When this recording was made the organ was in need of restoration, which has since taken place. The organ by Forster and Andrews was commissioned for the church in 1864 and has undergone very little alteration since that time.
This project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund recorded programmes of music on 44 historic organs in East Anglia for a permanent online archive accessible through the National Pipe Organ Register (NPOR). Sherborne is a market town and civil parish in north west Dorset, in South West England. Sherborne is sited on the River Yeo, on the edge of the Blackmore Vale, 6 miles east of Yeovil. The A30 road, which connects London to Penzance, runs through the town.
Sherborne's historic buildings include Sherborne Abbey, its manor house, independent schools, and two castles: the ruins of a 12th-century fortified palace and the 16th-century mansion known as Sherborne Castle built by Sir Walter Raleigh. Much of the old town, including the abbey and many medieval and Georgian buildings, is built from distinctive ochre-coloured ham stone. The town is served by Sherborne railway station.
In 1594 Sir Walter Raleigh built an Elizabethan mansion in the grounds of the old palace, today known as Sherborne Castle. Sherborne became home to Yorkshireman, Captain Christopher Levett who came to the West Country as His Majesty's Woodward of Somersetshire, and who remained in Sherborne when he turned to a career as a naval captain and early explorer of New England.
Sherborne was made the capital of Wessex, one of the seven Saxon kingdoms of England, and King Alfred's elder brothers King Ethelbert and King Ethelbald are buried in the abbey. In 705 the diocese was split between Sherborne and Winchester, and King Ine founded an abbey for St Aldhelm, the first bishop of Sherborne. In 933, King Æthelstan granted land at Sherborne to the nuns of Shaftesbury Abbey under the condition that they would recite the Psalter once a year on All Saints' day and say prayers for the king.
Other notable historic buildings in the town include the almshouses of saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist, founded in 1438 and expanded in the Victorian era in indistinguishable medieval style architecture; the conduit, hospice of St Julian, and Lord Digby school, now known as Sherborne House (designed by Benjamin Bastard). Sherborne House, famed for its mural by Sir James Thornhill.

Me playing the organ at All Saint's Church in Ilkley, West Yorkshire.
The organ was originally built in 1882 by Lewis of Brixton, London to which further work was done in 1903. By the 1940s, the organ was in need of work but as a result of world war two this did not happen until 1953 when the John Compton Organ Company Ltd completely rebuilt and enlarged the organ. Electric action and detached drawstop console (which still features the original Compton flat head draw stops) were provided as well as new ranks of pipes including the Compton patent 32ft polyphonic bass on the pedal. Most of the original Lewis pipework was incorporated in the rebuild. The specification reads:

For this video I am playing the hymn 'Meet and right it is to sing' to the tune 'Amsterdam' from the Methodist hymn book 'Hymns and Psalms' which makes use of the main registrations used for accompanying congregational hymn singing.

Ernest W. Shurtleff, 1888, wrote this hymn for the graduation ceremony at Andover Theological Seminary, where he was a member of the class of 1888.

Chairman John Polak received the award from the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire at an award ceremony on the Gratton on Tuesday 11th September 2018.

I was surprised and really pleased to find this arrangement of The Agincourt Song in a Presbyterian Hymnal ... The tune name is Deo Gracias and is based on the E. Power Biggs arrangement of the Agincourt Hymn This arrangement is by Richard Proulx.
