Alva Glen
If you like waterfalls, Alva Glen in the Ochil Hills, is the place to go! By 1830, nine textile mills used the fast flowing water of the Alva Burn to drive their machines. Dams and lades were built to ensure that there was enough water throughout the year. Higher up there are many natural waterfalls, and also the dramatic Smuggler`s Cave, which is, in fact, a very narrow gorge in the glen.
ILLUMINATIONS: Alva Glen was first illuminated in 1937 to celebrate the coronation of George VI. Organised by the town council and using roman candles and 600 fairy lights, the event must have been a great success, since it was repeated in subsequent years.
In fact, the fame of the illuminations, which were accompanied by music and entertainment, spread so widely that buses and coaches were employed to bring people on excursions from distant towns and villages - even as far away as Glasgow! It's said that on the most popular nights up to 200 buses were parked in Alva.
The Second World War brought a temporary end to these pleasures, but they restarted soon after, attracting even greater numbers. Amazingly, it appears that a total of 96,360 people visited the 1951 illuminations which, at this point, extended over a four-week period and included fireworks.
As time went on the event became a victim of its own success, and the huge numbers attending began to cause consternation amongst a number of Alva's residents who became irritated by the noise, parking problems and the behaviour of some visitors. Sadly, in 1953 the decision was taken to discontinue the illuminations, to the disappointment of many.
However the illuminations have been revived on a much smaller scale in recent years, but only on one night a year.

The Tony Alva Story - The Official Teaser | 6.21.20 | Skate | VANS
One of the key figures in the early evolution of skateboarding from a wholesome, contest based sport into the freewheeling art form that it is today was Tony Alva.
At 61-years-old Alva, the oldest professional skateboarder in the world, is considered by many to be the godfather of modern day skateboarding. Alva’s brand of aggression and bravado in the 70’s set the stage for the way skateboarding would be forever defined.
Vans’ The Tony Alva Story chronicles T.A.’s humble beginnings on the streets of Santa Monica to his rise to superstardom as part of the legendary Z-Boys, his inevitable drug-induced implosion and his ultimate rise from the ashes to accept his rightful place as a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations of skateboarders the world over.

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Alva, Scottish Gaelic: Allamhagh Beag, meaning little plain of the rock, a small town in Clackmannanshire, set in the Central Lowlands. It is one of a number of towns situated immediately to the south of the Ochil Hills, collectively referred to as the Hillfoots Villages or simply The Hillfoots. During the Industrial Revolution, Alva developed as a textile manufacturing centre; the woollen mills, originally water-powered, provided employment for locals and migrants to the area.

Places to see in ( Drymen - UK )
Places to see in ( Drymen - UK )
Drymen is a village in Stirling district in central Scotland. Drymen lies to the west of the Campsie Fells and enjoys views to Dumgoyne on the east and to Loch Lomond on the west. The Queen Elizabeth Forest reaches down to the village edge, and the whole area is part of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park (the first National Park in Scotland).
It is often used as an overnight stop for hikers on the West Highland Way, and forms the western end of the Rob Roy Way. There are a couple of pubs and a walkers' shop. The Clachan pub claims to be the oldest pub in Scotland and to have a connection with the family of Rob Roy.
Despite the growth in the numbers of villagers commuting to Glasgow to work, there remains an agricultural tradition in the area. Every year, in early summer, an agricultural show is held in the fields around the Endrick Water. The Scottish family name Drummond is derived from the Scottish Gaelic form of the village's name.
( Drymen - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Drymen . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Drymen - UK

The Ochil Hills ( pronounced oʊxəl ) (from the Celtic (specifically Old Welsh) uchel meaning 'high') is a range of hills in Scotland north of the Forth valley bordered by the towns of Stirling, Alloa, Kinross and Perth. The only major roads crossing the hills pass through Glen Devon/Glen Eagles and Glenfarg, the latter now largely replaced except for local traffic by the M90 Edinburgh-Perth motorway cutting through the eastern foothills. The hills are part of a Devonian lava extrusion whose appearance today is largely due to the Ochil Fault which results in the southern face of the hills forming an escarpment. The plateau is undulating with no prominent peak. The highest peak in the Ochils is Ben Cleuch which is 2,363 Feet (721 metres) and offers a challenge to any hillwalker intending to reach its summit.
The south-flowing burns have cut deep ravines including Dollar Glen, Silver Glen and Alva Glen, often only passable with the aid of wooden walkways.
Between 280 and 340 million years ago the land cracked and the land to the South of the crack shifted downwards some 10,000 feet. Geologists call this type of movement a fault and the Ochil Fault forms one of the finest geological features in Britain.
Of course, the Ochil Hills are no longer 10,000 feet high but have been reduced greatly in size over millions of years by wind, water and ice erosion.
Much of the Ochils were covered with trees in the past, however these have now been felled for wood and to create grazing land for sheep, making it difficult for plants to grow. Those that do are small and low, and any taller plants you'll see are those sheep dont eat such as prickly gorse or poisonous bracken.
Historically, the hills, combined with the town being built at the lowest bridge-point on the river Forth, led to Stirling's importance as a main gateway to the Highlands. They also acted as a boundary to the Kingdom of Fife. Castle Campbell was built at the head of Dollar Glen in the late 1400s (an earlier castle on the site being called Castle Gloom) mainly as a very visible symbol of the Campbell domination of the area. Sheriffmuir, the site of the 1715 battle of the Jacobite rising is on the northern slopes of the hills. In the early Industrial Revolution, several mill towns such as Tillicoultry, Alva and Menstrie (the Hillfoots Villages) grew up in the shadow of the Ochils to tap the water power. Some of the mills are open today as museums.
