Episode 53
By Andru McCracken
AM: Welcome to Episode 52 of Valemount LIVE. I'm Anne Marie Scott.
JN: And I'm Jody Newham.
AM: Welcome to the program.
JN: WE have an incredible show for you tonight Valemount.
AM: It is replete with useful information.
JN: Packed to the gills with great journalism
AM: So overwhelming, so dense...
JN: ...you will wonder where your time has gone and how you can get it back.
AM: Unfortunately, it's not very funny.
JN: It's not funny at all.
AM: So let's begin at the beginning.
JN: Some of you may have noticed we had some technical difficulties earlier this week..
AM: In fact VCTV's regular programming was off the air for much of Tuesday and Wednesday.
JN: Turns out a chinese refuge with a mask had snuck inside our computer.
AM: He was pretending to be an older white guy.
JN: I mean why would anyone want to pose as a white dude? Where's the benefit?
AM: As if there's some advantage to being an old white guy...
JN: It's like, sexist and racist at the same time.
AM: Well he's currently being detained by immigration Canada,
JN: It's a good reminder not to take off my mask when I go to the washroom.
AM: Jody, I've told you this before. Never take off your mask!
JN: Hold on to your hats valemount, because later in the program Valemount LIVE's Executive producer Andru McCracken is going to present his Christmas revitalization plan.
AM: We also have these stories:
JN: Exchange students
AM: What does the X stand for and what do they change?
JN: The food bank.
AM: What is it, and do they offer currency exchange?
JN: Also we're talking about the resurgence of Curling in VAlemount
AM: There calling it a sport now. (kindly)
JN: And what is our little jail house crafter making this week?
AM: Incarcerated Craft correspondent Zachary Schneider is breaking rock.
JN: Ooh, I love mosaics.
AM: No, Zach is actually breaking rock.
JN: Oh boy.
O O ZACHARY WALLET FOOTAGE (no audio) Talkover this
AM: Turns out last week, Zachary didn't actually have scissor privileges. So now he's turning big rocks into small rocks.
JN: It's a learning experience.
AM: Next week on Jail Crafts Zach will make a lava lamp.
JN: Why?
AM: Well the warden.... ahh... it's a long story.
JN: Let's begin
AM: Let's start with the food bank.
JN: According to Dorothy and Len Jones, the food bank is looking for donations to make up 37 Christmas hampers this year. Reporter Andru McCracken spent some time with Dorothy and Len.
FOODBANK
AM: Food donations can be made at the bank.
JN: Financial contributions and turkey bucks can be dropped off at the grocery store.
AM: And if you'd like to help out. Call Dorothy or Len at 566-4858.
JN: They need people with strong backs.
AM: We've all heard about foreigners coming to Valemount.
JN: Now they're in our schools.
AM: This week we're profiling two of the exchange students currently studying at the Valemount Secondary School.
JN: First up is Ben from New Zealand.
O O 53 XCHANGE BEN
AM: It's got to be hard to travel with a name like Bean.
JN: But Bean isn't the only foreigner in our midst.
AM: Here's an interview with Marcus of Sweden.
O O 53 XCHANGE MARCUS
JN: Seems like these kids are enjoying themselves.
AM: Let's keep tabs on them and see if they get home sick.
JN: Our neighbours to the south may not agree, but some people call Curling a sport.
AM: If it wasn't before, it is now, because we're showing you some curling highlights with electric guitar in the background.
JN: Last year the VAlemount Curling Club suffered very low turnout and basically didn't run a program.
AM: This year the interest is phenomenal.
JN: We spoke to Teressa Colosimo about the surge in interest, while she was showing some ESL students how to play.
O O CURLING
AM: Excellent curling. I guess.
JN: Standby Valemount, because we've got an editorial coming up from economist correspondent that could change Christmas forever.
O O STANDBY
Good evening Valemount. The world economy is in tough shape. Many countries are on the verge of financial meltdowns with untold consequences. Unemployment is skyrocketing. Even the Irish are suffering and they're always lucky. This calls for extreme action. The economy doesn't just need stimulation, it needs de-fibrillation. tough because we can't find the economy's heart I've got the answer.
We've got to sell something to get our economy going again. I believe it's time to sell Christmas.
O O STANDBY
JN: Well that could work.
AM: Sure.
JN: That's all we have for tonight folks.
AM: Remember to get your tickets for the Valemount Arts And Cultural Raffle.
Both: Raffle of the Century.
JN: Win a trip from VIA Rail
AM: Cold fire Creek Dog Sleding
JN: Alpine Country rentals
