Trip To Boston Massachusetts With lexmarks567, Via Amtrak!
Originally recorded June 5, 2019.
For my birthday, lexmarks567 and I were talking. I know he's a fan of the railroad and whatnot, and he mentioned Amtrak. I had never been on one before, so the deal was set, we'd take a trip to Boston for the day on Amtrak and that way I could experience all it had to offer.
We had dinner at a nice place in downtown Boston. All in all a good time. Travel time was about 4 hours each way. I was rather surprised it took even that long, as we were pushing 125MPH at times.

Railfanning in Massachusetts, MBTA, Amtrak Heritage Units, Pan Am 9-23-18
Amtrak often operates their great dome car Ocean View during the pre-fall foliage season on the Downeaster, with late September being the last time to catch a ride (or video/picture if you're a railfan). With my schedule finally cleared out from the railroad festivals I've been attending, I decided I would try to capture it before it leaves the Downeaster for the Adirondack.
If you've already watched the video, you may have noticed the dome car is not in this video, despite my best efforts, it just wouldn't turn up.
I did however catch two heritage units, #130 in her brilliant phase II livery (my first time seeing a personal favorite of mine), as well as NPCU #406 in her phase III livery.
Another first catch would be MBTA, which I tried to catch in a variety of locations, including the Merrimack River Bridge in Haverhill, and Boston and Maine stations in Andover and Reading. Also included is a Pan Am slurry train rolling past Steampunk Station and over the Merrimack in Haverhill.
Also if you get a chance, try out Steampunk Station, lovely little cafe with a great view of the tracks just feet away.
Enjoy the video!
A Ride on Amtrak's Acela from New Haven to Boston 9-21-19
Ladies and gentlemen, hold on to your seats and welcome aboard the fastest train in the United States as it travels in its fastest zones. Join me as we ride Amtrak's Acela from New Haven to Boston on the Northeast Corridor. Here's most of the footage on its run from New Haven to Boston, this includes footage in a new state never seen in my videos before, Rhode Island! In addition to Rhode Island, footage of the run in Massachusetts and Connecticut is also shown. The largest cities, which are also the capital cities, of Rhode Island and Massachusetts are also seen in this video. This part of the Northeast Corridor has the fastest zones in which the Acela can travel, where it's allowed to go at speeds of 150 mph in parts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts and we get to experience that in this video. This is a video I was referring to in my last Post National Train Day Update Video. Also featured is royalty-free music.

Commuter Rail in Boston, USA
The MBTA Commuter Rail system is a Regional rail network that shares its tracks with inter-city passenger and freight trains. As of 2007, the system was composed of twelve lines, three of which have branches, and another branch provides access to Gillette Stadium for special events in or near Foxborough. The rail network operates according to a spoke-hub distribution paradigm, with the lines running radially outward from the city of Boston. Eight of the lines converge at South Station, with four of these passing through Back Bay station. The other four converge at North Station. Amtrak uses two of the south-side lines and one of the north-side lines for long-distance intercity service. The Commuter Rail system has used the color purple on train cars and system maps since October 8, 1974, and consequently it is sometimes called the Purple Line.

Boston To Cape cod, Massachusetts
Cape Cod is a geographic cape extending into the Atlantic Ocean from the southeastern corner of mainland Massachusetts, in the northeastern United States. Its historic, maritime character and ample beaches attract heavy tourism during the summer months.
As defined by the Cape Cod Commission's enabling legislation, Cape Cod is conterminous with Barnstable County, Massachusetts. It extends from Provincetown in the northeast to Woods Hole in the southwest and is bordered by Plymouth to the northwest.
Since 1914, most of Cape Cod has been separated from the mainland by the Cape Cod Canal. The canal cuts 7 miles (11 km) roughly across the base of the peninsula, though small portions of the Cape Cod towns of Bourne and Sandwich lie on the mainland side of the canal. Two highway bridges cross the Cape Cod Canal: the Sagamore Bridge and the Bourne Bridge. In addition, the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge carries railway freight and limited passenger services onto the Cape. Cape territory is divided into 15 towns with many villages.

New York to Washington DC - Journey on Amtrak's High Speed Acela Express
Enjoy a few highlights of a journey from New York to Washington DC on board the Acela Express. The route from Boston to Washington DC via New York is Amtrak's North-East Corridor. The high speed Acela Express operates on this line with a highest speed of 150 mph, but it reaches this speed very briefly on two sections only between Boston and New York. On the other hand between New York and Washington, the top speed reached is 130 mph for quite a few long sections.
I boarded the 08:00 am train from New York Penn Station and it reached Washington Union Station at 10:55 am. On the way we halted at Newark Penn Station, Metropark Station, Philadelphia 30th Street Station and Baltimore Penn Station. It was an interesting journey altogether and a few sights can be seen in the video.
While leaving New York itself, we enjoyed a nice parallel action with a PATH (Port Authority Trans Hudson) train. After halting at Newark Penn station you can have a look at how we pass Newark Liberty International Airport station at good speed. At Metropark station I switched on the speedometer app on my phone and captured the acceleration from 0 to 108 mph before doing some rapid braking. We pass Trenton Transit station also at good speed before passing over the Delaware River, where you can see bad luck as another train crosses, blocking the view. Between Philadelphia and Baltimore, there are quite a few scenic rivers, and some of the bridges are quite low over the water. Finally the last part is also great as we slowly enter Washington Union Station, we are parallel to a Washington Red Line Metro train.
The other part of the route from Boston to New York was done the previous day and has already been uploaded by me on YouTube.
