Most Epic Maui Whale Watch EVER - part 2
Check out this close-up humpback whale watching encounter just off the shores of west Maui! Often referred to as a whale ‘mugging,’ these two guys were extremely fortunate to get the whale watch of a lifetime as they prepared to go scuba diving:
Filmed off of the coast of west Maui’s Lahaina Town, this video was captured from a 10 foot zodiac boat on an iPhone and a GoPro and is one of the closest encounters we’ve ever seen on film!
If you plan to travel to Maui, Hawaii, from the period of mid December to mid May, you’re just in time to witness the Aloha State’s favorite time of year: whale season. The 5th largest species of whale in the world, these majestic humpbacks make their annual journey from the shores of Alaska to Hawaii each year in order to mate, give birth and nurse their young in the warm, shallow waters surrounding Hawaii. On Maui in particular, humpback whales particularly seem to love the shallow and protected Au’au Channel, which lies conveniently between west Maui and our neighbor island of Lanai.
While chasing after humpbacks is strictly prohibited, it’s a truly memorable experience when they take the time to approach you instead! You can see these stunning creatures during whale season on Maui on one of many popular whale watching tours, whether by boat with Kai Kanani and Redline Rafting or by outrigger canoe, stand up paddleboard or kayak with Hawaiian Paddle Sports and Maui Kayak Adventures. Additionally, you’re often even lucky enough to spot them from shore while lounging at the beach! Just remember to always pull over, park and get out of your car if the sudden urge to whale watch while driving hits.
When viewing them from the water, you may even get lucky enough to hear the males as they sing, and witness the many playful behaviors they exhibit on the surface of the water, including fluke up and down dives, blowing, pec and tail slapping, spy hopping, head slapping and breaching.
Truly an unforgettable experience in Maui, we recommend whale season for new and return visitors to The Valley Isle. Aloha!
Swimming With Seaturtles | Makena Landing | Maui Hawaii
One of the highlights of this years trip to Maui was swimming with Sea Turtles. On our first trip to Maui 20 years ago we did see a couple off of Molokini but the were a bit farther away we didn't get pictures or videos. Nearly as soon as we got in we saw the first one and in the 45 mins of our snorkel adventure we saw 5 turtles, 2 of which were swimming very close with us. We ended the day with a MaiTai at Life's a Beach and then watched the sunset from the park in Kihei.

10 mi, 2 hr, blue water outrigger paddle from Maliko Bay, Maui with Kimokeo Kapahulehua
The tranquil departure from Maliko Bay on the north shore of Maui did not portend the next 2 hours and 10 hours of blue water paddlding with Kimokeo Kapahulehua. Capsized five times by half way and lost water bottle at mile 1; thus no rehydration for the entire paddle.Kimokeo has sequentially paddled the length of the Hawaiian archipeligo which is the equivalent of New Orleans to Las Vegas. Physically and mentally accomplishing this feat at the age of 63 was a New Year's Resolution. Mahalo to Kimokeo for helping make it happen. Definitely satisfies my bucket list. May 2012
Places to see in ( Maui - USA ) Kihei
Places to see in ( Maui - USA ) Kihei
Kīhei is a census-designated place in Maui County, Hawaiʻi, United States. The population was 20,881 at the 2010 census. Although its official city designation is Wailuku, the Kīhei Junction Park and Ride lot is a frequently-used commuter parking lot at the corner of highway 310 (North Kihei Road) and highway 30 (Honoapi'ilani Highway). There is no public bus service that stops here; however, it is located near Ma 'alaea Harbor Village, where there is a public transportation stop. It's primarily used for hikers, bicyclists and ride sharers looking for a meeting place that is centrally located between Kīhei, Lahaina and Wailuku. There's no charge to park; the lot is unattended.
Kihei is beach-combing territory on Maui’s southwest shore, the sunniest, driest end of the island. Once a regular destination for sojourning Hawaiian royalty, Kihei features 6 miles of beaches offering clear views of Kahoolawe, Molokini, Lanai and West Maui. Along with swimming and surfing, you can also find great snorkeling and kayaking — and you may even spot a giant humpback whale spouting or breaching the ocean’s surface.
Kihei’s Kalama Beach Park’s 36 oceanfront acres are dotted with shady lawns and palm trees. The park is home to “the Cove” surf spot, beach volleyball courts, a roller-skating rink, a skate park, basketball and tennis courts, two baseball fields, picnic pavilions and a playground designed for younger kids.
A blink away are Kalpolepo, Waipuilani and the three beaches of Kamaole. Birdwatchers and nature lovers will find what they’re looking for at Kealia Pond on the north end of Kihei. This National Wildlife Conservation District features endangered Hawaiian stilts and coots.
Also north of Kihei is Maalaea Bay, where pleasure boats launch to take visitors on whale watching expeditions, charter fishing excursions and snorkel trips to Molokini. Maalaea is also home to the family friendly Maui Ocean Center.
The town has a collection of affordable accommodations, with condominiums, small hotels and cottages to choose from along Kihei’s beach road. You can also browse small shopping malls, a bustling farmers market and a spate of restaurants, all of which cater to residents and visitors alike. Nightlife here includes karaoke spots, dance clubs and sports bars ensuring your Kihei nights are just as fun as your days.
Several research facilities are located in Kihei, including the main offices for the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, seed operations by DEKALB Genetics Corporation and Monsanto Company, and the Maui Research and Technology Park, which is home to the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC), and the Pacific Disaster Center and is overseen by the Air Force Maui Optical and Supercomputing observatory (AMOS).
Major employers in Kihei include Safeway, Monsanto, the Hawai'i Department of Education, the Kihei Canoe Club, Keller Williams Realty Maui, Goodfellow Bros., Fred's Mexican Cafe, and NextHome Pacific Properties.

Blue Hawaiian Helicopters - Kohala Waterfall, Big Island of Hawaii
Blue Hawaiian Helicopters
The waterfalls along the Kohala sea cliffs are stunning. This can be seen on an air tour from the Waikoloa Heliport.
THE BLUE HAWAIIAN DIFFERENCE There's simply no argument: Blue Hawaiian is Hawaii's #1 helicopter tour company. Blue Hawaiian's aircraft maintenance technicians have received the FAA's coveted Certificate of Excellence, Diamond Award every year since 1998. No other helicopter tour company in Hawaii has ever received this critical recognition. Blue Hawaiian was honored by the FAA for its record 12th straight year in January, 2009, at a ceremony in Honolulu, and the FAA further honored Blue Hawaiian with the very first Certificate of Excellence, Platinum Award. And Blue Hawaiian is the only helicopter tour company in Hawaii certified by the Department of Defense.
Welcome to the Blue Skies of Hawaii. Blue is the only helicopter tour company serving all four major Hawaiian islands: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. That means wherever you go in the Islands of Aloha, you know exactly how to get the world's finest aerial tours: just remember the color of the sky.
We don't just operate the best equipment, we help develop it. From the ultra-quiet, spacious, and powerful 21st-century Eco-Star helicopter to the breakthrough Garmin G500H technology, which gives our pilots astonishing three-dimensional synthetic vision terrain awareness in less than optimal weather; from our pioneering of multi-camera in-flight video, to designing vastly improved cockpit air-conditioning—Blue Hawaiian is always at the forefront of leading-edge innovations for your safety, comfort, and enjoyment. Because when it comes to our guests, good enough is never enough.
The finest pilots in the sky. Blue Hawaiian prides itself on hand-picking only the finest and most experienced pilots—the absolute cream of the profession—and every one of them is a State of Hawaii Certified Tour Guide. Blue Hawaiian is also the only helicopter tour company in Hawaii with its own state-of-the-art Flight Simulator, and the only one that puts its pilots through annual factory and FAA recurrent training.
