Mongolia, Nature by Nomads | Travel to Mongolia | Mongolia Video Guide |
Mongolia is known among travelers as the land of nomads, birthplace of the Great king Genghis Khan and of many histories, dating all the way back to Paleolithic Age. It is home to hospitable, gracious herders who cherish their land, animals and culture in all its natural beauty.
In today’s fast changing world, Mongolia is considered as one of the few travel destinations and a place designed for travellers and adventure seekers that can offer beautiful unspoiled nature, endless steppes, massive ranging mountains, crystal clear lakes, parched conditions of the Gobi and interested in exploring the nomadic culture and unrivalled hospitality which have been kept for centuries.

National Forest Inventory in Mongolia
The German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) commissioned the German International Development Cooperation (GIZ) to implement the “REDD+ National Forest Inventory in Mongolia” Project. The project is being implemented in the Central and Northern parts of Mongolia. The project supports the Mongolian Ministry of Environment, Green Development and Tourism in applying technical and political models with corresponding reporting system for implementation of sustainable and climate change oriented forest management.

Sprawled across the mountain system where Russia, Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia come together is a vast and pristine wild land, the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion, a distinct territory defined by natural processes rather than political ones. Its borders are ecological, and its provinces are interconnected habitats.
Tusker is one of a handful of companies that trek the entire length of the Altai Tavn Bogd National Park, which occupies the Mongolian part of the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion.
During our trek, which you can do on foot or on horseback, we traverse many of the rivers, and camp every night on either the banks of these rivers or the shores of the lakes fed by them.
The Khovd River, which has its genesis in the glaciers of Mongolia's Altai Tavn Bogd Mountains, flows into the Great Lakes Basin, a depression with no outlet whose lush wetlands comprise the last great reed beds of central Asia.
On this unique trek, you experience the wilderness of Mongolia, and wilderness at it's finest, in all of its raw, pristine beauty.

While trekking through Mongolia's tough terrain, it's imperative that we use the absolute best tents available. For sleeping we use Eureka's 4-season K2XT all-weather tent. We have tested these tents under the harshest conditions, and they stand up to all the punishment we can muster.
Our dining tents also are built to the same tough standards, and sit 16 of us in comfortable chairs around large camp tables. That is if we're not dining al fresco, in the open air.

Going to Extremes - Mongolian Gobi Desert
The Gobi is a large desert region in Asia. It covers parts of northern and northwestern China, and of southern Mongolia. The desert basins of the Gobi are bounded by the Altai Mountains and the grasslands and steppes of Mongolia on the north, by the Hexi Corridor and Tibetan Plateau to the southwest, and by the North China Plain to the southeast. The Gobi is most notable in history as part of the great Mongol Empire, and as the location of several important cities along the Silk Road.
The Gobi is made up of several distinct ecological and geographic regions based on variations in climate and topography. One is the Eastern Gobi desert steppe ecoregion, a palearctic ecoregion in the deserts and xeric shrublands biome, home to the Bactrian camel and various other animals. It is a rain shadow desert formed by the Himalaya range blocking rain-carrying clouds from the Indian Ocean from reaching the Gobi territory.

Travel Highlights: Mongolia
Following my time on the Trans-Siberian Railway I got off in Mongolia, where I spent just over 2 weeks. The majority of time in Mongolia was spent travelling around, staying with nomadic families trying to completely immerse myself into their lifestyle. I absolutely loved the place, the scenery was so beautiful and Mongolian people are easily the friendliest people I've met!
Hope you enjoy!
