Land Bridge to Heaven — AMANOHASHIDATE in Kyoto, Japan (天橋立)

One of Japan's official three scenic views, Amanohashidate means bridge to heaven, and for good reason. Located 1.5 hours from Kyoto, this natural land bridge is over 2 miles long, walkable by foot, and splits the mouth of Miyazu Bay and the Asoumi Sea. At both ends are chairlifts, cable cars, monorails, and even an amusement park called View Land.

Amanohashidate Road Trip // 天橋立

I took my mum to Amanohashidate for her birthday! We went in the off season so it was really quiet and we basically had the whole town to ourselves! I highly recommend going if you want to see a less touristy side of Kyoto!

母とレンタルカーで天橋立に行った！母の誕生日でしたから、楽しくて特別なミニトリップをしたかった。天橋立はすごい綺麗な景色で美味しい食べ物が多い場所です。おすすめだよ！

Toddler in Japan: Amanohashidate by bike, lift and speed boat (Day 11)

We took our nearly 3 year old on her first international trip to Japan.
Today's destination is the Amanohashidate land bridge in Miyazu. Ride a lift up the mountain to view the land bridge, then head back down to ride bikes across, and then finally take a speed boat back. We end the day with a soak in an onsen and a Kaiseki dinner.
This is a part of an epic 14 day trip through Japan, with an ecstatic toddler in tow.

If you have visited Kyoto numerous times, bored of the usual temple sights then head over to Amanohashidate for a sea view!
The only place in Kyoto with this sight, hence it's given title Kyoto by the Sea.

After meeting up with friends in the Kansai area, I spent the weekend exploring Kyoto by bicycle, visiting Amanohashidate (one of the Three Views of Japan 日本三景), and strolling down lantern-lined streets of Miyazu's Yawarabi Festival.

Vlog #1 : Kyoto Ayabe City and Amanohashidate

This trip was actually a study tour organized by our graduate school and was a part of the requirements of a certain class.
It was a two-day trip from July 8-9, 2018.

Some info about Ayabe City and Amanohashidate

- Ayabe is situated in the mountains of Northern Kyoto Prefecture. You can get there by train from Kyoto station or by car in an hour and a half. (wiki)

- Amanohashidate (天橋立) is one of Japan's three scenic views. The sandbar is located in Miyazu Bay in northern Kyoto Prefecture. It forms part of the Tango-Amanohashidate-Ōeyama Quasi-National Park. (wiki)

These two places are not really part of the mainstream Kyoto tourist spots because they are located quite far from the city center. They are perfect for a two-day trip and the views are second to none!
