Jembatan Ampera adalah sebuah jembatan di Kota Palembang, Provinsi Sumatera Selatan, Indonesia. Jembatan Ampera, yang telah menjadi semacam lambang kota, terletak di tengah-tengah kota Palembang, menghubungkan daerah Seberang Ulu dan Seberang Ilir yang dipisahkan oleh Sungai Musi.

[PALEMBANG, INDONESIA] Evening Walk from Pedestrian Sudirman to Ampera Bridge
Wandering around one of the busiest place in Palembang in the evening while covering a few landmarks such as Fountain Circle, Ampera Bridge, Kuto Besak Fortress Plaza, and ends in Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Great Mosque. Notice that it's a little crowded in Sudirman Walk because this place turns into an entertainment place every Friday and Saturday evening.

Ampera Bridge more than a city symbol
The Ampera Bridge, located in the South Sumatra capital of Palembang, is not only a landmark but also reflects the nation’s political aspirations.
The idea to establish the bridge came from Palembang’s colonial era major Le Cocq de Ville. His vision was to unite the city by connecting two areas of Palembang that were divided by the Musi River.
Le Cocq’s idea remained unrealized until the Dutch lost their grasp on Indonesia. Gradually, the initiative to build the bridge reemerged when Palembang’s transitional legislative council decided to allocate a budget for its construction in October 1956.
A year later, construction began with a US$4.5 million (then Rp 9 billion) budget allocated, gained from the spoils of war when the country fought against Japan. Later the plan was also supported by founding father Sukarno.
The bridge, which was finished within three years, was once considered the longest bridge in Southeast Asia.

the evening before the big event looked perfect. sky clear, no weather forecast of rain next morning..... the view to the east was clear from the bridge.... they woke up at 4am, and reached the bridge slightly over 5am., already full of people. managed to get a place, a good place next to the handrail facing east. the MUSI river started to get busy with boats criss-crossing its body of water. he's ready for a big feast of his life....
but then he realised there's thick smog rising across the lower part of the sky, right in front of the place where the sun supposed to rise. and everything from then on went downhill; no witnessing of the sunrise, the start of the solar eclipse, the whole sequence of one of the most spectracular shows of nature - and the climax of the show - the total solar eclipse. the thing was, they spent a lot of effort(promotions, parties...) to attract people to the bridge to watch the eclipse, yet nothing's been done to cease the burnings that spurt out the smog.
he could only catch some glimpses of the sun from the gaps in the blobs of thick smog, took some photos.... big disappointment.
but then he remembered on the day of their parting, she said, don't be sad, we're not meant to be. God is preparing you for another.

Spanning across the Musi river, Ampera Bridge is the icon of Palembang.
Ampera Bridge is a Vertical-lift bridge in the city of Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia, which is the landmark of the city. It connects Seberang Ulu and Seberang Ilir, two regions of Palembang. It can no longer be opened to allow ships to pass.
The bridge was planned during the era of Indonesia's first president, who wanted a bridge that could open and be a match for London's Tower Bridge. The funds for the construction came from Japanese war reparations, with the Fuji Car Manufacturing Co. Ltd being given responsibility for design and construction. However, at the time, Japan had no bridges of this type, and Fuji Car had no bridge-building experience. The official opening was carried out by Minister/Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Ahmad Yani on 30 September 1965, only hours before he was killed by troops belonging to the 30 September Movement. At first, the bridge was known as the Bung Karno Bridge, after the president, but following his fall, it was renamed the Ampera Bridge.

Palembang one of the city in Indonesia, located at the south of sumatera island. If we standing at Benteng Kuto Besak area, on the background, you can see the city ladmark, AMPERA bridge, connecting the city which is separated by the Musi river, the longest river in Sumatera island. The Ampera bridge was first operated on September 30th, 1965. It wa inaugurated by Indonesia's first president, Mr Ir Soekarno. The bridge is well known throughtout the world and has become the tourist main attraction and famous photo spot. As Palembangnese, I'm very proud of this heritage
