Places to see in ( Deganwy - UK )
Deganwy is a small town in Conwy County Borough in Wales with a population of 3,936. It lies in the Creuddyn Peninsula alongside Llandudno and Rhos-on-Sea. Historically part of Caernarfonshire, it is in a more English-speaking region of north Wales, with only 1 in 4 residents speaking Welsh as a first language. It is located south of Llandudno and to the east of Conwy, which is on the opposite side of the River Conwy, and with which it forms the Conwy community.
Indeed, the name Deganwy has been interpreted in modern times as Din-Gonwy, which would mean Fort on the River Conwy, but the historical spellings make it impossible for this to be the actual origin of the name although mentioned in Domesday Book is the territory of the Decanae tribe. The original wooden castle was rebuilt in stone after 1210. Deganwy is in the ecclesiastical parish of Llanrhos, and has a Victorian era Gothic parish church dedicated to All Saints.
Deganwy's most notable feature is Deganwy Castle, situated 110 m above the town, which, in the 6th century was fortified as the stronghold of Maelgwn Gwynedd, king of Gwynedd. Deganwy appears to have been the capital of Gwynedd at this time, but this was later moved to Aberffraw on Anglesey. The hill on which the castle was built was fortified many times over the centuries. It was the site of a Norman castle built around 1082 and occupied by Robert of Rhuddlan, and later by Llywelyn the Great and Llywelyn ap Gruffudd. The castle was later demolished by Edward I when Conwy Castle was built opposite so that only ruins remain today.
Deganwy has a railway station on the Llandudno branch line with an hourly train service, available on request, to and from Manchester Piccadilly and intermediate stations. The LNWR built at Deganwy a rail connected riverside quay and wharfs, largely for the purpose of exporting slate by coastal steamer. The slate was brought by rail from Blaenau Ffestiniog. A marina with its accompanying housing and hotel accommodation was established on the site of the former slate wharfs early in the 21st century.

The first clip shows a Thames Trains Class 165 'Turbo' DMU (still in Network SouthEast livery) travelling east over the crossing working a Bristol Temple Meads to Oxford service. The second clip shows an eastbound Great Western InterCity 125 HST (both power cars have their original Paxman Valenta engines) on a service from Paddington to Bristol or South Wales.
At this time Causeway level crossing at Steventon was operated by a member of railway staff located on site in the box shown on the right of the first clip. In 2012 the crossing was modernised and it is now operated remotely from Swindon.

Steventon is a village and civil parish in Oxfordshire, England, about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Abingdon and a similar distance west of Didcot. Located west of the A34 Milton Interchange it was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred to Oxfordshire.
The village has a medieval causeway. Built by local monks in the Middle Ages, it runs the whole length of the village along its historic East--West axis. The causeway ends near the Church of England parish church of Saint Michael and All Angels, built in the 14th century by the Flemings. The Great Western Railway opened Steventon railway station in 1840. It was the main station for Oxford, 10 miles (16 km) to the north, until in 1844 the line form Didcot to Oxford was opened. Steventon station continued to serve the village until British Railways closed it 1964.
Steventon has three public houses: the Cherry Tree, The Fox and the North Star, which is the oldest of the three. Both The Fox and North Star have Aunt Sally pitches and regularly enter teams into the Abingdon & District Aunt Sally League. The annual music festival, the Truck Festival, is held at Steventon each July. The village green has a cricket pitch and the Steventon Sports and Social Club which also plays Aunt Sally. Steventon also has a large village hall near the village green where many activities take place, for example, line dancing, dog shows, the village pantomime (every two years), ballet and the choral society. Steventon has one main shop, the Co-op, and still maintains a working bakery.

3D Reconstructed Medieval French Cathedral Of Cyprus - Lusignan Dynasty
Original archaeological reconstruction with superior rendering of High Medieval Cathedral, Saint Nicholas, built circa 1200’s AD in Famagusta, Cyprus. Modern Cypriots being ancestrally a synthesis of all the peoples whom occupied the island, reflected here in their French Lusignan (Frankish) heritage of the Middle Ages – the Lusignan dynasty colonised Cyprus from 1192 to 1489AD. The most significant archaeological remnants through material-culture of this particular period and peoples on the island is of this great Gothic cathedral, later converted into a Mosque (Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque) following the Ottoman conquest (1571ad). Now largely in ruins, I hope to show the viewer this monument in its former glory, emulating the early Gothic architectural style of Medieval France including characteristic flying buttresses (typical of crusader architecture) whilst accurately depicting its proportions to scale. The surrounding medieval sea-shore city of Famagusta has also been included reflecting the stone-masonry type dwellings of the era. The flags of Lusignan Dynasty Kings of Cyprus and Jerusalem (Quarterly, 1 and 4 in silver, a cross of gold, between four crosses of the same and 2 and 3 barry silver and azure eight rooms, a lion gules armed langued and crowned with gold stitching on the whole) has been included in the interior of the structure flying from two columns. The later Ottoman Minaret additions have been omitted from the original plan. This structure was said to have been modelled on Reim's Cathedral, France. WELCOME - ARCHAEO RECONSTRUCTIONS” is a channel depicting all original 3D archaeological reconstructions, art/design and animation, whilst interpreting their significance both symbolically and functionally. Purely functional expression of human material-culture extends as far back as 3.4 million ybp, yet the emergence of human symbolic culture is as recent as circa 100,000ybp (first evidence in 'Blombos Cave'). Symbolic intention within material-culture allows one to appreciate how artefacts have/continue to act as cognitive 'Material-Anchors' in the tangible conceptualization and transmission of abstract ideas, an evolutionary extension of the human mind. Diachronic works spanning all mankind are notable.
