The inaugural ceremony of the Kandy Esala Perahera and the hurricane which took place at Haldummulla on the inauguration of the great cultural festival of Hela had been held at Aluthnuwara.
A tree that had not been milked with milk and coconut trees had been cut by a silver splitter in the Alanduwara area in collaboration with the Vishnu Devale and the Aluthupura Dedimunda Devale in Kandy.

It is believed that the Dedimunda Deiyo is the guardian deity of the Buddha Sasana. The name of the deity suggests that he was firm, hardhearted with a strong and powerful personality.
To reach Aluthnuwara Devale one has to travel to Hingula, two miles away from Mawanella on the Kandy-Colombo main road which was once a busy bazaar where people from Aranayake, Rambukkana and Mawanella came daily with their garden produce. They either walked or used bullock carts. Trade was dominated by the Chettiars who bought coffee, pepper, arecanuts and bananas in exchange for provisions. This was the scene before the World War 2. About two miles away from the Hingula bazaar, there is a road to the interior of Aluthnuwara which leads to the shrine of the deity Dedimunda Deiyo. Passing paddy fields and homesteads, one comes to an Ambalama with high stone wall pillars, a resting place for weary travelers in the days gone by. Travelling further, a flight of steps lead to the ‘Maluwa’ (compound). A short distance away is the Aluthnuwara Dedimunda Devale.

මහා නරපතියෙකුට උපත දුන් තැන කොට වෙහෙර - Dedigama Kota Vehera (Suthigara Sthpa)
This stupa has been built by king Parakramabahu the Great ( 1153-1186) as a memorial on the location he was born.
This stupa has not being subject to any major renovation but during excavations it has been found that the stupa is built on top of another smaller stupa. The smaller stupa was found closer to the pesa walalu on the eastern side.
This was 36 feet in diameter. It has been found that that both these stupas has been built around the same time. It is believed that the smaller stupa has been built on the exact place there the birth took place and and then a bigger stupa was built
around it. The diameter of the bigger stupa is 256 feet and it is 47 feet high. The top of the stupa is flat and covers about 26,000 square feet.
Turn to right at the Nelumdeniya junction at the 67Km post on the Colombo Kandy Road. The stupa can be reached by traveling about 2 1/2 kilometres on this road.
