The Mayan ruins of Altun Ha explained by our Belizean guide
Jenivieve Lamby was our most excellent guide for the start of our tour at the Mayan ruins of Altun Ha in Belize! Altun Ha is the name an ancient Maya city in Belize, located in the Belize District about 50 kilometres (30 miles) north of Belize City and about 10 kilometres (6 miles) west of the Caribbean Sea. The site covers an area of about 8 square kilometres (5 square miles) but did not come to the attention of archeologists until 1963.
Altun Ha was occupied from about B.C. 900 to A.D. 1000. Most of the information on Altun Ha comes from the Classic Period from about A.D. 400 to A.D. 900, when the city was at its largest.

Altun Ha is the name given to the ruins of an ancient Mayan city in Belize, located in the Belize District about 50 kilometres (31 mi) north of Belize City and about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) west of the shore of the Caribbean Sea. The site covers an area of about 8 square kilometres (3.1 sq mi). The largest of Altun Ha's temple-pyramids, the Temple of the Masonry Altars {The Temple of the Sun God}, is 16 metres (52 ft) high. A drawing of this structure is the logo of Belize's leading brand of beer, Belikin.
Belize City is the largest city in Belize and was once the capital of the former British Honduras. According to the 2010 census, Belize City has a population of 57,169 people in 16,162 households.[3] It is located at the mouth of the Haulover Creek, which is a tributary of the Belize River.

Belize - Altun Ha Mayan Ruins and Wildlife on the Old Belize River
This was a cruise excursion from Belize City that visited the Mayan Temple Ruins at Altun Ha, then took a boat ride down the Old Belize River where we saw crocodiles, iguanas, howler monkeys, bats, birds, dolphins and other wildlife. Our tour guide said Belize is unBELIZEable, and it really is!
Altun Ha & The Olde Belize River
A tender transfer to Belize City and an enjoyable boat ride take you several miles inland by way of the scenic Olde Belize River. En route you may see iguanas, several varieties of birds, crocodiles and howler monkeys. At Burrell Boom, a quaint settlement on the riverbank, you'll be served a tasty local lunch with refreshments at The Olde River Tavern, located on the banks of the Olde Belize River. You'll then board your tour bus and drive to Altun Ha (Mayan for 'Rock Stone Water'), where Dr. David Pendergast of the Royal Ontario Museum uncovered the famous jade head Kinich Ahau.

Altun Ha is the second city of Maya ruins which we visited in Belize. We took a tour through the museum then explored the ruins. Gorgeous weather, bright green grasses, and lots of dancing made it a great day. Enjoy!

Altun Ha is the name given ruins of an ancient Maya city in Belize, located in the Belize District about 30 miles (50 km) north of Belize City and about 6 miles (10 km) west of the shore of the Caribbean Sea.
The site covers an area of about 5 miles (8 km) square. The ruins of the ancient structures had their stones reused for residential construction of the agricultural village of Rockstone Pond in modern times, but the ancient site did not come to the attention of archeologists until 1963. The Old Northern Highway connects Altun Ha to Belize's Northern Highway, and the site is accessible for tourism. The largest of Altun Ha's temple-pyramids, the Temple of the Masonry Altars, is 54 feet (16 m) high. - Wikipedia

A steeped in history shore excursion took us to the ruins in Belize, the Mayan ruins in Belize. A one hour drive on a shore excursion on our Carnival cruise in April 2014 by the Western Caribbean we reached as complex. There we visited the beautiful ancient Mayan temple and climbed around on ancient history. The video shows some impressions of the famous landmark.
Eine geschichtsträchtiger Landausflug führte uns in die Ruinenstadt in Belize ,die Maya Ruinen in Belize. Nach einer einstündigen Busfahrt bei einem Landausflug auf unserer Carnival Kreuzfahrt im April 2014 durch die westliche Karibik erreichten wir as Areal. Dort besuchten wir die schönen alten Maya Tempel und kletterten auf uralte Geschichte herum. Das Video zeigt einige Eindrücke von der berühmten Sehenswürdigkeit.
