Alta Museum, Alta Norway. Cruise visit to the Northern Lights
You may never get this far north again, and even if it is snow-covered, so all the outside stones are covered, the Alta museum in #Alta North #Norway is a treat and the view amazing. It is easy on the 140 public bus. It is the etchings and rocks, carvings and paintings made between 1800 to 6200 years ago that lead it to be voted the best museum in Northern Europe. Inside you can make your own etching and email it! All explained along with Sami history up close and personal inside.

Alta (Norway) - Best Places to Travel
Alta is a town in Alta Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The town is the administrative centre of the municipality and it is located on the southern end of the Altafjorden, at the mouth of the river Altaelva. There are several suburbs around the town. Kåfjord, Kvenvik, and Jiepmaluokta lie to the west; Øvre Alta and Tverrelvdalen lie to the south; and Rafsbotn lies to the east. The famous rock carvings at Alta lie just to the west of the town.
The town of Alta has three churches: the historic Alta Church in Bossekop, the relatively new Elvebakken Church in Elvebakken, and the Northern Lights Cathedral (the new main church for the municipality that was completed in 2013). Alta is also an educational centre in Finnmark county. Finnmark University College is based in Alta as well as the local primary and secondary schools, including Alta videregående skole. Alta District Court is based in the town, serving the municipalities of Loppa and Alta. Alta IF is the main sports team for the town

Alta Norway
Alta, the largest town in the thinly populated county of Finnmark, lies at the head of the Altafjord on the banks of the Alta, the best known salmon river in Norway. It has direct air connections with Oslo and is on the main coast road (E 6). Its economic importance lies in the educational field , with two technical colleges (fishing and fish-processing; mining).
Although the town lies in latitude 70° north it has a mild inland climate which offers excellent conditions for agriculture and forestry. The midnight sun can be seen here from May 16 to July 26, and between November 24 and January 18 the sun is not visible at all. The clear skies around Alta make it an ideal location for studying the aurora borealis.
