolyn Newberger described the inspiration and process that gave rise to her award-winning work. An image of a child from a photo taken by her husband during their Peace Corps years in West Africa had haunted her for years. She painted a watercolor of the child, but not satisfied, put it in a drawer. She remembered this painting in the midst of creating a landscape collage, and, much as the child's story was embedded in a larger setting, she embedded the child into a layered image of painting remnants, wallpaper scraps, duct tape, supermarket bags, and charcoal drawing. Here, she describes the process of creating this piece, with its personal history, artistic evolution, and the dynamic conversation between the artist and her materials, provoking a lively discussion with a multicultural audience of artists and aficionados, including notables from Africa.

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II open travelling art exhibition of Moremi
The Founder and Director, Alexis Galleries, Patty Chidiac-Mastrogiannis who warmly welcomed the press said that the artists, made up of 27 men and a woman, will each present a work of art across the different medium to depict Moremi as they see her. In her characteristic sense of humour, she acknowledged the musical effort at revival the ideals of Moremi.
“I watched Moremi three times and I think I can act it,’’ she said. While responding to the questions from the press regarding the inclusion of only one female character in the line up of artists for the show, she expressed the desire to have more women on the show.
In the visual art scene, there is a dearth of full-time studio artists with long years of experience. But the focus for the gallery is to place Moremi delicately in the hands of masters.
“We are making history with artists whose names are already part of history,’’ she added. In his reaction to the number of female artists involved in this show, Sam Ovraiti noted that there was only one kind of Moremi in history. “We need the impact. It is not about the number”, he added.
