■TripNotes
Spot1:Ruins of Takeda Castle
The ruins of Takeda Castle are located at the peak of Mt. Kojo in the city of Asago. On particularly foggy mornings, the base of the mountain becomes invisible and the castle seems to be floating in air. This mystical scene is where the nickname Castle in the Sky comes from and it has also appeared in the movie Kagemusha directed by Akira Kurosawa.
If you're lucky, you may be able to see the ruins floating in a sea of mist from the Ritsuunkyo viewing deck at the time of sunrise in the months of October and November.
Spot2:Arima Hot Springs
Arima Hot Springs are accessible from Kobe and Osaka city centers and are known as one of the three most famous hot springs in Japan. Experience the scene of traditional wooden buildings lined along the narrow streets and peaceful ambiance of the hot spring town. There are hot springs that you can visit on a day-return trip, but why not stay for a night and have a stroll through the town?
Climb the nearby Mount Rokko with the ropeway and take a nature walk in the sky.
Food:Kobe Beef
Hyogo is where the world-famous Japanese beef brand, Kobe Beef comes from.
Kobe Beef ranks among the top of many Japanese beef brands. Kobe Beef steak is highly recommended. Enjoy the beautifully presented, soft and finely textured meat that melts in your mouth.

Venue: Headquarters Office of Disaster Management Center, Hyogo Prefectural Government
About the Venue: The Disaster Management Center was constructed after the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake for the purpose to respond promptly and accurately to any disaster occurrence from the initial phase of emergency response as the headquarters of disaster management. It functions as the 24-hour disaster responsive and monitoring base equipped with the Phoenix Disaster Prevention and Preparedness System, a comprehensive disaster risk reduction (DRR) information system. The center was established building on the lessons learned from the 1995 earthquake in which the government office building itself was damaged by the intensive quake and became out of use for the initial response.)

Osaka - Third Largest City By Population Part II
Osaka - Third Largest City By Population Part II - Osaka (大阪 Ōsaka?) About this sound listen (help·info) is a designated city in the Kansai region of Japan. It is the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and the largest component of the Keihanshin Metropolitan Area, the second largest metropolitan area in Japan and among the largest in the world with nearly 19 million inhabitants. Situated at the mouth of the Yodo River on Osaka Bay, Osaka is Japan's third largest city by population after the Tokyo 23 wards and Yokohama, and serves as a major economic hub.
Some of the earliest signs of habitation in the area of Osaka were found at the Morinomiya remains (森の宮遺跡 Morinomiya iseki?), with its shell mounds, including sea oysters and buried human skeletons from the 5th–6th centuries BC. It is believed that what is today the Uehonmachi area consisted of a peninsular land, with an inland sea in the east. During the Yayoi period, permanent habitation on the plains grew as rice farming became popular.[1]
In 645, Emperor Kōtoku built his Naniwa Nagara-Toyosaki Palace in what is now Osaka[6] making it the then-capital of Japan (Naniwa-kyō). The city now known as Osaka was at this time referred to as Naniwa, and this name and derivations of it are still in use for districts in central Osaka such as Naniwa (浪速) and Namba (難波).[7
In 1496, the Jōdo Shinshū Buddhist sect set up their headquarters in the heavily fortified Ishiyama Hongan-ji, on the site of the old Naniwa imperial palace. Oda Nobunaga began a decade-long siege campaign on the temple in 1570 which ultimately resulted in the surrender of the monks and subsequent razing of the temple. Toyotomi Hideyoshi constructed Osaka Castle in its place.
The city's west side is open to Osaka Bay, and is otherwise completely surrounded by more than ten satellite cities, all of them in Osaka Prefecture, with one exception: the city of Amagasaki, belonging to Hyōgo Prefecture, in the northwest. The city occupies a larger area (about 13%) than any other city or village within Osaka Prefecture. More Info:

When rival political candidates meet in the streets of Osaka.
I found myself in the middle of a political 'stouch' the other day on the back-suburban streets of Kawanishi City, Hyogo Prefecture, (near Osaka). However the clashing ideologies merely exchanged pleasantries, and wished each other good luck (ganbatte!).

Total War: Shogun 2 Machinima: The Fading Light
This tells the story of the Shimabara Rebellion in 1637-38. It was the largest of its kind during the Edo period with the exception to the Boshin War at the end of the Edo period.
It was a conflict born out of oppression of the worst kinds. Harsh taxation, religious persecution, among other things.
The rebellion was widely successful in the region of Shimabara, and the Amakusa Islands which were very near by. The Amakusa islands had also faced very similar circumstances. It is suspected as much as 50% or more of the entire population of the Shimabara (20,000+ of a total of 40,000+) joined the rebellion. What is known is that the fife of Shimabara so was depopulated after the rebellion that people had to be imported from all over Japan. According to Wiki, in Shimabara people still speak in different dialects to this day.
At the Siege of Hara the defenders (some 30,000) faced off for months against a force of Tokugawa in excess of 125,000 men.. In the end Hara castle fell, and Christianity was banned by the Shogun for it was thought it was the work of the Jesuits.
So ends the story of the Shimabara Rebellion.
