Pond herons (Ardeola) are herons, typically 40–50 cm long with 80–100 cm wingspan. Most breed in the tropical Old World, but the migratory squacco heron occurs in southern Europe and the Middle East and winters in Africa.

These pond herons are stocky species with a short neck, short thick bill, typically buff or brownish back, and coloured or streaked foreneck and breast. In summer, adults may have long neck feathers. Ardeola herons are transformed in flight, looking very white due to the brilliant white wings.

Their breeding habitat is marshy wetlands. They nest in small colonies, often with other wading birds, usually on platforms of sticks in trees or shrubs. two to five eggs are laid.

These herons feed on insects, fish and amphibians. They are often found on small ponds giving rise to the English name shared by most of the species

Amaravathi Dam udumelpet

Amaravathi Dam at Amaravathinagar, 25 km south on NH 17 from Udumalpet, is located in Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu, India.

The dam was built in 1957 during the K. Kamaraj administration across the Amaravati River about 25 km upstream and south from Thirumoorthy Dam.

during 2003-04, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board proposed to install 4 MW electric generating capacity from the dam,[3] which is now in operation.Tamil Nadu.Crocodile park is also an additional attraction.

We have shot this video in Amaravathy Dam. It is one of the smallest dam. But water taste wise, it is the second tastiest next to Siruvani.

We got a chance to got down to the dam and captured this video.
This was captured on a evening time. It was wonderful to be there in between the all the birds sound at this evening time. We spent almost two hours there. We loved the trip. Just watch it. I am sure, you will also like this dam.

We have shot this video in Amaravathi Crocodile Park. It is a little big farm. It has around 50 Crocodiles. If you planning to visit Munnar or Udumalpet, don't miss this spot. Quite interesting spot. Kids will really like this place. Entrance fees is also minimal (If I am not wrong, some where around Rs.10 for Adults and 5 for Kids).

Also along with this park, you can visit the Amaravathi Dam also.
