Tour around All Saints Church in Newcastle upon Tyne.
All Saints in Newcastle upon Tyne is normally shut to the public, having closed in 1959. This year it was added to the roster of properties available as part of the Heritage Open Days project, and visitors were able to finally see inside!
I've put together this video of still photos, facts and video exploration for those unable to visit the church on its open day.
For more information on the church, you can check out my blog post at

All saints church and old church jesmond cemeteries
All Saints Cemetery
This Cemetery stands on Jesmond Road, opposite Jesmond Old Cemetery. When it opened in 1857 this was very much a rural part of Newcastle. The residential housing surrounding the cemetery on 3 sides were built later.
Noted Newcastle architect Benjamin Green designed the cemetery, its buildings and the fine Gothic archway over the entrance from Jesmond Road.
In 1924 Carliol Square Gaol was demolished and the bodies of its executed criminals were transferred into unmarked graves in the cemetery.
In total around 90,000 burials have taken place here.
Jesmond Old Cemetery is a Victorian cemetery in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, founded in 1834. It contains two Grade II listed buildings and seven Grade II listed monuments as well as the graves of dozens of notable people from the history of Tyneside.

Bethshan Pentecostal Church Newcastle upon Tyne circa 1968
A few years ago I found an old tape and on it were some recordings I made way back in 1968 of singing at Bethshan. Songs include those sung by the Bethshan Ladies Quartet, Mens Trio, Mr and Mrs Scurfield, Alex Sidey from Wallsend Assembly. Also, there is some church singing from gospel services, including the Bethshan Hallelujah chorus, I Need Thee Oh I Know It (led in his own inimitable style by Pastor Harrison) and even a short solo by John Rowling as he leads 'Whosoever will my come'. The photos are some of the epitome of Bethshan youth male and female pulchritude as well as a photo of the open air group down at the Quayside and a photo taken of the senior gentlemen of the Church. I hope this brings back many happy memories from an important time in my own life.
