Restaurants Featured:
1) Acqua e Mais
Campiello dei Meloni, 1411-1412, 30125 Venezia VE, Italy
Roadside stand which features ingredients that have been served in the city for hundreds of years: fried or grilled polenta (cornmeal mash) topped with fried/grilled fresh seafood, including traditional ingredients such as octopus or squid.
2) Ostaria Dai Zemei
San Polo, 1045, 30125 Venezia VE, Italy
Cicchetti bar (appetizer bar) which serves crostinis topped with rustic, Venice ingredients paired with local wines.
First thing we did was squeeze through the standing room only bar and head to the cashier. There we picked random crostini by pointing at whatever looked good. The crostinis ranged from smoked and cured meats, fresh and pickled seafood, smoked salmon and other tasty treats!
If you don’t want to stand with the crowd you can sit outside too. I think the prices might be higher though.
3) Farini
Calle Seconda de la Fava, 5564, 30121 Venezia VE, Italy
Local bakery with a long line for their single serving, freshly baked pizza. I thought this was good, not great and it's best as a cheap, filling snack while your'e on the go.
4) I Tre Mercanti
Campo de la Guerra, 5364, 30122 Venezia VE, Italy
This is a gourmet grocer that serves amazing, handmade (in front of you) tiramisu in different flavors. Highly recommended.
5) Caffè Florian
Piazza San Marco, 57, 30124 Venezia VE, Italy
Caffe Florian opened in 1720, is the oldest coffee house that's still operating today. It's a bit of a tourist trap with exorbitant prices, but their drinks are really good and you are sitting in a cafe with hundreds of years of history in a gorgeous setting. The food and desserts are not mindblowing.
6) Dal Moro's
Calle Casseleria, 5324, 30122 Venezia VE, Italy
Dal Moro's usually has a huge line, and it's a cheap, take out box of fresh pasta with different sauces and cheeses as well as your choice of vegetables and meats. This is an amazingly good meal for a very cheap price!
7) 6342 a le Tole
Sestiere Castello, 6342, 30122 Venezia VE, Italy
We decided to go to a local’s favorite called 6342 a le Tole. I would highly recommend reservations as this place gets packed and will turn people away.
We got lucky and snatched the last table available at their sister restaurant. It was a dark and intimate restaurant, with a live violinist and beautiful tables. Since we were in Venice, we wanted to try some seafood dishes as well as their famous, hand made pastas.
We ordered the following and it was all really good!
- Raw shrimp appetizer.
- The black spaghetti with seafood
- The 6342 pasta (house special)
- Mango panna cotta

An American Ordering Pizza for Two in Italian | Venice, Italy
We traveled to Venice Italy to have a brief sit down at the Rossopomodoro Ristorante (Red Tomato Restaurant) for some Neopolitan style pizza, and expresso. It is not too far from Piazza di San Marco. I never drink coffee unless I am visiting Italy - that is about my only exception. Here, I put my Italian to the test - such a beautiful language! Ciao, e arrivederci!
Venice Food Tour: Rialto Markets & Cicchetti Tasting with Wine | Walks of Italy
The best way to get acquainted with Venice is through its food. On our Venice Food Tour we spend time with an expert local guide exploring the historic Rialto Fish Market, indulging our senses at one of the world's oldest spice stores, meeting local food vendors, making very important pit stops at numerous cafes and restaurants. And, since this is Italy, we eat and drink our weight in local delicacies, like Venice's answer to tapas, 'cicchetti', along the way.

All The Food You Can Only Find At A McDonald's In Italy
We went to a McDonald's branch in Italy to see what's on the menu. The branch we visited was in the iconic city of Venice, but sadly it was not on a canal. We ordered some items that are only sold in Italy.
We got the My Selection Chicken burger, which has chicken breast, provolone cheese, and yellow tomato sauce, the Mozzarella McBites, the Parmareggio Snack, which is basically a 280gr parmesan bar, and also chicken wings.

I’m in Venice, doing research for the next edition of my Rick Steves Venice guidebook — and I just spent a great evening updating restaurant listings with the help of two American expats, Maya and Adam Stonecastle of Venice Bites Food Tours. We all happen to share the same favorite cicchetti bar, Cantinone Già Schiavi. Join us now as Maya explains what I’m having with my wine.
Here’s how this delightful place is written up in my guidebook:
[$] Enoteca Cantine del Vino Già Schiavi, with a wonderfully characteristic cicchetti-bar ambience, is much loved for its €1.20 cicchetti, €4 sandwiches (order from list on board), and €2 glasses of wine. You’re welcome to enjoy your wine and finger food at the bar, in the back room surrounded by wine bottles, or out on the sidewalk. (Specify “fuori” to sit outside, and they’ll provide plastic cups; please don’t sit on the bridge.) This is primarily a wine shop with great prices for bottles to go (Mon-Sat 8:30-20:30, closed Sun, 100 yards from Accademia art museum on San Trovaso canal; facing the Accademia, take a right and then a forced left at the canal to the second bridge — it’s at Dorsoduro 992, tel. 041-523-0034, they have no WC).

OG Venice Presents: Eating in a Venetian Bacaro with SALVMERIA, Bacaro Contemporaneo
The everyday foods found in Venetian bacari - fresh and even raw seafood, Italian cured meats, regional cheeses and local vegetables - are considered luxury foods in much of world. Yet, here in Venice you can eat a plate of these foods for less money than it costs to eat in a fast-food or chain restaurant, and enjoy your meal in a more relaxed environment while you're at it.
Of course, the existence of Bacari in Venice is no secret and Venetian Cicchetti are universally well-renowned snacks. Yet, many visitors to Venice, even regular visitors, can be hesitant to enter into and order food in bacari, not because they don't want the food, but really just because they're not sure which food is which and how to order it without disrupting the lively stream of life in the Bacaro.
With that in mind, and especially our own friends who have told us: We saw the cicchetti, but weren't quite sure how it worked, we decided to open a series of video posts with an introduction to eating in a Venetian bacaro.
What is a Bacaro?
A Bacaro is a traditional Venetian snack bar where both local Venetians and tourists mingle over spritz, wine, snacks and cicchetti. Visiting a bacaro, whether at lunch time or at cocktail hour can be one of the most fun, the most convenient, and also the least expensive ways to taste some of the best food available in Venice.
Who goes to the Bacaro?
Venetians from all walks of life and, as Giorgio, the owner of SALVMERIA, says it, also tourists who appreciate the Venetian style ... those who want to know the Venetian style of how to drink, how to eat and how to live.
Why do Venetians Often Choose to Eat in a Bacaro?
Because in a bacaro we have the best food at the best price and the atmosphere and the company are very friendly.
Thank you SALVMERIA: Bacaro Contemporaneo for your warm welcome and for speaking with us!

Aperitivo: Drinks, food and experiencing nightlife in Milan, Italy
Shortly after arriving in Milan we kept hearing from locals and other tourists about this thing called Aperitivo. Every night between 6 and 10 pm select cocktail bars in Milan open their doors with a buffet spread of pizza, pastas, salads, olives, cheese, deli meats, finger food and desserts along with offering a host of cocktails, spirits, beers and wines. For a set price (usually around 10 Euros and upwards) you can order a drink of your choice and chow down on a nice selection of food. Unfortunately, it took us until our final night in Milan to finally try Aperitivo and it didn't take us long to find out what all the fuss was about. Come join us in this video as we showcase what make Mianese Aperitivo so famous.

Aperitivo: Drinks, food and experiencing nightlife in Milan, Italy Travel Video Transcript:
So we've gone out for our first Italian Aperitivo. Which is kind of like a pre-dinner drinking tradition. Basically, you get yourself a cocktail for about 10 Euros and that gives you access to this massive buffet of like pizzas, pastas, olives. Anything you could possibly imagine. And this is what comes before dinner.
So I have to admit I was expecting very simple food for the Aperitivo. I thought maybe they would just give us some prosciutto cheese and olives. You know, pretty cheap simple food. But instead what we've found was this. So I've got lasagna, I've got ravioli. I have have stir-fried veggies. And even french fries which are not Italian but I had to grab a few anyways since they were available.
So how about you? What did you get for the Aperitivo? Give us a tour. Well, basically I almost exactly the same as you. The main difference being I got a huge slice of pizza and I think I got some more cold cuts and cheese.
You know what? All the pizza was gone when I went up there. I think you took the last slice. What can I say.
Alright, so I'm having a Bellini which is made with peach juice and something else. But I can't tell you what that something else is because I just don't know my cocktails very well.
It's good stuff right there.
Sweet?
Mmmmm.
Ah!
And it appears you've gone for something a bit more tropical. Yeah, how can you go wrong with a classic Piña colada. Now this looks really thick. I'm hoping that they put a lot of coconut and not too much pineapple juice.
That's a pretty decent blend. Yeah. Yeah, I really taste the coconut. I like it.
So the savory part is over. What have we got now? Well, it was time for dessert so I went back for seconds and they had lots of different cakes. And then this is really good. I'm not entirely sure what it is but it tastes a bit like a vanilla pudding crossed with custard. I don't know my Italian desserts but I can tell you it is really good. So I'm not going to share.
Okay, so final thoughts on your first Aperitivo experience. How was it?
Well, considering we spent several nights in Milan I can't believe it took us to our final night to actually go and try it. We should have been doing this every night. It's fantastic. You get a really nice cocktail. You get a nice spread of food and dessert too for 10 Euros. It's fantastic value.
And what did you think of it? Honestly, for me that was enough for dinner. It was a lot of food. I mean it is an open buffet so technically you can go up as many times as you want but you don't want to be overdoing it. Kind of like Vegas buffet style where you're just slapping the food on your plate until you've got a big mountain. That's not how it works over here. But it was really good, really tasty food. I would also recommend coming early. Aperitivo is usually between six and ten PM. We showed up at like six thirty and it was already quite packed so come early, get a table and there will be more food options as well.
This is part of our Travel in Italy series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Italian culture, Italian arts, Italian foods, Italian religion, Italian cuisine and Italian people.
