STORYLINE:
Kenya and Tanzania on Thursday marked the 10th anniversary of the deadly bombings of the US embassies in the east African nations, as police conducted a manhunt for the al-Qaida suspect believed to have masterminded the attacks.
The coordinated attacks on the morning of August 7, 1998 killed more than 200 people and wounded 5,000 in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
The alleged mastermind, Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, has been on the run for years; he apparently escaped a police raid over the weekend on the Kenyan coast.
The stark revelations of the last few days have reminded us yet again that we have terrorists in our midst still planning awful deeds, Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga said, referring to Mohammed's escape.
He spoke during a ceremony at the site of the former embassy, which was later transformed into a memorial garden.
We must therefore never relax our vigilance against these extremists. Let me assure Kenyans that this government will do everything possible to prevent us from ever again being attacked, Odinga told reporters and survivors of the attack who gathered in the memorial garden.
Mohammed has a five (m) million US dollar bounty on his head for allegedly planning the 1998 attacks on the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.
Police said they discovered two of his passports and have arrested two men accused of aiding him in the Kenyan coastal town of Malindi.
Mohammed was apparently in Kenya to seek treatment for a kidney complaint, police said.
The new US Embassy in Kenya is now based in a heavily fortified compound in a leafy residential neighbourhood on the outskirts of Nairobi.
The US Embassy in Uganda warned Americans in East Africa could be at an increased risk of attack from extremists over the anniversary of the attacks.
The embassy said a number of suspected al-Qaida operatives were believed to be in East Africa and could endanger US facilities and personnel.
The embassy's message issued on Tuesday warned that increased security at official US facilities may cause would-be attackers to seek softer targets where tourists congregate.

A cargo plane carrying seriously injured victims of the Nairobi embassy bombing has arrived at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
The injured were met by medical teams and a squadron of ambulances and rushed to near-by hospitals.
The plane will return to Nairobi on Sunday night to pick up more victims.
Medical personnel rushed to meet the plane and help the 15 injured to ambulances, which whisked them away to a US military hospital in Landstuhl.
Of the wounded, 10 are Americans and five are Kenyans.
Most were carried on stretchers, but several were able to walk, including one woman with bandaged eyes escorted by two nurses.
An Army helicopter waited nearby to fly a critically injured Kenyan, believed to be a U.S. embassy employee, immediately to a neurosurgical intensive care unit at the University Medical Centre in Homburg, 30 kilometres (20 miles) away.
Lt. Col. Russ Turner, chief medical officer on board, said the patients endured the 9-hour journey from Nairobi quietly.

We bought 16 people back, five of whom were Kenyan nationals who were injured in the bomb. They were fairly sick we ran the spectrum of people but most were quite sick on the whole.

The C-141 was used for the mission because it can make the long journey without a refuelling stop.
It will be loaded with additional medical supplies, including surgical packets and tubing, for a return flight to Nairobi later on Sunday.

The cargo plane was scheduled to return to Ramstein on Monday with less critically injured patients.
Another plane carrying U.S. State Department and FBI investigators, along with medical supplies, left Ramstein on Saturday for Kenya.

A Pennsylvania family was horrified to discover a hidden camera recording them in their hotel room, but are they the only ones being watched? The Wallace family said they found a concealed recording device in their room at a Virginia Beach hotel over Memorial Day weekend. Angela Wallace, her husband and 11-year-old daughter found the camera pointed at the shower during their stay at The Knights Inn and Suites. The Inside Edition investigative team went to the hotel and approached the manager.

Uhuru Park is a beautiful recreational Park in the heart of Nairobi city, stretched on land measuring 32 acres (13 hectares). There are many national monuments, constructions, sculptures and wonderful structures besides a Children Park as well as a beautiful artificial lake with curved and foot bridges joining the lily pond and an artificial island. The Park was opened to the general public by the first President of Kenya, Mr. Jomo Kenyatta on 23 May 1969. Because of its central location, the park attracts hundreds of local and foreign tourists daily. Particularly the Park becomes a lively and cultural place on weekends and national holidays when thousands of people throng to this park for picnic and recreation. There are hundreds of shady trees with overall cool atmosphere which provides a good escape from hustle and bustle of neighboring central business district.
The entry to the Park is free which is a rare thing in Nairobi. On occasions the grounds of the Uhuru Park are used for assembly by religious and political groups. There are two significant memorials in this Park; one is ‘Love, Peace and Unity Memorial’ and the other is ‘Memorial to the Victims of Torture and Ill-Treatment’.

Madeleine Jana Korbel Albright (born Marie Jana Korbelová; May 15, 1937) is an American politician and diplomat. She is the first female United States Secretary of State in U.S. history, having served from 1997 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton.
Albright emigrated to the United States in 1948 from Czechoslovakia with her family. Her diplomat father, Josef Korbel, settled their family in Denver, and she became a U.S. citizen in 1957. Albright graduated from Wellesley College in 1959 and earned a PhD from Columbia University in 1975, writing her thesis on the Prague Spring. She worked as an aide to Senator Edmund Muskie before taking a position under Zbigniew Brzezinski on the National Security Council. She served in that position until the end of President Jimmy Carter's lone term.
After leaving the National Security Council, Albright joined the academic staff of Georgetown University and advised Democratic candidates regarding foreign policy. After Clinton's victory in the 1992 presidential election, she helped assemble Clinton's National Security Council. In 1993, Clinton appointed her to the position of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. She held that position until 1997, when she succeeded Warren Christopher as Secretary of State. She served as Secretary of State until Clinton left office in 2001.
Albright currently serves as chair of Albright Stonebridge Group and as a professor of International Relations at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. In May 2012, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by U.S. President Barack Obama. Secretary Albright also serves as a director on the board of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Barack Hussein Obama II ( (listen); born August 4, 1961) is an American politician who served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, he was the first African American to be elected to the presidency and previously served as a United States Senator from Illinois (2005–2008).
Obama was born in 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii, two years after the territory was admitted to the Union as the 50th state. After graduating from Columbia University in 1983, he worked as a community organizer in Chicago. In 1988, he enrolled in Harvard Law School, where he was the first black president of the Harvard Law Review. After graduating, he became a civil rights attorney and a professor, teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. He represented the 13th district for three terms in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004, when he ran for the U.S. Senate. He received national attention in 2004 with his March primary win, his well-received July Democratic National Convention keynote address, and his landslide November election to the Senate. In 2008, he was nominated for president a year after his campaign began and after a close primary campaign against Hillary Clinton. He was elected over Republican John McCain and was inaugurated on January 20, 2009. Nine months later, he was named the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
During his first two years in office, Obama signed many landmark bills into law. The main reforms were the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (often referred to as Obamacare, shortened as the Affordable Care Act), the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 served as economic stimulus amidst the Great Recession. After a lengthy debate over the national debt limit, he signed the Budget Control and the American Taxpayer Relief Acts. In foreign policy, he increased U.S. troop levels in Afghanistan, reduced nuclear weapons with the United States–Russia New START treaty, and ended military involvement in the Iraq War. He ordered military involvement in Libya in opposition to Muammar Gaddafi; Gaddafi was killed by NATO-assisted forces. He also ordered the military operations that resulted in the deaths of Osama bin Laden and suspected Yemeni Al-Qaeda operative Anwar al-Awlaki.
After winning re-election by defeating Republican opponent Mitt Romney, Obama was sworn in for a second term in 2013. During this term, he promoted inclusiveness for LGBT Americans. His administration filed briefs that urged the Supreme Court to strike down same-sex marriage bans as unconstitutional (United States v. Windsor and Obergefell v. Hodges); same-sex marriage was fully legalized in 2015 after the Court ruled that a same-sex marriage ban was unconstitutional in Obergefell. He advocated for gun control in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, indicating support for a ban on assault weapons, and issued wide-ranging executive actions concerning climate change and immigration. In foreign policy, he ordered military intervention in Iraq in response to gains made by ISIL after the 2011 withdrawal from Iraq, continued the process of ending U.S. combat operations in Afghanistan in 2016, promoted discussions that led to the 2015 Paris Agreement on global climate change, initiated sanctions against Russia following the invasion in Ukraine and again after Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections, brokered a nuclear deal with Iran, and normalized U.S. relations with Cuba.
