Highlights of Drive from Paro Airport to Thimphu, Department of Immigration, Jamyang Resort, Thimphu
Hi Everyone, Today its our first day in Bhutan. We have just landed and Paro International Airport. Paro to Thimphu distance is approximately 48km and traveling time will be approximately 1Hr to 20 Minutes.
Note that the sale of tobacco is banned in Bhutan. For personal consumption, 1 carton of cigarettes, (containing 200 pieces) & 1 Bottle of Liquor not larger than 1Ltr. subject to 100 % customs duty and 100 % sales tax. Travelers are requested to declare their dutiable items at customs and pay the admissible taxes.
SIM cards are available at Paro International Airport after customs check. .Bhutan Telecom, TashiCell are the two largest telephone, Internet Service Providers in Bhutan. Prepaid SIM with the Internet is the best option for Tourists. SIM will be activated within minutes. We have taken 5GB data with 4G coverage at Rs. 500/- (NU 500) Butaneesee currency equal to Indian rupees and Indian currencies accepted in Bhutan.
Route Permit to be obtained for restricted areas like Thimphu, Punakha, Trongsa, Bumthang from the Department of Immigration in Thimphu.
Our first day will be at Thimphu and we have done our booking at Jamyang Resort in Thimphu through our Tour operator Amedewa Tours and Trek, Thimphu. This resort situated on a hill a top with a breathtaking view of mountains, crystal clear river and an amazing view of Thimphu town. and the hotel is near to Thimphu Town about 10 minutes driving distance from the clock tower. This resort is a small 3-star hotel with a restaurant, bar, spa, gym, and free WiFi in every room. Free parking is available. The rooms are very spacious and clean, the bed is very comfy The staffs are very courteous /friendly and cordial. We had 2 breakfasts which were included in our package. People don’t blare their horns unnecessarily and they obey traffic rules, there is no hurry, most of the people drive very relaxed. There is absolutely no hurry.
