Amber Demonstration at the Millennium Gallery Jewelry Shop in Gdansk, Poland
This demonstration by Dominika Bielicka-Sobieska took place in the Millennium Gallery just steps from the historic Green Gate along Gdansk's pedestrian riverfront. The amber found along the northern coast of Poland is about 40-45 million years old, formed from tree resin released during what was believed to be a catastrophic event. Some of the amber stones come from deep within the Baltic Sea, usually washed up after a storm, while much is still buried underground. Naturally forming, amber has many impurities in it like sand and insects (yes, as seen in the movie Jurassic Park). The jewelry is very expensive, with some of the large and highly polished stones in pendants running up to $50,000 USD or more. Gdansk also has an Amber Museum housed in the former old Prison Tower.

ZELLEY AMBER MUSEUM
There has been a Zelley jewellery shop in St Giles Street, Norwich since the 1880s. All that time it has been owned and run by the same family. The amber they sell, though, has a much older heritage - millions of years old. Over the years they have acquired many interesting pieces and now display them in a special room and museum in the shop. The amber is the passion of Howard Zelley and the film tells the story of how it was all set up, inspired by a 1990s film.
