BftA Awards 2012: Seaton Group, Best Entrepreneurial Partnership
Nominated by Headwaters Arts
Brothers Jordan and Jeremy Grant are the owners of The Seaton Group, a real estate development business that operates in small towns around the Greater Toronto Area. In the early 1990s, they inherited a deteriorating knitting mill built in the 1880s in the Caledon area. Rather than demolish this architectural gem, they envisioned a plan to convert the mill into an arts and heritage centre. Joining forces with local arts organization Headwaters Arts, and with funding from the Ontario and federal government, they created the Alton Mill Arts Centre, a vibrant artists' hub that houses galleries, art shows, studio space and a community of established and emerging artists. The partnership between Seaton Group and Headwaters Arts has not only benefited the Alton Mills Arts Centre and Headwaters Arts, but the Town of Caledon and surrounding region, local businesses and tourism.

003 Alton Pinnacle Loop - Caledon Hikes
Hi everyone, one of my goals for 2019 is to get out more, lose weight, get into better shape and start pleinair painting (it just means painting in the great outdoors).
Last week I purchased a book titled 'Caledon Hikes - Loops and Lattes' by Nicola Ross. I will be hiking at least once a week one of the 37 loops and creating a short 2-3 min video of my journey. I will revist my favorite loops in 2020 for some pleinair fun.
Loop # 3, Alton Pinnacle Loop, 2.7 KM 45-60 mins, Level 2 Moderate
My journey started great and then the climb up to the Pinnacle happened :(
It's about 485 meters above sea level, one of Caledon's highest points.
What a view, I soon forgot my aches and pains (yes I am so out of shape) and enjoyed the wonderful view while sitting on a well placed rock.
Going on thru fantasy type forest and trees I came to a stone table, which reminded me of the Stone Altar in C.S. Lewis's The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. I'm calling it Aslan's Table from now on.
Soon I came to a large open field with tons of Monarch Butterflies and Hawks flying overhead as I took in the beautiful farmland view.
Next thru the Maples and replanted forest to the Mill Croft Inn. Well groomed lands with beautiful buildings, I went to the Mill and enjoyed the architecture of Arched walls and flowing waters.
You will experience the 'Old World' Charm behind high hedges, across main street is the start of the 'New World' that is coming.
Alton Mill pond was a treat to see, then back to Altonmills Art Centre seeing Glen's work shed was a welcomed site.
A quick visit to the see the Phenom Art show at the Art Center, seeing Volunteers John Adams (Landscape Artist) and Vickie (3D Artist) made my loop complete.
I learned how out of shape I am, but the peacefulness of nature and getaway from the stressful of our world to spend time in God's Creation did my soul good.
This was how I protested climate change, enjoying our world that we need to preserve as good stewards of our only planet Earth.
This was my first of many hikes yet to come.
Enjoy your weekend everyone.
Alton Mill Fire & Ice Festival 2017
The 2017 Fire & Ice Festival was our most successful public event yet, despite the unseasonably warm and foggy weather. The pond hockey tournament had to shift to the ball hockey back-up plan and pond curling was cancelled, but all else was able to proceed as planned, including the kids' super snow slide, ice and fire sculptures, indoor art activities and seasonal food and drinks.
