A mountain coaster or alpine coaster is a type of roller coaster with bobsled-like cars on tracks installed on a mountain. It is similar to alpine slides where a low-wheeled sled is used to navigate the track, but instead of running over smooth concave tracks like the alpine slide, alpine coasters run on rails with up-stop wheels like traditional roller coasters. Thus, an alpine coaster isn't necessarily safer due to the jerky movements the cart makes as it navigates its way on a fixed track. Alpine coasters are undoubtedly slower than an alpine slide since alpine coasters have speed regulated carts that prevent a rider from experiencing the track at full speed. Tracks are usually tubular rails, like a steel roller coaster, while some have monorail-type tracks. Unlike a traditional roller coaster, the rider has the capability to control the car's speed with its rider-controlled brake system. Alpine coasters can also operate year-round, even through light rain and snow.Safety features, speed, tracks and layout vary by manufacturer. Leading makers of mountain coasters include ADG , Wiegand , Brandauer , Alpine Products , and Erbschloe Fun Construct .As of 2007, the longest alpine coaster in the world is Tobotronc at Naturlandia, in the Pyrenees of Andorra. It is 5.3 km long. The highest alpine coaster in the world is the Alpine Coaster of Glacier 3000 in Gstaad, Switzerland with the starting elevation of 9,747 feet and a length of 3,300 feet .

This is a thrilling mountain coaster (alpine coaster) in Imst, Austria.
I shoot this footage with a GoPro Hero 5 on a chest mount.
And of course i put some drone shots in the clip (DJI Mavic Pro).

Altitude summit station: 1.500 m
Altitude difference: 500 m
Highest point: 6 m above ground

The start of the speedy ride is directly next to the mid-terminal of Imster Bergbahnen lift at an altitude of 1,500m. After just a few moments you’ll encounter the first surprises: Bumps, steep turns and unexpected twists await breathless riders. It gets even wilder: Especially the “jumps” with a drop of up to 6 meters are quite challenging!

Exactly 3,535-m pure excitement awaits those who take the Alpine Coaster Imst down into the valley. That makes the Alpine roller coaster on rails not only the longest of its kind, but the curves, waves and jumps make sure that this nine-minute long ride is a breathtaking adventure for the entire family.

Imst Alpine Coaster - High Speed Pursuit

When I rode this Austrian Alpine Coaster it was the longest in the World. My first ride took 5 minutes but I tried on my next ride to see if it was possible to complete it faster than 5 minutes. After 3 minutes all was going well until we caught up to my friend Chris...so for the final 2 minutes we chased him in a high-speed alpine coaster pursuit. Please forgive the screams and over-excitement at the beginning of the ride...but at full speed some of those corners and bumps in the track are a little scary!

Riding an Alpine Coaster in Imst (Austria Travel Vlog)

Innsbruck day 4

What an amazing day! We headed to Imst and took the cable car up to the mountain. When we got there we took a long hike up into the mountains and got to see some amazing views of the area. Then we headed to the Alpine Coaster. IT WAS AMAZING! You sat in a small coaster seat and zipped down the track. You got to control your own speed and it lasted around 9 min. Well worth the money!

Der Start zum rasanten Vergnügen liegt direkt bei der Mittelstation auf 1.500 m. Schon nach wenigen Metern gibt’s die ersten Überraschungen: Wellen, Steilkurven und rasante Wegbiegungen warten auf den atemlosen Fahrgast. And the Krimml Waterfalls (Krimmler Wasserfälle), with a total height of 380 metres, are the highest waterfall in Austria. The falls are on the Krimmler Ache river and are located near the village of Krimml in the High Tauern National Park in Salzburg state.

Trip 09.06. bis 13.06.2018 – Part 3/8: Auf dem Weg in die Area 47 haben wir noch einen Zwischenstopp bei der längsten Alpen-Achterbahn der Welt in Imst, Tirol/Österreich gemacht. Leider war es dermaßen voll, dass wir auf der Strecke teilweise anhalten mussten, bzw. auch nicht in gewollter Geschwindigkeit fahren konnten. Die Achterbahn ist insgesamt 3.535m lang, die Höhendifferenz beträgt 500m, höchste Stelle 10m über dem Boden.

Alpine Coaster Imst

Ein Ausflug zum Alpine Coaster Imst, dem längsten der Welt! Die Aufnahmen wurden mit verschiedenen Kameras gemacht, daher gibt es Qualitätsunterschiede. Ich hoffe, das Video macht Euch Spaß, der Alpine Coaster ist die Anreise auf jeden Fall wert: Kein Vergleich zu üblichen Sommerrodelbahnen. Und achtet darauf, nicht so eine lahme Ente vor Euch zu haben wie ich in diesem Video.

A visit to the Alpine Coaster in Imst, Austria, including a full-length POV from the ride. Unfortunately, when I shot the video, an annoyingly slow woman crept along the track before me. The kids from Switzerland behind me didn't understand that I stopped from time to time in order to be able to at least drive quickly for a few meters, so I had to compromise as good as possible. Enjoy!
