Allen Bill Winter Day Trip Kananaskis | Journey Alberta
I head into Kananaskis to the Allen Bill Day Use Area (previously the Allen Bill Pond as I still refer to it in the video) in the Elbow Valley with my girlfriend for a day of relaxing. We start a fire in at one of the many picnic spots, and roast up some perogies and hot dogs. Despite there being a bunch of snow at this day use area still, the temperature was quite mild and when the sun was out I didn't even need a jacket. One of the great things about coming out to a day use area is that they are so accessable to people. My girlfriend broke her ankle in February and hasn't been able to join me on hikes, so this trip was a great oppotunity for her to get out of the house ad enjoy nature.

Calgary to Bragg Creek, Alberta - Summer - Timelapse
Getting into the foothills, this highway and further west of Bragg Creek has some nice windy roads to drive, just on the edge of the Rocky Mountains.
Calgary (/ˈkælɡəri, -ɡri/ (About this sound listen)) is a city in the Canadian province of Alberta. It is situated at the confluence of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province, in an area of foothills and prairie, about 80 km (50 mi) east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. The city anchors the south end of what Statistics Canada defines as the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor.[13]
The city had a population of 1,239,220 in 2016, making it Alberta's largest city and Canada's third-largest municipality.[7] Also in 2016, Calgary had a metropolitan population of 1,392,609, making it the fourth-largest census metropolitan area (CMA) in Canada.[9]
The economy of Calgary includes activity in the energy, financial services, film and television, transportation and logistics, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, health and wellness, retail, and tourism sectors.[14] The Calgary CMA is home to the second-highest number of corporate head offices in Canada among the country's 800 largest corporations.[15]
In 1988, Calgary became the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympic Games, followed in 2010 by Vancouver.
Bragg Creek is a hamlet in southern Alberta under the jurisdiction of Rocky View County[2] in Division No. 6. It is also recognized as a designated place by Statistics Canada.[3]
Bragg Creek is located 30 km (19 mi) west of Calgary (via Highway 8 and Highway 22) at the confluence of the Elbow River and Bragg Creek. It is located north of the intersection of Highway 66 and Highway 22.

Allen Bill Pond Destruction After the 2013 flooding
Here is what happened to Allen Bill Pond after the 2013 flooding. It is completely gone now, just part of the river.
Exploring the Elbow Valley, Kananaskis | Journey Alberta
I decided to go on a Spontaneous day trip out to the Elbow Valley in Kananaskis. There I first went to Elbow Falls, just off of highway 66 and about 20 km from Bragg Creek. I had a fire there first, cooking up a couple hot dogs for myself. After that I made my way down the path to the waterfall. There is a good path that winds around the falls area, giving you views from all angles. I managed to get pretty close to the falls! Fun fact, this exact spot was used in the Season 5 Episode 6 of the television show Hell On Wheels. After exploring the falls, I headed back towards Bragg Creek, and stopped at what remains of Allen Bill Pond. The pond was mostly destroyed during the 2013 flood that affected the area all the way from Bragg Creek to Calgary to Canmore. A lot of the rocks seen in this part of the video was not there previously, and was brought there by the flood. I walked around by the river, then did a bit of flint-napping to create a makeshift spear. It wasn't the best quality, but was fun to make nonetheless.

Bragg Creek Visit - 2017
Take a tour of Bragg Creek to see what it it's like to live. work and play here. We live hidden in the forested foothills of the Rocky Mountains, 40 minutes west of Calgary, Alberta. The community has an interesting history, influenced by the Elbow River and the wild lands that surround us, providing a venue for outdoor adventure that sustains us and those who come to visit.
A collaborative approach to managing Alberta fisheries
The Eastern Slopes of the Alberta Rockies is home to the Bull trout and other species like west slope cutthroat Athabasca Rainbow trout and Grayling.
For years the province has regulated a catch and release policy to help these fish populations recover from a threatened status.
After 15-years, the results of these efforts are not encouraging. Fish populations in these rivers and streams have continued to decline.

This video is captured on the approach to 2,341 m (7,680 ft) Rickert's Pass from the Mist Creek Trail just before the junction with the Mist Ridge Trail. Featured are Storm Ridge connecting Mist Ridge to massive Mist Mountain on the other side of the valley. Mist Mountain peaks at 3,138 m (10,297 ft). Our approach has been a 10 KM (6.3 mile) hike through the forest parallel to Mist Creek in the bottom of the valley. The other side of Rickert's Pass drops aggressively to Burn's Mine and the trail continues to historic Denning's Cabin.

Elbow Falls Waterfall Bragg Creek Alberta Canada
This Video is filmed in 4K UHD of the Elbow Falls Waterfall in Bragg Creek Alberta, filmed from the air with a drone.
This video is different in that it includes low level passes over the falls and rock formations. The low level passes are approx 3 feet off the surface and create some stunning views that will simulate what it would be like to float down this river.
This is an updated version of the following video filmed last year:
