Aln Valley Railway 6th July 2019
A visit in the morning of the first day of the '1940s Steam Weekend' as the site was slowly waking up. The service train was formed of an ex-NCB 0-6-0ST propelling two MKI coaches, the leading one of which had a 'driving position' equipped with, radio, horn and brake valve. Well worth a visit any day but especially on a Gala Day as the site was really starting to buzz a short while after these shots were taken :)

Aln Valley Railway - 'Branch End 50' Steam Gala - Lionheart Station, Alnwick - 5th May 2018
'The Brand End 50' Steam Gala was held at The Aln Valley Railway near Alnmouth in Northumberlad between 5th & 7th May 2018 to mark the 50th anniversay of the branch line from Alnwick to Alnmouth closing in 1968. The line is now being rebuilt over the majority of the original route from a new station at Lionheart not far from the original location at Alnwick to Alnmouth station about 3 miles away. Nearly a mile of the three mile track has now been re-laid.
In this video we see Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0T 'Richboro' and Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0ST No.60 working the train on the section of track that has been laid out of Lionheart station.
Well done to all volunteers and staff at the railway for a very enjoyable event today..
Please feel free to comment on the video and many thanks for watching. Allan.
Alnwick Lionheart Railway Station, Aln Valley Railway
The Aln Valley Railway have built Lionheart Station on the outskirts of Alnwick on the route of the old branchline to Alnmouth, its intended destination. In 2013 the station was officially opened by the Duke of Northumberland.

ALN VALLEY RAILWAY
THE ALN VALLEY RAILWAY was conceived to link the town of Alnwick in Northumberland with the coastal village of Alnmouth.
Many enthusiasts worked to make the project happen. In July 2012 they held an open day to show the public just what had been achieved, and showcase the fantastic work and effort that has gone into this Railway Project.

I didn't meant to shoot a video at the Aln Valley Railway's Steam Day yesterday, it just became a thing as the day progressed. If you're in the area next time there is a steam day I'd highly recommend it. You'll have fun!

A visit to the Aln Valley Railway at Alnwick on the way south to holiday. Thanks to a railway colleague, we were allowed a cab ride on one of the trips. Look forward to the line being extended towards Alnmouth station & meeting the ECML.

Aln Valley Railway: First train for 45 years to leave the town
The Aln Valley Railway held its official opening day today 30th October 2013 and ran several brake van rides for the invited guests. A splendid day, the railway is a credit to its volunteers. The driver on the first two trips Mr K Middlemiss was a fireman on the line prior to closure in the 1960's.

A short tour of the site where Lionheart Station will stand, with possibly the first departure captured on video from Platform 1! Lucy the Land Rover is the traction & takes us right up to where the new track will join the old trackbed.
The End of Steam at Alnwick - 1966
The train we saw being prepared at Alnwick in our previous clip is seen arriving at and then being shunted at Alnwick station, terminus of the short branch from Alnmouth on the ECML. The locomotive is a Peppercorn-designed class K1 ordered by the LNER but built after nationalisation by British Railways. Another line, from Cornhill (later renamed Coldstream), joined the branch just beyond this station which was the second one built in the town and boasted a splendid overall roof. Both the new station and the Cornhill line opened on 5th September 1887 but the Cornhill/Coldstream line lost its passenger service as early as 1930 and was severed in the dreadful storms of 1948, the southern part, from Alnwick to Ilderton, closing to all traffic in 1953. The Aln Valley Railway Trust is currently making progress in its aims of reopening the Alnwick to Alnmouth line, albeit to a new station south of the A1 at Alnwick.
