Visit Manaus, Brazil: Gateway to the Amazon
Old (and I think decrepit) Hotel Tropical is located on the Rio Negro River, way...outside of Manaus Center. (Rumor is the hotel will be bankrupt by the end of 2016.)
Intensely disliked the hotel but there are several excellent shops in its outside shopping plaza. Particularly, Seringueira Jewelry store where owner spent considerable time explaining Amazonian jewelry and history even though I only purchased an $8 bracelet.
BRAZIL AMAZON MANAUS
Manaus is the capital of the Brazilian state of Amazon. It is located at the mouth of the Rio Negro in the Rio Solimões. From there the river is called Amazonas. Impressive is the width of the river 1,500 km of air line from the mouth to the ocean. Manaus is a large city in the Amazon, but a lovely and friendly city that invites you to an impressive river landscape.
The main attractions are the theater from the great times of the rubber barons, the market with everything the Amazon offers, and the atmosphere at the port, were people and goods spread to all directions.

An Amazon in The Amazonas - Manaus, Brazil
One of the most amazing places in the world is Manaus, Brazil. Although I am not a big fan of cities, I appreciate the hospitality and incredible nature provided here in the Amazonas. I have seen so much from toucans to sloths, many types of parrots, many types of monkeys, lizards and one of my favorite animals, the dolphin. In this case, the pink river dolphin was always a favorite of mine and this was a bucket list item to see and experience. For anybody wanting to experience the feeling of the Amazon, definitely come to Manaus and stay at an airbnb with Douglas and Rebecca, which is just outside the city. Not only is it outside the city noise, but you can see a lot of the wildlife right in their neighborhood.

BEST FULL DAY TOUR IN AMAZON
The best full day tour in Amazon.
We Had an incredible tour experience visiting the Amazon rain forest in Brazil. It is your best opportunnity to be close to nature, to visit a Indian tribe, to fish, see the animals and the forest. Where would you see the Pink dolphin if not in the Amazon Rio Negro. Also swim and play with this sweet animal. If you travel to the Amazon this is the best tour option you will have for a day.

THE GATEWAY CITY TO ANY
EXCURSION INTO THE AMAZON IS MANAUS,
SITUATED AT THE JUNCTION OF THE RIO
NEGRO AND THE RIO SOLIMOES.
MANAUS WAS BORN AS A RESULT OF
THE GREAT BRAZILIAN RUBBER BOOM
-- A BOOM THAT BEGAN WITH THE
DISCOVERY OF THE RUBBER TREE
HERE IN THE HEART OF THE JUNGLE.
WITH ITS GREAT PLANTATIONS
OF TREES YIELDING A SAP THAT COULD BE
TURNED INTO RUBBER, THE AMAZON
BECAME THE WORLD'S LARGEST
PRODUCER OF NATURAL RUBBER
BY THE END OF THE 19TH CENTURY.
THE WEALTH OF THE RUBBER BOOM
CREATED A THRIVING CITY IN THE HEART OF
THE WILDERNESS THAT COULD ONLY
BE REACHED BY A THOUSAND MILE RIDE UP
THE AMAZON RIVER. WITH THE
COMPLETION OF ITS MAJESTIC
NEO-CLASSIC OPERA HOUSE IN 1896,
MANAUS BECAME A UNIQUE CULTURAL OASIS.
BUT ALL OF THIS OPPULENCE WAS TO END
WHEN RUBBER SEEDLINGS WERE SMUGGLED
OUT TO THE ORIENT AND COMPETITION
ENSUED. WHEN RUBBER PRICES TUMBLED AS
A RESULT, THE AMAZON WENT INTO A DRAMATIC DEPRESSION.
BUT TODAY ANOTHER BOOM
IS TAKING PLACE HERE! MANUAS IS NOT ONLY
THE JUMPING OFF POINT FOR VISITORS INTO THE
INTERIOR, BUT IT IS ALSO A BUSY
FREE TRADE ZONE WHERE MANUFACTURED GOODS
CAN ENTER THE COUNRY EXEMPT OF IMPORT DUTY.
SHOPPERS COME HERE FROM ALL OVER
TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF BARGAINS IN
EVERYTHING FROM PERFUME TO ELECTRONICS.
MANAUS IS ALSO THE BUSY PORT
FOR A REGION WHERE THE MAIN TRANSPORTATION
SYSTEM IS THE AMAZON RIVER AND IT'S TRIBUTARIES.
THESE CLASSIC AMAZON RIVER BOATS FUNTION NOT ONLY
AS PEOPLE MOVERS, BUT TRANSPORT VIRTUALLY EVERYTHING
THAT COMES INTO AND OUT OF THE JUNGLE.
THE RIVER IS NOT JUST THE BASIS FOR
TRANSPORTATION BUT FOR FOOD AS WELL.
THERE ARE OVER 1500 VARIETIES OF FISH
IN THESE SEEMINGLY ENDLESS WATERS
AND THE LOCAL DIET CONSISTS LARGELY OF FISH
CAUGHT BY THE LOCAL FISHERMAN.

City in Brazil
Manaus, on the banks of the Negro River in northwestern Brazil, is the capital of the vast state of Amazonas. It's a major departure point for the surrounding Amazon Rainforest.
Just east of the city, the dark Negro River converges with the brown, muddy Solimões River resulting in a striking visual phenomenon called the “Meeting of the Waters.” The combined tributaries form the Amazon River.

Local host, Jose Falcone, takes us on a journey of a lifetime exploring the Amazon Rainforest. He gets up close to nature and takes on all the adventures the jungle has to offer. As well as climbing up one of the tallest trees in the Amazon, he swims with the Pink River Dolphins, and even goes on a hike through the rainforest, which is home to uncountable species of fauna and flora.
Emyle Araujo loves her city and is excited to show the world why. She starts her day tasting Amazonian delicacies at the Mercado Municipal, including her favourite local plant, Jambu. Not only does she continue to explore Manaus city’s architecture, she takes a tour around the beautiful Amazon Theatre. Just before dinner, she heads to Ponta Negra, the only beach in Manaus, and builds up an appetite by taking part in a carnival dance. To end the evening, she enjoys a feast at Tambaqui de Banda in St. Sebastian Square and relaxes with a beer whilst listening to some live music at Bar Do Armando

The Heart of Amazon - Manaus, Brazil
Manaus lies in the heart of Amazon. This is where most people go to get into the Amazon. A lot of river boats depart from here and it's the biggest metropolitan area in this part of Brazil. In the morning the harbor gets busy with all the boats stocking up and getting ready for next trip. The market is also full of activity offering all kinds of food, like the mountain of bananas that can be seen in this movie. Manaus also feature a world famous Opera house in the center of town with a very special architecture.
