Places to see in ( Garmisch Partenkirchen - Germany ) Alpspitz
The Alpspitze is a mountain, 2,628 m, in Bavaria, Germany. Its pyramidal peak is the symbol of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and is one of the best known and most attractive mountains of the Northern Limestone Alps. It is made predominantly of Wetterstein limestone from the Upper Triassic.
Several klettersteigs run up the Alpspitze. The shortest ascent starts at the valley station of Osterfelderkopf (2,033 m) on the Alpspitze Cable Car from Garmisch-Partenkirchen. From the Osterfelderkopf the Alpspitze may be climbed either directly along the Alpspitz-Ferrata, an easy, mostly protected and much frequented klettersteig (ca. 2 hours from the Osterfelderkopf) or the summit may be reached on the North Face Climb (Nordwandsteig), which runs in a curve to the east into the Oberkar cirque and from there along the left-hand edge of the cirque to the top.
Another ascent runs from the col of Grießkarscharte (2,460 m), which is reached either from the Höllentalanger Hut in the Höllental valley via the cirque of Mathaisenkar (involving a klettersteig) or from the lake of Stuibensee via the Grießkar cirque.
The popular route from the Alpspitze via the arete of Jubiläumsgrat to the Zugspitze is a long and difficult climbing tour, which involves UIAA grade III sections.
The summit cross was erected in 1946 by Richard Weber and Kaspar Jocher together with the Roman Catholic Kolpingsfamilie of Garmisch. On the 25th and 50th anniversary of its installation a commemorative plaque was fixed to the cross. At its base is the 'AlpspiX Viewing Platform', 2 curved metal walkways reaching out 13 metres (42 feet) over a cliff, crossing over each other, making the shape of an X.

We took the Alpspitz cable car to near the top of the Alpspitz mountain. The view of Alpspitz, Garmisch, the Zugspitz, and hiking trails was fantastic.
This was part of our two-week R&R from deployment in Iraq, meeting my family in Germany for some great adventures!

Places to see in ( Garmisch Partenkirchen - Germany ) Aussichtsplattform AlpspiX
The AlpspiX is a viewing platform made of steel , which is attached at about 2050 m altitude at the Osterfelderkopf , a 2057 m high side summit of the Alpspitze . The walk-in, free-floating arms of the AlpspiX are laid out with gratings and clear the view into the approximately 1000 meter deep depth of the Höllental . The construction is located about 20 meters above the mountain station of the Alpspitzbahn and has been open to the public since the inauguration on 4 July 2010.
The AlpspiX consists of two 24-meter-long steel arms that cantilever out about 13 meters above the rock in the Höllental, the ground is transparent through the grid ; At the end there is a slanted glass panel at the end of the path to allow a panoramic view when not very dirty . The name is a neologism from the components Alpspitze and X, because of the crossed, but overlying arms an X-like construction is created.
While the Zugspitzbahn designation of the construction as attractiveness, the covenant nature protection against the AlpspiX, because he blemishes the beauty of the mountain world. The German Alpine Association points out that the experience of the mountains and not the tourist attraction alone should be in the foreground. In the opinion of the German Alpine Association, municipalities and tourism managers should develop more up-to-date offers for those seeking relaxation, families, hikers and mountaineers that meet the growing needs for authenticity, authenticity and closeness to nature. As an example of such contemporary offers, the association calls the creation of thematic trails .

Places to see in ( Garmisch Partenkirchen - Germany ) Ludwigstrasse
Places to see in ( Garmisch Partenkirchen - Germany ) Ludwigstrasse
The Ludwigstraße in Partenkirchen is a street in the historic district in the Upper Bavarian market Garmisch-Partenkirchen . The eastern part of Ludwigstraße is an ensemble based on the Denkmalschutzgesetz of October 1, 1973. The Ludwigstraße runs from the Rathausplatz in the northeast to Sebastianskircherl and then kinks at right angles to the southeast with the historic Ludwigstraße to the Mittenwalder road.
The ensemble comprises the relatively narrow market street of Partenkirchen, which runs along the old highway from Murnau to Mittenwald and follows the course of the Roman road from Brenner to Augsburg . The place already gained importance in the 13th century as a market and court of the freising county Werdenfels . Its picturesque Alt- Werdenfelser street scene was extinguished by great fires in 1811 and 1865, only the Old House (Ludwigstraße 8) and the Wackerlehaus (Ludwigstraße 47) are still evidence of the older buildings. The ensemble is thus a monument to the reconstruction of the 19th century.
In the northwestern so-called lower market, which is bounded by the freestanding Sebastian chapel, which rises above the Roman castrum Parthanum, a series of relatively similar farmhouses built after 1811 determines the streetscape. It concerns massive plastered gabled buildings with gable-sided Mittertenne, which for fire protection reasons on frets and z. T. even on roof overhangs do without in favor of masonry advance gables.
The facades of mostly built after 1865, originally in the sense of Maximilian style quite sober farmhouses and inns in the middle of the Ludwigstraße and in the so-called Upper Market, mainly two- to three-storey plastered gabled houses with medium-sized roofs, since the early 20. Century mostly in the sense of the home style has been designed by murals, oriels, jibs, stucco, so that the street scene of the Maximilian era is already repressed by an alpine image, as it expects the tourism. The murals by Heinrich Bickel made notable contributions. However, poorly designed new buildings also affect this character, which is characterized by its home-style. Unchanged only manifests the neo-Gothic, towering on a terrace and dominating the street parish church of the Assumption by Matthias Berger the style of the period after 1865.

Garmisch Classic & Partnach Gorge Hike (Garmisch-Partenkirchen)
One of the main hikes when purchasing the Garmisch-Classic Ticket. Trail hike from Alpspitze & Alpspix to the Partnachklamm Gorge. The Alpspix Platform extends 3000 feet (ca. 914 m) above the valley, pretty scary as it is slightly tilted downwards. Followed by a hike down from Hochalm Talstation through the Partnachklamm (Partnach Gorge) back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
It's a really easy 2.5 hours with stops, from Hochalm to Kreuzeck Station there is a small narrow trail to the right. The last call to enter the Gorge is around 5-530pm this way. Start this hike at 1200 lunchtime and you should have plenty of time to complete it. The alternative route isn't as narrow but leads to all the restaurants. There is a girl working at the Alpspitze mountain station from Oregon - she can point you the right away on the big map. If she's not there the other staff probably speaks enough English to help with planning.

A tandem paragliding flight in GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, GERMANY - Jumping off a mountain!
This past summer I went for a tandem paragliding flight in the Alpine mountains of the southern German town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany. I had been wanting to do this for a while! I booked my flight with Fly Garmisch, a family-run company. I met my guide Tobias at the base of the Alpspitzbahn and took the cable car up to the Alpspitze. From there, we got ready to jump off the mountain for the flight.
The flight itself wasn't as scary as I thought it would be, but I did get really nauseous - something I didn't expect!

Zugspitze:
To the Zugspitze by train from Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Travel Germany
How to get to the Zugspitze? From Garmisch-Partenkirchen and from Grainau you can use Zugspitzbahn - a special train to the Zugspitze. Ticket price - 53€ per person (Round-trip) Approx time: 1h from Garmish). If you have a Bayern ticket you can get a discount - 10%.
The Zugspitze, at 2,962m above sea level, is the highest peak of the Wetterstein Mountains as well as the highest mountain in Germany. It lies south of the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the Austria–Germany border runs over its western summit. South of the mountain is the Zugspitzplatt, a high karst plateau with numerous caves. On the flanks of the Zugspitze are three glaciers, including the two largest in Germany: the Northern Schneeferner with an area of 30.7 hectares and the Höllentalferner with an area of 24.7 hectares. The third is the Southern Schneeferner which covers 8.4 hectares.
The Zugspitze was first climbed on 27 August 1820 by Josef Naus, his survey assistant, Maier, and mountain guide, Johann Georg Tauschl. Today there are three normal routes to the summit: one from the Höllental valley to the northeast; another out of the Reintal valley to the southeast; and the third from the west over the Austrian Cirque (Österreichische Schneekar). One of the best known ridge routes in the Eastern Alps runs along the knife-edged Jubilee Ridge (Jubiläumsgrat) to the summit, linking the Zugspitze, the Hochblassen and the Alpspitze. For mountaineers there is plenty of nearby accommodation. On the western summit of the Zugspitze itself is the Münchner Haus and on the western slopes is the Wiener-Neustädter Hut.
