John's Alaska Day 11 Part 2: Tok and Fairbanks
June 21, 2011, Day 11 Part 2
Woke up kind of late this morning, around 7 am. It rained all night so I wasn't sure if it was going to be safe to head up the top of the world highway and cross into Alaska.
The other two KLR riders from California also were awake and we chatted while we all packed up our gear. I had the fire going in the wood stove which took away the chill.

Chicken, Alaska
This footage shows Slim Williams and John Logan on their trek to create awareness and promote construction of a highway connecting Alaska to the Lower 48 United States. In this scene, Slim and John relax in the small town of Chicken, Alaska near the U.S.-Canada border (B&W/Silent/16mm film).

Alaska Highway
The Alaska Highway (also known as the Alaskan Highway, Alaska-Canadian Highway, or ALCAN Highway) was constructed during World War II for the purpose of connecting the contiguous United States to Alaska through Canada. It begins at the junction with several Canadian highways in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and runs to Delta Junction, Alaska, via Whitehorse, Yukon. Completed in 1942 at a length of approximately 1,700 miles (2,700 km), as of 2012 it is 1,387 mi (2,232 km) long. The difference in distance is due to constant reconstruction of the highway, which has rerouted and straightened out numerous sections. The highway was opened to the public in 1948. Legendary over many decades for being a rough, challenging drive, the highway is now paved over its entire length.
An informal system of historic mileposts developed over the years to denote major stopping points; Delta Junction, at the end of the highway, makes reference to its location at Historic Milepost 1422. It is at this point that the Alaska Highway meets the Richardson Highway, which continues 96 mi (155 km) to the city of Fairbanks. This is often regarded, though unofficially, as the northern portion of the Alaska Highway, with Fairbanks at Historic Milepost 1520. Mileposts on this stretch of highway are measured from Valdez, rather than the Alaska Highway. The Alaska Highway is popularly (but unofficially) considered part of the Pan-American Highway, which extends south (despite its discontinuity in Panama) to Argentina.

Ice Bridging and Cold Weather Survival In Alaska
Alaska National Guardsmen from the 207th Engineer Utilities Detachment conducted training on ice bridging at Walden Lake on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in January 2015. The training also incorporated arctic mobility with snow shoeing and cold weather survival skills taught by an Alaska Air National Guard 176th Wing Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape or SERE instructor.

OUR STORY | HOW THE FREEDOM THEORY CAME TO BE
WATCH FROM THE BEGINNING |
We live in a 33 foot fifth wheel tiny home camper that we are currently traveling the USA in! It is an alternative lifestyle we find that it brings us the most freedom. Living in a RV full time was never something we planned to do. Instead we jumped right into it. In a matter of 30 days. We bought a RV and the following day bought a truck to tow with!

FINALLY IN ALASKA | CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH MAMA MOOSE | LIARD HOT SPRINGS S2 || Ep 23
We leave Jasper shocked at the beauty of the Canadian Rockies and Muncho Lake on our way to Liard Hot Springs. Muncho Lake was quickly added to our bucket list of places to explore by boat!
The campground at Liard Hot Springs was filled, but we got a spot at the overflow lot across the street and didn’t waste any time getting down to the water for our first dip in a hot spring. Liard didn’t disappoint. The water was beautiful and we made plans to get up early and try to get the place all to ourselves the next morning.
We headed out to the hot spring at 5:30am on the morning of our 17th wedding anniversary! We were greeted by a mama and baby moose on our hike down the boardwalk to the spring. The place was empty and we enjoyed the whole spring to ourselves for a good hour. Such cool anniversary gift!
We said goodbye to Liard and headed to check out the Sign Post Forest in Watson Lake. We wove through the maze of signs from all over the world and learned about the fun history of this place. We put up the sign that Lily made for us that morning and headed off toward Whitehorse for our last night in Canada!
The next day, we finally cross the border into ALASKA!!! Of course, it was only fitting that we find a car wash in Tok and stop for the night overlooking an incredible volcano! Alaska sure knows how to give a heartfelt welcome!
Stay tuned for next week’s episode where we head to Anchorage to get work done on the truck and then to Homer to volunteer on an off-the-grid farm! Thanks for watching! Don’t forget to like and subscribe and click on the bell icon for notifications when we release new videos!

The Pilgrimage, Boston to Anchorage 2017, Day 21
The Pilgrimage, Boston to Anchorage 2017, Day 21
If there is a true motorcycle pilgrimage, then riding to Alaska is it. You cannot go any further north in the continental United States then trekking to the Great White North. During June and July of 2017, I embarked on this the ride of a life-time, traveling from Boston, MA to Anchorage, AK and back.
On day 21, we rode from Tok, AK to Whitehorse in the Yukon. More great scenery and of course some construction along the way. We camped at the Robert Service campgrounds, which is a nice spot, but also busy with a lot of activity going on well after what would be our bed time. I had another tough night of sleeping and was pretty beat the next day.

Planning ALASKA RV Road Trip, Canada BORDER Crossing & GAS Prices
This week I travel through the Canada Border in the Sweet Grass Montana border crossing into Alberta Canada on my Alaska RV Road Trip. RVing to Alaska felt like a headache when thinking of planning and all the stuff I needed to do to prepare, especially solo rving as a solo female. I used to plan a lot, but not so much anymore. I picked up the Milepost book that shows all the things to do and resources at every milepost in Canada and Alaska on the way up. I'm taking the eastern route through Alberta since I started traveling north from Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hi, I'm Amber and in May 2017 I started this nomadic journey after selling my house and all my belongings to pursue this crazy dream of living out of my RV full-time and traveling all around North America.
After 1 year of traveling, I sold my 26 foot Winnebago Class C RV for a more nimble Class B Hymer Aktiv van. I couldn't have been more excited to continue my second year in a van that allows me to travel to more places and experience more in life.

HAARP opens its doors to the public, but some minds prove hard to change
HAARP has an image problem that's proving hard to shake. Short for High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program, HAARP has been the subject of conspiracy theories ever since the U.S. military started building it in the early 1990s.
HAARP has a number of scientific instruments on its campus, but the one that continues to capture the imagination of conspiracy theorists is the Ionospheric Research Instrument (IRI), the world's most powerful high-frequency radio transmitter.

After leaving Grand Cache, we basically just had to put in some miles as we headed north toward Pink Mountain, BC. Once there, we had to find somewhere to stay for the night, as I did not book ahead for this section. We were going to camp, however the campgrounds available did not look very nice online and they did not good reviews. Fortunately, at Pink Mountain we found the Buffalo Inn. The Inn had a restaurant and great bar area, so I took advantage while Peter and Steven decided to camp in the back.
