Subscribe to Vesti News
A milestone event for Russia and China has taken place. Last Friday, the two parts of the automobile bridge across the Amur, which connected Russian Blagoveshchensk and Chinese Heihe, were solemnly joined. It took three years to build the bridge and join the two shores. Russia and China built 1,770 feet on each side. For Russia, another bridge is yet another symbol of the country's spatial development which Putin mentioned in his address. For China, it's another way to its northern neighbor.

Russian military moves in to help Amur flood victims
With thousands already affected, flooding in Russia's far-east is expected to reach its peak next week as emergency workers, soldiers and local residents step up efforts to tackle the disaster.
The Amur River burst its banks following heavy rain, submerging over one million square kilometres of land in one of the largest-ever floods in the country's far-east.
Water levels are expected to hit their highest mark next week, with three large regions already affected: Amur Oblast, the Jewish Autonomous Oblast, and the Khabarovsk region.
Around 32,000 people have been left stricken by the disaster, with over half having been relocated by emergency crews. Over 400,000 hectares of farmland have been covered, causing an estimated $60m (€45m) worth of damage. Up to 100,000 people may still need to be evacuated from their homes.
Authorities have dispatched army units to help tackle the crisis. The disaster, caused by heavy downpours in early July, is not expected to start receding until early September.

China-Russia cross-border bridges to be opened by end of year
Although the border between China and Russia stretches for over 4,200 kilometers, the number of border crossings is small. But, by the end of this year, two very important bridges over the Heilongjiang River, known as the Amur River in Russia, will open. Both are being constructed in the Russian Far East and they will increase the number of cross-border goods exchanged to millions of tons. CGTN’s Aljosa Milenkovic was at the construction site of one of these two bridges and has this report.

Where else in Russia will you find a flagpole next to the temple? But the thing is that it was on this hill, on May 9, 1858, that in the presence of Count Muravyov-Amurskiy and Archbishop Innokenty Veniaminov a Russian flag was raised to celebrate the agreement with China that returned to the fold of Russia the 580,000 square miles of Outer Manchuria and Primorye that surround this church.

Russian and Chinese workers connected both sides of a bridge over the Amur river between the cities of Blagoveshensk and Heihe in a ceremony on Friday.
The construction of the bridge began in 2016 from each bank of the river simultaneously and it is planned to be completed by April 2020. According to Russian Minister for the Development of the Far East Alexander Kozlov, “all works are carried out as scheduled” and there is no “reason for failure.”
Russian Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev pointed out that the bridge is “another opportunity for investment in the Far Eastern region of Russia, another opportunity for the development of the country’s economy.”
The bridge over Amur River is a cable bridge with low pillars. The 1,080-metre long road will have two lanes in each direction. The bridge is expected to have an annual transport capacity of 3 million tonnes of cargo and 1.4 million passengers.

Several boreal eco-regions expand into the Amur-Heilong River basin. There are a number of strange discoveries in the area...and something has attracted those who pilot UFOs there.
