Today we are biking part of a famous New Zealand cycle trail, the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail! We’re doing the section between Lake Ohau and Omarama so join us for a stunning day out on the Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail!
Alps 2 Ocean New Zealand is a 300km cycle journey between Mt Cook and Oamaru. We rent some electric mountain bikes from Cycle Journeys New Zealand and hit the trail for a 36km section.

Experience an unspoilt paradise where people come from all over the world to enjoy stunning vistas, wide open spaces and expansive landscapes. There is huge diversity on this trail, the Alps 2 Ocean trail encompasses a World Heritage National Park, glacial fed lakes, hydro dam lakes, golden tussock land, limestone cliffs, Maori Rock art and much more.
Suitable for all abilities of cyclists, this trail includes a mixture of off and on road trail, which can be enjoyed in sections or in its entirety. Average fitness is recommended to ride the entire trail.
Cycling the Alps 2 Ocean Trail - New Zealand South Island
The world-famous Alps 2 Ocean trail is New Zealand’s longest continuous cycle trail. Starting from the Southern Alps it leads you on a journey through the South Island’s spectacular scenery to the historic coastal town of Oamaru. The cycle trail is divided into 9 sections - and it's pretty stunning!
