मैहर की माता शारदा देश का दिल कहलाने वाले मध्यप्रदेश में चित्रकूट के समीप सतना जिले की मैहर शहर में 600 फुट की ऊंचाई पर त्रिकुटा पहाड़ी पर मां दुर्गा के शारदीय रूप श्रद्धेय देवी माँ शारदा का मंदिर है, जो मैहर देवी मंदिर के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हैं। यह हिन्दुओं का महत्वपूर्ण धार्मिक एवं आस्थावान स्थान है। यहां श्रद्धालुजन माता का दर्शन कर उसी तरह पहुंचते हैं जैसे जम्मू में मां वैष्णो देवी का दर्शन करने जाते हैं। मां मैहर देवी के मंदिर तक पहुंचने के लिए लगभग हजार सीढ़ियां तय करनी पड़ती है। महा वीर आला-उदल को वरदान देने वाली मां शारदा देवी को पूरे देश में शारदा मा के नाम से जाना जाता है। यहां पर रोपवे बनने से अब श्रद्धालुओं को माता के दर्शन करने में आसानी हो गई है।

It is said that when lord Shiva was carrying the body of the dead mother goddess (Mai in Hindi) Sati, her necklace (har in Hindi) fell at this place and hence the name Maihar (Maihar = Mai+Har, meaning the necklace of mother).
there is also one fact about Maihar, that related to famous Warriors Alha and his brother Udal.
According to the locals of Maihar, the warriors Alha and Udal, regime under King Paramardideva Chandel who had war with Prithvi Raj Chauhan, were very strong followers of Sharda Devi. It is said that they are the first ones to visit the goddess in this remote forest. They called the mother goddess by the name Sharda Mai, and henceforth she became popular as Mata Sharda Mai. Alha worshiped for 12 years and got the amaratva with the blessings of Sharda Devi. Behind the temple and downhill is Alha Pond. At a distance of 2 km from this pond is situated an akhara (wrestling ring) where Alha and Udal used to practice kushti (wrestling). The people of Maihar believe that Alha is still alive and comes at 4:00 a.m. to worship the Goddess Sharda.

The title of the ruler is Maharaja and the present ruler is HH Maharaja Shrimant Saheb Akshay Raj Singh Ju deo Bahadur. The state had an area of 407 square miles (1,050 km2), and a population of 63,702 in 1901. The state, which was watered by the Tamsa River, consists mainly of alluvial soil covering sandstone, and is fertile except in the hilly district of the south. A large area was under forest, the produce of which provided a small export trade. The state suffered severely from famine in 1896–1897. Maihar became a station on the East Indian Railway (now the West Central Railway) line between Satna and Jabalpur, 97 miles (156 km) north of Jabalpur. Extensive ruins of shrines and other buildings surround the town.

Maa Sharda Devi Temple: Maihar is known for the Maa Sharda devi temple (around of 502 A.D.), situated at the top of Trikoota hill which is around 5 km from the railway station. There are 1,063 steps to reach the top of the hill. Along with stairs,there is ropeway for convenience of the pilgrims developed government authorities.
2. Gola Math Temple: This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This east facing Pancharathi temple is built in Nagara style and has been built during Kalchuri period (10th – 11th century A.D.). It is said that this temple was built in one fortnight only.
3.Some other attractions are BadiMai Temple, Oila Temple, Alha Temple, Bada Akhada Temple, Pannikhoh Falls and Caves, Alha lake .

This is one of the famous Hindu temple in India. This north indian temple is commonly known as Sharda Devi, and people living there (means localised) use to call this temple as Maihar Devi or Maa Sharda Mandir or Maihar Mata Mandir or Maihar Devi Mandir or Maihar ki Sharda Mata.
Maihar Devi Temple In Madhya Pradesh dotted with numerous holy sites dedicated to almost all the gods, goddesses and deities of Hindu religion, India is famed for providing much-looked-for respite from troubled self and rushed life of individuals. Inspired to take a pilgrimage gratifying their need to come under the refuge of God, they turn into devotees in one such place called as Maihar in Madhya Pradesh. Located in district of Satna, Maihar is a city associated with the Goddess Shakti, also known as Sharda Devi. On Trikut Hills, even 1063 steps to the hilltop to visit sculpture of Sharda Devi and Lord Narsingh do not stop pilgrims to consider the endurance and take the climb. Another mode of reaching the temple is ropeway. Developed in 2009, it facilitates the pilgrims short with vacation or restricted by physical ailments.
The temple has shrines for Lord Bala Ganapathi, Lord Muruga and Acharya Sri Sankara at right places as described above with a three time puja in accordance with the procedures followed in Sringeri main Mutt preaching the philosophy of Advaita in the foot steps of Acharya Adi Sankara. Indeed, this temple is a boon to those unable to visit Sringeri to have the darshan of Mother Sharadambika. Besides usual monthly important special pujas on such days as mentioned above, 10 day Navarathri festival is celebrated very devotionally commencing with Maha Abishek, followed by Laksharchana and Devi Mahatmiya Parayana for 4 days. On the Navami day (9th day) Chatha Chandi Yajna and Vidyaramba Pujas are conducted. Huge number of devotees brings their children for commencing their education. During the Navarathri festival days, Jaganmatha Sharadambika appears in alluring alankaras as Brahmmi, Maheswari, Gaumari, Vaishnavi, Indrani, Chamundeeswari and Gajalakshmi. Mother also comes in procession in the golden rath.

There are 1,063 steps to reach the top of the hill. Along with stairs,there is ropeway for convenience of the pilgrims developed government authorities.
Gola Math Temple: This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This east facing Pancharathi temple is built in Nagara style and has been built during Kalchuri period (10th – 11th century A.D.). It is said that this temple was built in one fortnight only.
Some other attractions are BadiMai Temple, Oila Temple, Alha Temple, Bada Akhada Temple, Pannikhoh Falls and Caves, Purva Falls.

सतना जिले के मैहर में बड़ी तादाद में भक्त मां शारदा के दर्शन के लिए पहुंच रहे हैं। मैहर पहाड़ी के नीचे दूल्हा देव का मंदिर है जहां शराब का भोग चढ़ाने की परंपरा है। शराब का भोग लगाकर भक्त उसे प्रसाद की तरह ग्रहण भी करते हैं। ये परंपरा कब और किसने शुरू की इसकी किसी को जानकारी नहीं लेकिन भक्त उसका पालन सालों से कर रहे हैं।
