•Fully documented history
There is no replacement for displacement. Muscle car owners may have said it in the 1960s, but it was true 60 years earlier, when roads were growing ever better, cars grew ever larger and ever faster. With engine technology limited by the times, the power demanded by aristocratic automobilists was achieved through increasing engine size, until the finest luxury cars often boasted powerplants in excess of 600 cubic inches, churning chain or shaft drives that spun wide wooden wheels through the dirt roads leading to and from their owner's country spreads.
The automobilist seeking such a car in 1909 would certainly have considered the Austin Model 60, the flagship of the Austin Automobile Company, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, the manufacturers of strictly high grade pleasure cars. What had begun in 1903 as a vanity project to keep lumberman James Austin's gearhead son Walter busy, eventually became the builders of over-engineered cars that were as grand as they were expensive. By the time of its folding in 1920, a victim of the post-World War I recession, Austin had pioneered such innovations as two-speed rear axles and V-12 power.
The Model 60 was the ultimate Austin. Its massive 141-inch wheelbase chassis supported an F-head inline six of immense proportions, displacing nearly 800 cubic inches and churning out 90 throbbing horsepower at a time when other fine American cars such as Packard and Peerless produced only half that. This engine was equipped with fully pressurized lubrication, and the engine turned smoothly on seven massive bearings.
In its day, the Model 60's exclusivity was ensured by price. Today, it is ensured by solitude: the car offered here is the only Model 60 Austin in existence today. It is a showstopper, which is appropriate, as this car sat on the floor of the 1909 Chicago Auto Show.
Among those who saw the car at the show was Charles Herbst, a gentleman of means from Lima, Ohio, a prosperous manufacturing town in Allen County, near the Lincoln Highway. The gentleman had traveled to Chicago to collect his new car and had paid Walter Austin $5,000 (the catalogue price) for the Model 60. The new Austin was driven out of Chicago and onward to its new home in Lima, where its owner and his family maintained it in excellent, fully operational condition for the next 38 years.
When the family parted with the car in 1946, the buyer was Barney Pollard. An enthusiast of Brass Era cars needs no introduction to Pollard, the Detroit trucking baron who was among the United States' earliest true car collectors. Pollard hungered for big, old cars at a time when they were considered outdated scrapyard fodder, and his passionate collecting saved literally hundreds of today's finest brass beauties from extinction.
While many of his cars were quite literally stacked in warehouses, where they remained for decades, Pollard maintained the Austin very much as he bought it, as an excellent, complete, original car that was in fine running condition. He took advantage of its speed and power, and he exercised it on the 1947 and 1953 Glidden Tours. Later, after industrialist Frederick Crawford opened his automotive museum in Cleveland, Ohio, the Austin became an exhibit, on loan from Pollard, and it was enjoyed there by the public for 30 years.
The Pollard family finally elected to part with their beloved Austin in 1983. After many negotiations, it was turned over to its present owner, only its third caretaker since new, who retrieved the Austin from the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum and has cared for and treasured it ever since.
While the owner elected to restore the car about a decade ago, it is important to note that prior to the restoration, it had never really been apart, and unlike many other brass cars that have been extensively rebuilt from remnants dragged out of muddy junkyards, this one has always been cared for in over a century of ownership. It retains not only its original engine, frame, and body, but essentially every original part, large and small, with which it was delivered in 1909. That includes all of the original wood (with the exception of the dashboard), the original wheels, and even the original pistons. Body and interior work was done by Amish craftsmen to their legendary standards.

Piglets and Frogs at Hazeldene Farm
After an exciting 24 hours the frogs are still humming away in the pond and basking in the sun keeping watch over their frog spawn.
Meanwhile up on the hillstop Ben the Daddy Pig celebrates the birth of his 11 piglets with a snuffle in the mud. Mrs Piggy Wig is having a rest while Brian the piglet has a little wander around the nursery and try his first wee wee standing up.
It's the spring equinox and this weekend the farm will be open to visitors. So come on down and enjoy seeing the pigs in their natural surroundings, have a wander down to the pond and see the frogs before they leave (only a few days left), and there are activities to do like painting ceramics with artypantsceramics in the barn, and the vintage tea room is now open for a selection of tea, cakes, and quiche and salad. The farm shop will also be open all weekend.

Historic Wagner Farm
Wagner Farm stands as one of the few remaining farms in north suburban Cook County, Illinois. It sits on 18.6 acres of land, surrounded by suburban homes and major roadways. Though engulfed by a 21st century landscape, the site holds a history of Glenview that not many other museums can attest to. The Wagner family owned and lived on the property until the death of Rose Wagner in 1997.
The site itself is not exclusively tied to any prominent historical figures nor does it have any uniquely aesthetic features. What it does have is representation, a living picture of a time not very long ago, when a family lived a common farm life despite the changing landscape surrounding them. Because of this unique history, Wagner Farm is a site dedicated to providing educational opportunities and historical interpretation of family farming and rural life in the Glenview area during the first part of the 20th century.
In addition to the cows in the pasture, Wagner Farm has chickens, draft horses, and pigs as well as a restored farmhouse and barn and the award-winning Wagner Farm Heritage Center. The Heritage Center contains interactive exhibits where you can learn about farming from the early 20th century through the present, shop through history at our 1930s Grocery Store or purchase a souvenir of your visit from our Museum Store.
If your kids think that milk comes in a carton, corn comes in a can and chicken comes in a cellophane wrapped package, it's time for a visit to Wagner Farm . . .

See how a manure lagoon works and why farmers want to build even more of them
If you buy a house on the 9 million acres of agricultural districts in New York state, you sign a disclosure form that says the farmers near you have the right to farm even when it causes noise, dust and odors.
Still, when a farmer decides to build a lagoon to store millions of gallons of liquid manure, the neighbors are often disappointed to find out they have little say in the matter. They can also be shocked to hear that government sometimes requires manure storage and even helps pay for it.
Since 1994, 461 manure storages have been built with state financial help, according to the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets. Others are privately or federally funded.
The Right to Farm is a state law that protects 25,316 farms on 6.5 million of those 9-million acres of agricultural districts. The rest of that land is occupied by people who do not farm.
Dan Palladino, president of the Onondaga County Farm Bureau, encourages farmers to be proactive and share their plans even when it isn't required.
We have to all work together, Palladino said. If we're in an agricultural district, we have to understand what the farmer needs to do and we have to understand what the public needs and what we can do to help them.
Mike McMahon, of McMahon's EZ Acres in Homer, allowed us to fly a drone over the lagoon on his dairy farm and explained how it was designed.
McMahon, other farmers and government officials say storage is the best practice to protect the environment from runoff.
Storage allows farmers to spread manure on fields on only the best days – when the soil is dry and less likely to run off of wet and frozen ground into lakes and streams.
What kinds of lagoons are built in New York state?
Before a lagoon is built, farmers test the make-up and quality of the soil to understand the geology of the site, said Mark Burger, executive director of the Onondaga County Soil and Water Conservation District.
If the soil can support an earthen lagoon, it can be dug into the ground and lined with clay, he said. Some earthen lagoons are also reinforced with concrete bottoms or walls.
If the soil does not support an earthen lagoon, farmers can use a plastic product called octaform. It has a series of hollow, plastic rectangular chambers filled with concrete. That type of storage is also easy to cover to keep out rain or to digest methane gas for energy.
Farmers also consider the type of bedding they use when they choose the type of material to use in lagoon construction, he said. The bedding goes into the lagoon along with the manure.
For example, if the animals bed on sand, farmers like to build a concrete floor to make it easier to capture the sand and use it on the soil, he said.
Soil and water conservation districts help small farms implement official environmental management plans, which address manure storage and other issues, state officials said.
Large industrial farms are regulated through a CAFO (concentrated animal feeding operation) permit, which requires a comprehensive nutrient management plan that takes into account the farm's slopes, nearby waterways, soil erosion potential, farmstead facilities and nutrient sources.
Engineers must also work within USDA standards and must be able to divert surface groundwater and contain the precipitation that falls into the storage.
You've got highly trained professionals out there, taking these corings or these trenchings and analyzing the soil and the geology to make that determination, he said. It's not just you and I going out there to do it.
How many times have they leaked?
There have been three manure storage overflows and one leak in the last five years in the Central New York region, which generally covers Oswego to Broome counties, according to the DEC.
The latest incident is still under investigation. In February, a structural issue with a lagoon forced farmers to spread manure on snow on an unusually warm winter day. The snow melted, causing manure to flow into Cayuga Lake.
In 2013, manure overflowed into a small tributary from a storage at Ashland Farms, in Cayuga County. The DEC issued a $3,000 fine and the farm was required to increase the size of the storage.
EFS Farm, in Madison County, was assessed a $750 penalty after an overflow in 2013. The manure ponded in a field and did not reach surface water, according to the DEC.
O'Hare Dairy II, in Chenango County, had an overflow in 2011 that did reach surface water. The DEC assessed a $1,750 penalty and required repairs and an emergency action plan.

Michigan Antique Festival's Got Talent Live - Paris Primeau
My daughter Paris Primeau performed for her first time at the 1st Michigan Antique Festival's Got Talent Contest June 5 2010.
Unfortunately the set up for voting was really set up for you to bring everyone you know to vote for you cause they only had 1 judge and he was only to pick 5 contestants of the top 10 to perform the next day for the 1000.00 prize family and friends were to vote for you and the top 5 with the most audience votes made it into the top 10.
We only had 4 of us to vote :) so those that came with 15-20 family and friends had an upper hand even if they didn't sound good or do well. However it was an experience and many came up to her and said she did a great job and sounded good so good learning and stage experience as this was her first public singing experience.
and last but not least my dear husband Stacy Primeau on the 12 string guitar he is awesome he learned both these songs in a few days time they both looked good together.

Huge Classic Car Junkyard - Wrecked Vintage Muscle Cars
This is a tribute to one of the largest and best classic car junkyards in the world, Bob's Auto Parts in Fostoria, Michigan. At one time this yard had well over 1,200 antique and classic cars. Sadly in 2008 the owner Bob Zimmerman died. There were several auctions to sell off all the parts and cars, but sadly only about 300 cars were saved and the rest were crushed. :(
