Amsterdam Light Festival 2019 | Manipuri Vlog from Amsterdam | Evening view | City tour (Vlog 12)
Notes: Please set the picture quality to 1080p for the better pic quality.
Today I will make you feel like you are walking, doing a city tour in Amsterdam & exploring Amsterdam Light Festival. This festival happens every year during Christmas time, for whole 1 month. Also, you will see evening view of beautiful Amsterdam Canals, Boats, and Lights. Enjoy! :)
Explanation of the lights:
1. ATLANTIS
Do you recognize the buildings of this sinking megacity? The artist duo Utskottet fear that this ominous view may just become our own brutal reality. The rising sea levels and the increase of extreme weather conditions are consequences of humanity’s reckless treatment of the planet. And if we continue on like this, Amsterdam may soon be submerged, too. Utskottet chose buildings from different cities – can you spot the Empire State Building and Amsterdam’s A’dam Tower? – to form a global cityscape. After all, the threat of total demise concerns us all.
2. BIG BANG
According to UxU Studio, there’s nothing that symbolizes disruption more than a bomb. Their blue-lit bomb hangs threateningly in the air like it is just about to hit the water or maybe even a passing boat. While the first “Big Bang” set everything in motion, this one announces the end of our world. How will you respond if chaos invades your safe environment? It is meant to arouse fear, but those who come closer will also discover something surprising about the artwork: it is covered in soft feathers that mysteriously light up and occasionally make way for hundreds of small, twinkling lights.
3. NEIGHBORHOOD
A bright display of socks, pants, tops and dresses waves from the washing lines as if it were a summer day in Amsterdam. If you look closer you’ll see some special items of clothing such as a pair of wide Turkish pants, a traditional Jewish dress, and a Moroccan djellaba. Together these pieces represent the cultural and ethnic mix of residents in the city. It is this connection that is paramount for Sergey Kim; according to the artist, despite globalization and the wealth of information exchange around the world, we increasingly fear foreigners.
4. THE CRACKS
We must embrace the imperfections in what we do; damage and defects define the character of a person or an object. Karolina Howorko saw beauty in the cracks and imperfections of the Montelbaans Tower. The illuminated cracks slowly spread over the building, as if revealing pieces of a hidden stories within the tower. The tower is a symbol of our changing society, in which assumptions and traditions crumble in their foundations, crack and collapse.

Amsterdam Light Festival 2019 - 2020
Vo0or de 8e keer was er weer het Amsterdam Light Festival in de binnenstad van Amsterdam. Altijd weer leuk om te filmen.
Amsterdam Light Festival - Walk to the Light
The Amsterdam Light Festival is a spectacular holiday-time, one of a kind event. From November to January, close to 40 light-themed art works are erected all across the city, each one utilizing some form of light- from neon sculptures to building projections. Nate from the What's Up Amsterdam podcast joins Gessell on the Illuminade walking tour, where you follow the designated route through the streets with groups of others, stopping for warm drinks and encountering surprises along the way. Gessell also took the Water Colors boat tour which showcases the installments in and around the city's waterways. Both tours are unique and should be experienced individually. Not to be missed!

TRIP WITH US: Amsterdam Light Festival & Christmas Market
I AM TRIPPER’s special fourth episode of TRIP WITH US: Christmas Edition featuring the Light Festival & Christmas Market in Amsterdam the Love City.
In this episode, IAT founders visited the yearly event of Amsterdam Light Festival that is held each year from November to January. They also visited the Christmas Market in the Rembrandt Square and tried out some traditional dutch food delicacies.
Starting point from Amsterdam Central station, we took the LOVERS canal cruise boat, following the amazing canals at night while watching the lights installation of Amsterdam Light Festival. This year theme; The Medium is the Message.
The 7th Edition of Amsterdam Light Festival started on the 29 November 2018 - 20 January 2019. There are 29 artist collaborated for this event, which installation we all can see starting from the New Bridge in Amsterdam and ended in the Droogbak. There are 23 arts installation for the big boats to see and 20 arts installation for smaller boats, whereas 6 of them are only able to be seen by walking routes.
The arts & lights installations involved 10 Dutch artists and 19 international artists. The honor guest from holland this year is Jeroen Henneman (1942) he is known for his art work Staande Tekeningen. For this festival he participated in the lights installation called Two Lamps, which you can also see in our video.
Our favorite lights installation is the A.N.N and the Spider on the Bridge. What's yours?
A.N.N is made by KOROS design showcasing the process of our brain activity. A.N.N stands for Artificial Neural Network; software that, like our brain, receives, interprets, processes and transmits information such as electrical signals. ANNs are usually used for speech recognition, self-driving cars and personalized filters on social media. Apple's SIRI is an example of this.
Our next favorite is Spider On the Bridge; On our video you can see this lights installation, it is the biggest spider you will probably ever see. The monumental installation of the French collective Groupe LAPS consists of no less than eighty spiders, each two meters wide, made of tubes with LED light. The light is programmed so that it looks like the critters are crawling around. Due to these dynamic lighting effects, something arises between a sculpture and a stop-motion animation. It almost seems like we have ended up in a science fiction movie! Woop Woop!
Next stop: The Rembrand Square! very cosy with a warm atmosphere for closing your weekend with the loved ones! You can go ice skating and try the dutch delicacies. We didn't do the skating part cause it was too cold for us, lol! But we did try the Gluhwein, Oliebollen and the yummy Bradwurst/Currywurst. Definately a MUST TRY when you're in town!.
That's a wrap for this episode guys! Let us know what you think and please do tell if you have request what to see or where to visit in our next video, leave us your comment below.
