Amazon Planet (part 4/5)
The giant Amazon, has since its birth in the Andes to its mouth, 6868 miles, the equivalent distance between New York and Berlin. We begin our journey on Brazilian lands, Tabatinga.
We full ourselves with nature and immerse us in a beautiful and rewarding journey flying over the Amazon River. We will check that this water-flow not only carries water, also blood of men and women who inhabit the planet. Only fifteen million years ago that this giant empties into the Atlantic. Before it traveled across the American continent, looking at Asia.
The river of thousand faces, with over 1,100 tributaries, is an arterial system by running a fifth of the world's freshwater. Contemplate the bravery of the Black River, the fourth largest in the world, and the stunning contrast of colors to blend with the Amazon River.
A paradise in which everything works perfectly. Amazon is harmonious, organized and beautiful.

Amazon River (Peru)
A place that more or less always seems so remote and hard to get to is really with in range of us all now. But don't be fooled, outfits like the Maniti Tours will only take you in so far and the experience will be less than authentic. Don't get me wrong, the locals, especially in the video here are all incredible nice people and the lifestyle they live is amazing to see. But as a photographer with special access to these places and the people through friends of the agency who know them well is why I regard the place in such a wonderful light.. They really are special people.. The tour will swiftly bring you by in a time restrained and choreographed manner (which may be just fine for some people) . Sitting down, chatting with them , photographing, joking, having a few cold beers most likely will not be your experience unless you know which guide is tied into which village. Miguel for example knows the people of Santa Maria Fatima very well, (in fact I went to a small funeral with him a few yrs back). Ashuko has other connections and an amazing knowledge of the natural environment, including Sappo and ayahuasca ceremonies. The local wildlife in and around Iquitos has been over hunted and you will need a few days down river to get into the real deal. You will be relegated to places like Monkey Island or some zoo on the way back as the experience with the iconic creatures of the Amazon .I write this as I don't want my enthusiasm for such a special place to be misrepresented by someone buying a simple tour thinking they will get the same experience. It's a wonderful experience for the casual traveler and places like Maniti off er a nice toe in the water experience which is perfect for most; but I would be remiss is I did not offer the fact that I am a profession al photo and writer and have access most wont..
Hiking the Amazon Rainforest in Peru
Hiking the Amazon rainforest in Peru, just outside of Iquitos, definitely put me outside my comfort zone. The Amazon jungle is relentless, especially with the amount of mosquitos and deadly animals and insects.
Our tour guide was super knowledgable and tought us a ton about survival... he once spent several days lost in the Amazon rainforest with his dad as a child.
After the hike, we spent the night in the jungle before returning to Iquitos the next afternoon.
