All Saints Church

All Saints Church - Bakewell, Derbyshire

The local parish church for the village of Bakewell, Derbyshire. The church was founded in 920, during Saxon times and the churchyard has two 9th century Saxon crosses. During restoration work, in the 1840s, many carved fragments of Saxon stonework were found in and around the porch, as well as some ancient stone coffins.

During the winter months, Britain is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time and 10 hours behind Sydney. Western standard time is five hours behind.

From late March until late October, the clocks go forward one hour to British Summer Time (BST).

A+ go to Bakewell

A+ English went on a school trip to Bakewell one Saturday. We fed lots of ducks, had a walk around the town, saw two very old bridges (dating from the 16th c.), tried to visit Thornbridge brewery (but unfortunately it's closed on Saturdays!) and ate lunch in the Bakewell Pudding shop. We completely failed to eat the famous Bakewell pudding, though, as we were all too full! After lunch, we went to the 12th c. All Saints Church on top of the hill and saw the font that was made in the 14th c. We ended the day in the pub with some good Bakewell beer. A fun day out was had by all!
